This season I’ve taken pride in my powers of recovery. The ability to bounce back from a Gameweek of misery with a plucky display seven days later. The upper lip has remained stiff on my face of adversity.

Right now, it’s quivering with my chin scraping the floorboards of my two-up, two-down grief pit.

Motivated by the need for differentials to help claw back a mini-league deficit, I chose to cuddle up to Dimitar Berbatov and Fernando Torres, despite knowing all too well that the allure of Robin Van Persie and Carlos Tevez was beautifully placed to return bigger profits.

Their Scout Pick selection spelled it out to me – bringing them in made perfect sense. But in the context of my mini-league, there was another perspective; spending points to match my rivals’ team took the shine off the obvious route to success.

By four o’clock the true horror of that decision was apparent. Once again I paid the price for being clever – for ignoring the big picture, for turning my back on the bleedin’ obvious.

This pain is not all self-inflicted this time – I can at least proportion some blame to good old-fashioned bad luck.

With Rafael Van der Vaart as captain, my returns could have been handsome. If only he’d converted his second spot-kick, or indeed had Mark Clattenburg handed Spurs a third. While Van der Vaart clogged his penalty re-take to punish my points tally, Tevez, sporting the armband from my rivals, gorged on a brace of spot-kicks to earn a hat-trick. Agony – absolute agony.

Adding further insult, and extinguishing any hopes of a second-half revival, Van der Vaart failed to appear for the second-half. A calf injury apparently. He couldn’t have been hurting as much as me. Van der Vaart might be fit for Gameweek 27 – I’m not sure I will be.

So there you have it – enjoy Match of the Day. There were lots of goals apparently.

As for me, I’ll give Arsene a call. Arsene and me. In the pub, in the corner. I’m drowning it all in the local brew; he’s got his large glass of red. Don’t you dare tell us to cheer up.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'm going to have a Berbatov-shaped hole in my forward line soon, Bent or Saha might not be the worst ideas. I'll be looking at Torres later on in the season, Chelsea could have a couple of DGWs.

Post pub blathering it may be, but Jeezas 4-0 down at half time, what a bloody comeback.
I cannot believe Capello has done the cowardly thing yet again in not selecting Joey Barton - by far and away the best performing English midfielder this season.

Haha your bitter lemony tears are sweet to me. Take it on the chin, you'd thought you had it won at half time and didn't show up for the second half. Add to that Diaby is a big stropping tart who cost you the win, you should be more pissed off with him than the ref.

pls i recognise a good player or good match when I see one. Like when West Brom beat us at the Emirates. Wingie, Brunt, etc played extremely well and deserved the win. Or even Newcastle at the Emirates. Good tactics and a superb header from Carroll.

This game however was nothing but a farce. A nicely wrapped gift with a red bow from the ref. If was shocking decisions after another. A disgrace.

Barton should have been off for the challenge on Diaby. I don't want him anywhere near the England team.

If you'd said Nolan on the other hand I'd agree, 10 goals from midfield so far this season is superb. But unfortunately for him England already have three quality attacking midfielders in Gerrard, Wilshere and Lampard so they've no need for another midfielder like that.

Tidal - Barton's tackle wasn't even close to being a foul! It was an excellent, full-blooded tackle and his feet were as close to the ground as physically possible.

Nolan shouldn't be anywhere near the England squad, he simply isn't good enough. Barton on the other hand, is, and always has been, a very able footballer and should definitely be given another chance in the England squad.

Attila - to be honest, I'm not sure what all the Gooners are up in arms about. The first penalty was a stonewaller. Koscielny's tackle was absolutely absurd and he didn't get close to the ball. The second was a little iffy, but Rosicky definitely shoved Williamson in the back. I suppose Nolan could have been sent off, but the Best onside goal was much clear cut than either of those two decisions. He wasn't even close to being offside...

He won't respond, and notably hasn't since I posted that clip (not to be too Dbronaldo about it).
The majority of Arsenal fans are sound enough, but some are infected by the Wengeritis that makes them believe they always get a raw deal and that the opposition are dirty fouling thugs. Nonsense. They conveniently ignore the fact that Diaby reacted by raising his hands not once but twice, and got sent off whilst Barton did not react at all.
Yes the Sczezzers bit was iffy, not to excuse it but he was being a little ballbag by not returning the ball. I actually think that common sense was the winner in that scenario, and had the roles been reversed I would still have been happy if Harper got booked for that behaviour.
End result is that we took four goals on the chin and reacted like fighters, they took four goals and acted like jessies.

