This season I’ve taken pride in my powers of recovery. The ability to bounce back from a Gameweek of misery with a plucky display seven days later. The upper lip has remained stiff on my face of adversity.

Right now, it’s quivering with my chin scraping the floorboards of my two-up, two-down grief pit.

Motivated by the need for differentials to help claw back a mini-league deficit, I chose to cuddle up to Dimitar Berbatov and Fernando Torres, despite knowing all too well that the allure of Robin Van Persie and Carlos Tevez was beautifully placed to return bigger profits.

Their Scout Pick selection spelled it out to me – bringing them in made perfect sense. But in the context of my mini-league, there was another perspective; spending points to match my rivals’ team took the shine off the obvious route to success.

By four o’clock the true horror of that decision was apparent. Once again I paid the price for being clever – for ignoring the big picture, for turning my back on the bleedin’ obvious.

This pain is not all self-inflicted this time – I can at least proportion some blame to good old-fashioned bad luck.

With Rafael Van der Vaart as captain, my returns could have been handsome. If only he’d converted his second spot-kick, or indeed had Mark Clattenburg handed Spurs a third. While Van der Vaart clogged his penalty re-take to punish my points tally, Tevez, sporting the armband from my rivals, gorged on a brace of spot-kicks to earn a hat-trick. Agony – absolute agony.

Adding further insult, and extinguishing any hopes of a second-half revival, Van der Vaart failed to appear for the second-half. A calf injury apparently. He couldn’t have been hurting as much as me. Van der Vaart might be fit for Gameweek 27 – I’m not sure I will be.

So there you have it – enjoy Match of the Day. There were lots of goals apparently.

As for me, I’ll give Arsene a call. Arsene and me. In the pub, in the corner. I’m drowning it all in the local brew; he’s got his large glass of red. Don’t you dare tell us to cheer up.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

and as an extra bit of advice, if you maximise the price change window you can sort on the number of transfers in... helps to give an idea of the very popular targets who may rise twice.

Today's figures are skewed by players transfered in before 11.30 for todady's games but if you are playing the money game it's worth watching each day.

Im planning to use my wc this gw but I have no idea who to get.

Arsenal, Birminghamm, WBA and Tottenham have good fixtures but their fixtures suck after the GW.

What should I do and what players are must haves. I'm so confused.

It's an unknown factor but Arsenal Spurs may be on in GW 28 unless Arsenal draw in the cup against Orient. So you could assume it's on and risk needing a 4 point hit otherwise to make things easier.

So the only way that match is off is if aresenal don't beat orient, or lose? if thats the case i would assume its very likely on then. that would solve a lot of problems for dgw's.

But, they haven't said that the match is pencilled in for then yet. It would be just after the Carling Cup Final so the FA Cup would HAVE to be played then, but a league game is more flexible.

Won't know until into GW 27 I think for sure.

Normally I do some notes on Match of the Day, but tonight I've decided against it, for fear of my fingers ending up like Rafael's.

What an extraordinary day's football. United were awful, those 3 points would have been vital with Arsenal slipping up. Still a lot of tough games to go, and a win at Molineux today would have eased the pressure. If Rio is missing against City I'll watch from behind the couch.

FPL wise, I got 89 points (although they have Kolarov down for 2 assists, that's not right, is it?). A good day, moved into the top 40,000 but I would have broken the 100 mark had I captained Tevez ahead of VDV (raging about the penalty controversy).

Getting rid of VDV entirely depends what you paid for him.

If (like me) you've had him for a long time, it would be far to costly to ditch him for a couple of games just to buy him back for 0.5M more.

    BBC's Match Facts

    Head-to-head

    • Liverpool have failed to score on five of their last six Premier League visits to Stamford Bridge. Their only win and goal at Chelsea since 2004 was 1-0 in October 2008 when Jose Bosingwa scored an own goal.

    • It is nine hours and 57 minutes since a Liverpool player last scored in the league at Chelsea - Bruno Cheyrou netting the only goal of the match in January 2004.

    • Liverpool and Chelsea have met 27 times in various competitions since October 2004. Chelsea have won 12 of those games, and Liverpool eight.

    Chelsea

    • Chelsea have won their last three league matches, their best form since beginning the season with five consecutive victories.

    • They have won their four league matches at Stamford Bridge against fellow Big Four opposition without conceding a goal.

    • Didier Drogba has scored five goals in his last eight matches against Liverpool in all competitions.

    • Fernando Torres scored 81 goals in 142 appearances for Liverpool.

    • Nicolas Anelka scored five goals in 22 league and cup games on loan at Liverpool in the 2001-02 season.

    Liverpool

    • Liverpool have won three consecutive league matches and kept a clean sheet in each.

    • They have 10 points from five league matches under Kenny Dalglish - only Manchester United can match that form.

    • Dalglish was player-manager when he scored the only goal for Liverpool in their 1-0 victory at Stamford Bridge on the final day of the season in 1985-86 to win the league title.

    • Raul Meireles has scored three goals in the club's last four league matches.

    • Joe Cole played 280 games in seven years at Chelsea, scoring 39 goals, while Glen Johnson made 72 appearances for the west London club between 2003 and 2006.

January 2004 since we last scored at Stamford Bridge? My word, that's terrible. Chelsea do have their weakest defence now since 04 though, but still those figures are not boding well. 🙁

      VDV?

Look at the best case scenario for his games over the next 3 GWs and see if the price drop is worth getting someone with 3 or 4 better games.
