This season I’ve taken pride in my powers of recovery. The ability to bounce back from a Gameweek of misery with a plucky display seven days later. The upper lip has remained stiff on my face of adversity.

Right now, it’s quivering with my chin scraping the floorboards of my two-up, two-down grief pit.

Motivated by the need for differentials to help claw back a mini-league deficit, I chose to cuddle up to Dimitar Berbatov and Fernando Torres, despite knowing all too well that the allure of Robin Van Persie and Carlos Tevez was beautifully placed to return bigger profits.

Their Scout Pick selection spelled it out to me – bringing them in made perfect sense. But in the context of my mini-league, there was another perspective; spending points to match my rivals’ team took the shine off the obvious route to success.

By four o’clock the true horror of that decision was apparent. Once again I paid the price for being clever – for ignoring the big picture, for turning my back on the bleedin’ obvious.

This pain is not all self-inflicted this time – I can at least proportion some blame to good old-fashioned bad luck.

With Rafael Van der Vaart as captain, my returns could have been handsome. If only he’d converted his second spot-kick, or indeed had Mark Clattenburg handed Spurs a third. While Van der Vaart clogged his penalty re-take to punish my points tally, Tevez, sporting the armband from my rivals, gorged on a brace of spot-kicks to earn a hat-trick. Agony – absolute agony.

Adding further insult, and extinguishing any hopes of a second-half revival, Van der Vaart failed to appear for the second-half. A calf injury apparently. He couldn’t have been hurting as much as me. Van der Vaart might be fit for Gameweek 27 – I’m not sure I will be.

So there you have it – enjoy Match of the Day. There were lots of goals apparently.

As for me, I’ll give Arsene a call. Arsene and me. In the pub, in the corner. I’m drowning it all in the local brew; he’s got his large glass of red. Don’t you dare tell us to cheer up.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Their gameplan since Mourinho has been 1 central striker with 2 playing either side (other than the failed Scolari 4-4-2 / diamond) - I'd be surprised if they move away from that.

I can see a 4-4-3 with Torres ahead of Drogba on the right and Malouda on the left.

It's written in the stars (I think) for Chelsea to wallop Liverpool. Following on from 2 four goal performances and with the boost that yesterdays results will have given them.
            5-1 Chelsea (3 Drogba 2 Torres)

After yesterday he must play both, Wenger got away with it yesterday because United turned a bad result into a good one for him.

The title should be over for another year but now it is still on, do you see him gambling and shooting himself in the foot?

City will beat UTD so two wins in in this double brings their lead to next to nothing.

You have almost the same team as me. I wouldn"t sell Rafael. Leave the Kolarov trade until after next week as they have Man U anyway, by which time it will be clearer who is injured.

Getting rid of Van der Vaart for Barton is madness, unless of course you think Newcastle will be gifted two penos a week.

Hart and Foster is too much to spend on GKs. Keep Hart and buy a real cheapo as bench fodder or sell Hart for someone that rotates well with Foster.

DJ to Saha is a good trade. One I am cursing myself I didn't do this week despite having it written in the Notes section of my FPL Homepage.:-(

    Current team:

    Szczesny, Begovic
    Rafael, Coleman, Kolarov, Simpson, Kelly
    Fabs, Nani, VDV, Furguson, Adam
    Tevez, Berb, RVP

I have 2 free transfers and am thinking:
gw27 - Berb -> Odem (for the dgw)
    gw28 - Odem - R Keane & Ferguson -> Cahill
Then Cahill to A Young after that.

Morning.... Thought 78 was pretty good until I just looked at scout league.. Still managed to drop. Looks like most of top 10 all scored 90 to 100... 2 points from defense doesn't help much i suppose

I was planning for weeks to get rid on my wildcard because I wanted to keep Vidic instead, but last week I kind of warmed to the idea of keeping him.

Since my rival has Hart I figured I'd keep him as Man City cover as Hart is too much money for a GK.

Needless to say, Kolarov's staying in my wildcard team now and Vidic will be downgraded to Rafael.

    Hi all,

It's time for a good idea bad idea vote. Got burnt this week not having Tevez. Here's my team:

    Foster
    Vidic, Kelly, R Johnson
    VDV, Adam, Nani, Fabs, Walcott
    RVP (C), DJ Campbell
    Subs: Begovic, Hangeland, Coleman, Berbatov

What do people think of my current transfer plan, 2 frees this week...

    GW27 Hangelaand, VDV->Huth, Barton
    GW28 Fabs, Campbell->Cahill, Tevez

Or would something else involving the likes of Odemwinge, Walker. I may just be chasing points

Barton's double with VDV uncertain seemed sensible and solves 1 dilemma of currently 5 missing players from GW28, and I obviously should have done the Huth transfer last week, but with him getting forward and up against 2 leaky defences in the DGW I think he'll do well.

    Any help most gratefully received

Barton on set-pieces and pens (though I thought both of his pens were pretty weak!) as well makes Barton a decent option

    hi all,

    my first post here

any advice to improve my team???

    begovic/gordon

    rafael/bosingwa/djourou/skrtel/kolarov
    nani/fabregas/barton/van der vaart/walcott
    odemwingie/tevez/robbie keane

    3.5 in the bank

i'd like basically to improve forward line.
    i'm thinking about this:

out skrtel -> in kelly. will kelly be a starter when carragher comes back???
out odemwingie -> in suarez/van persie

if djourou is injured, who would be a good/cheap choice???

Tough one, Kenny may keep his 5-3-2 and have Agger, Carra, Skrtel at the back with Kelly and G. Johnson wingbacks.

I think Tevez and RVP are pretty essential over the next few GWs at least. Don't get rid of Odemwinge this week though, tasy double

Don't take Odem out as he has 2 double GW ahead. Take out Keane and get a better striker - RVP, Bent depending on how much cash you have. I'd take out Fabs as I think you can better value but just my 2 cents.

Yeah, I'm wondering whether Walcott is better value.

Fabs seems to be in the 2-6 pt range this season and that's pretty awful returns for an £11.8m outlay.

With RVP now I can't see Fabs getting double digit games this season.

would have to be bentley, he's pretty much on every set piece and biggest attacking threat for birmingham. Garnders too inconsistent and fergusons only going to get you bonus points. Birmingham defenders is a better bet for the double gameweek imo.

But he hadn't wasted any time, he'd just picked the ball out of the net... who's to ay he wouldn't have thrown the ball straight to an Arenal player to take the kick off.

The 2 Newcastle players asked for the ball with a few metres inbetween. All he had to do was give it to them rather than trying to hide it from them.

He was given no chance to give it to an arsenal player. Especially as Nolan and Barton were aggressively hunting him down!

Nani or Berbatov. Just because United are so good at home. Nani has the backfall of the extra point for a clean sheet if that tips the scales for you. 🙂