Oh to have been in the stadium when Tiote unleashed that rocket to draw level... It was an unbelievable goal. Mad tekkers with his left foot...

Still, best left footed strike of the day goes to none other than Aleksandar Kolarov. He has an absolute hammer of a left boot! One day one of those shots will thunder in, and it will be absolutely spectacular.

And did you see Szczesny's tweet apologising to the people who transferred him in on fantasy?! It was great form

Chances of Ancelotti playing a 3-5-2? The diamond didnt work with Lampard last time and a 4-3-3 wont suit Torres.

So I was bored reading the trivia about The Matrix on imdb and saw this.

Ewan McGregor was offered, but turned down, the part of Neo to work on Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999). Leonardo DiCaprio was also considered for the role of Neo.

I know it's easy to say after you've already seen the film, but McGregor as Neo? That would have been rubbish. Di Caprio wouldn't have been much better!

Yeah that's what I mean. It's wierd because you've already seen another actor do the job well and maybe even liked/loved the film.

Out of all the people mentioned on imdb I can only really imagine Keanu doing it, all the others as Neo seem weird

I really liked 2 and 3 although some parts of the story is a bit rubbish. Some things are just unexplained and some things are explained too easily. I'm a big fan of the whole trilogy though.

As for Star Wars, I thought 1+2 were a bit terrible, but I really liked the third.

Inception was good but the story seemed too simple and there wasn't enough twists or depth for me. Either that or I completely misunderstood it and missed the whole concept.

Was still a great film though.

Inbetweeners is juvenile shite, that's why it's so good.

The Wachowski Brothers approached Warner with the idea of the Matrix and Warner balked at the budget they had submitted. Over eighty million dollars. Warner instead agreed to give them ten million. The Wachowski Brothers took the money and filmed the first ten minutes of the movie (the opening scene with Carrie-Anne Moss) using the entire ten million. They then showed the executives at Warner the opening scene, and Warner was so impressed, they green lighted the entire asking budget.

Warner might have been a bit pissed had they not liked the first 10 minutes

Gooners, please stop blaming the ref. When you're 4-0 up after 20 minutes to a newly promoted side you should have enough sense to hold onto it. In that position, you shouldn't have to rely on refereeing decisons. Arsenal blew it and have no one to blame but themselves.

My dad came up with this gem earlier today:

"The reaction of the Liverpool fans and pundits to Torres leaving is one of the most pathetic things I've ever seen."

I think he was mainly talking about Thompson to be honest. That man has spouted some absolute horseshit over the past few days.

My personal favourite was when he was talking about Torres' record, in terms of trophies won, not being very good at all, and basically criticising him for that. Ever considered that that may be because he was stuck at Anfield for four years winning f*ck all along with a bunch of no hopers, Phil?

              ha! PENGUIN!

I remember that game well... We were absolutely dreadful, then Kalou popped up with an innocuous cross in the last minute and Riise, under no pressure from anyone, buried it past Reina. Daylight robbery.

Okay, just watched the goal and perhaps the cross wasn't so innocuous, and Riise was under a bit of pressure......

Bit still, we were useless that day! Didn't deserve anything.

I'm a Gunners fan, and great teams close out games, 10 men or not......personally I had a sense of dread when Djourou went out, Koscielny is reckless and needs to go.....looking forward to a Djourou/Vermaelen pairing.

As I've cooled down after a night's rest (china here) and those atrocious decisions by the center have come to pass (and Man U got b*tched to bring a slight rainbow to my sky), I have to reflect back to Denilson's comments about Cesc not being a good captain...and concede that it's very true i'm afraid. As my Gunner brother put it yesterday as well, "we need a man to wear the armband".

It's pretty clear to me that Cesc isn't a natural leader. His immediate response to any adversity is giving the referee a hard time...

Exceptional player, the best in the league IMO, but not a leader.

It's strange how he started his career as a winger and these days he's absolutely hopeless out there.

Too easy to work him out - don't give him space to cross, don't commit yourself cos he hasn't got the pace to skin you. He can cross a ball very well, but it's easy to stop him.
