A first win in six, a first clean sheet in eight – West Brom turned up at Anfield and failed to read the double Gameweek script. Steven Gerrard’s missed spot-kick compounded an evening of the unexpected, as Ben Foster’s inspired performance frustrated Liverpool and Fantasy managers alike. Here’s the Stock Check on Monday’s events…

On the Up

Ben Foster
A simply outstanding display by the Baggies stopper, capped by a stunning save from Steven Gerrard’s spot-kick. This was a first clean sheet in eight for Foster, a first away from home. With fixtures brightening for Steve Clarke’s side, we may yet see Foster build on tonight’s performance and start to attract Fantasy interest.

Gareth McAuley
The opening goal from McAuley, his second strike of the season, underlined his credentials as the luxury item in the West Brom defence – a proposition that has tempted few given their poor record of late. Like Foster, however, tonight’s returns may well earn him attention, particularly with the schedule presenting further opportunities for shut-outs in the coming weeks.

Romelu Lukaku
The big Belgian started the game on the bench as Steve Clarke bolstered his midfield with the return of Youssouff Mulumbu. Shane Long kept his start, then, but was overshadowed by the cameo role played by Lukaku late on. An early warning saw the Chelsea loanee threaten the goal, breaking from inside his own half, only for him to seal the victory with a superb first touch and calm finish just minutes later.

Going Down

Steven Gerrard
It’s harsh on Gerrard given Foster’s outstanding save, both from his second half effort and his penalty. Having said that, such is the competition for places in our midfields, failure to register points at home to Swansea on Sunday will surely see Gerrard suffer significant sales ahead of the Gameweek 27 blank, as the clamour for Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott and Juan Mata continues to build .

Luis Suarez
Brendan Rodgers decided against risking Daniel Sturridge, assuring us that “he should be okay” for Sunday’s meeting with Swansea. Suarez shifted back to a central attacking role, then, only to put on one of his least effective performances in memory. While Suarez won a rather dubious spot-kick, he contributed little else as the West Brom defence coped admirably with his movement and close control; an eighth booking of the season only compounded the frustration for Suarez’s owners.

The Liverpool Defence
They had look such a strong proposition ahead of home clashes with West Brom and Swansea and yet, following tonight’s setback, Brendan Rodgers’ back four have now conceded six goals in their last three. With a confident Swansea at Anfield on Sunday, suddenly our expectation of returns from the likes of Glen Johnson have taken a dent.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

New Team going forward. LOVING IT!

    http://oi49.tinypic.com/287dl4p.jpg

I was ultimately tossing up between Rooney and Aguero to get in. Decided for Rooney with the united fixtures are amazing till the end of the season and basically analyzing how rooney is basically in a free role.

Sure there is a risk of rotation but you get that with aguero as well. Evans for 5.6 with his BP potential as a CDF and Goal threat is just a bargain too.

Ill get wilson next gw for STAM 😀

I would go with the alternative one with Hazard...

Hazard has rediscovered his form from the beginning of the season and if you havent got RVP, I dont think it is worth to get him now till end of season...

Rooney's points to price ratio should be better than RVP's till the end of the season... and better to cover your RVP less risk in midfield where most of the goals are coming from anyway for all teams (except maybe the Manchester teams)...

First thing I thought but that hasn't really worked either. Seems even ropier defence wise. Plus, Kolarov doesn't seem to have impressed Mancini at all. Milner has, I guess, done a 'job's but is such a limited player.

I think it's gonna be a big change. Not something that's been done in that form before.

To be fair, when Kolarov came in, he got a lot of space on the Left Flank. Mancini would have noted that. Soton played 4-2-3-1, something which almost every team's playing now. And 3-5-2 does give them space to dominate in the space between the wingers and the full backs. Maybe I'm just hoping. But who knows...

I'm sure the formation change at least momentarily opened up some new possibilities as Southampton hadn't changed their shape. But looking at Kolarov over the season, he simply hasn't looked the right man to play there regularly, he's no zabaleta let's put it that way, going forward or back. And city would have finished the defeat with 3-5-2, that's unlikely to encourage Mancini given how it worked out.

If city had better wingbacks than Kolarov and Milner maybe we'd be onto something, but their only alternative is a completely frozen out Sinclair who can't defend. You could say it might help control the middle though with Yaya and CM behind Silva CAM. I do wonder why he hasn't tried 4-2-3-1 with Silva CAM

I don't think Manicni likes it too much. I think he prefers to go with 2 strikers every game. I was also thinking of this..

            Hart

            Nastasic--Kompany--Lescott/Kolo
            Zabaleta-- Yaya -- Javi Garcia--Clichy

Can any1 tell me more abt this blank GW29 and which teams won't play in it?
Had 4 DGW players and i need to get rid of Sturridge in addition to Guthrie to field a good starting 11
I'm thinking abt Sturridge and Guthrie--->Giroud and Sissoko. It'll give me a benching problem during week 28 but i still need to know which players wont be available for week 29.

Bunn and lambert benched (mata, fellaini, bego in started 11)
Brought in Gerrard for bale (planned 1 week deal as bale home form had been ordinary)
10 green arrows on the trot brought to a thundering halt.

Fellaini in, and out in GW29 doesn't sound too good to me. You already have Sissoko, won't double up on Newcastle so fast.. Lambert's a good pick, just throwing some options in.

Why are people making plans for transfers? the next gameweek is 2 weeks away practically and there's other factors that might come into play (Fa cup + Champions league injuries/suspensions)

If you're making your transfers now you are being silly.

    God Bless.

As I've said before, it depends on the cash available and team value. If you know you want rid of a player and you strongly desire another, there's no point waiting until you can not afford them with 1FT.

There's nothing worse than missing out on a player by £0.1......

    Bunn; Cesar
    Fabio; Davies; Clichy; Demel; Harte
    Guthrie; Michu; Mata; Sissoko; Walcott
    RVP Suarez; Sturridge (C)

Captained Sturridge (epic fail), now I’m trying to field 11 players for GW26:

    a) Suarez to Anichebe then -4 hit for for Guthrie to Bale
    b) Sturridge to Lambert then -4 hits for Davies to J.Evans
    c) Fabio to Turner-4 hits for Suarez to Aguero
    d) Davies to Evra, -4 hit for Suarez to Giroud
    e) Any other suggestions?

    Here's my take on yesterday's game -

People are daft to captain a Liverpool player this gameweek. Especially when they’ve never beaten a top 10 side this season and in such a charitable mood as tonight. On the other hand, Michu was a no-brainer since he loves to play against Qpr and was due a big haul.

I never quite understood everyone taking hits to get Liverpool players. This was the week to get established FPL players like McAuley and RVP. Just to clarify, I’m not against taking hits. But if you’re taking them, might as well to get the highest scorers for the gameweek.

It was really mad to bench Foster. As a rule, one should never bench their keeper against Liverpool. They’ve missed 6 out of their last 7 penalties.

Liverpool players. Jose Enrique deserves to be one of the very first members on the team sheet for Spain. I really think Harry Redknapp should use Cisse to convince Carragher to come to Loftus Road. He’s such a good leader at the back and scores a few goals when he wants too. Only if Real Madrid had a world-class goal keeper like Reina, they could have challenged for the La Liga title.

My rival (the smelly one) had Glen Johnson as captain, I drafted in Jordan Henderson as he was the only doubler I could afford.
His texted schadenfreude when my gladiator was substituted in the 59th minute was only surpassed fifteen minutes later with a text of my very own which simply read,
    "McCAUUUULLLLYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!"

There are catastrophic events and then there was last night. I was easily ahead in my cup match with Enrique, Gerrard (C) and Sturridge to play, my opponent with a loads of blanks, no points on his bench and a solitary WBA player. That player turns out to be McAuley. Now I have a 6 point deficit to make up vs Swansea but after last nights attempts god knows what will happen.

PS. Im was also grateful he left Foster on his bench
