A second-half revival at Anfield finds Liverpool turning the tables on Tottenham, who lose their grip on a thrilling encounter, despite two Jan Vertonghen strikes. Both Luis Suarez and Gareth Bale fetch returns again, while in the North East, Newcastle leave it late but grab the points from Stoke via a Papiss Cisse goal. Here’s the Stock Check on Sunday’s action…

On the Up

Luis Suarez
With Daniel Sturridge back in the lineup, we wondered if the Uruguayan’s contribution would be reduced somewhat – today’s goal and assist indicates that Suarez’s relentless form is set to continue. He has now struck five goals in three assists in his last three league outings and bonus points from today’s game would give him three consecutive double figure hauls.

Stewart Downing
Back-to-back goals for the former Middlesbrough man means that he has now returned a goal or assist in the last three Gameweeks. Significantly, he has started the last 14 league matches and with Joe Allen set to undergo a shoulder operation in the coming weeks, it could now be that Brendan Rodgers settles on today’s 4-4-2 formation, with Downing continuing as a fixture. His 5.7 price tag is beginning to look appealing for those seeking a low-to-mid price differential.

Steven Gerrard
Those holding the Liverpool skipper earned further goal returns as Gerrard converted from the spot once again. He has now scored four goals in his last seven starts, bizarrely, alternating a blank and a goal over the course of those seven matches. While today’s strike keeps him simmering, Gerrard’s owners will perhaps be concerned at his recent reliance of penalties as a result of a deeper midfield role.

Jose Enrique
Once again the Spaniard got the upper hand on team-mate Glen Johnson by providing the assist for Suarez’s opening goal – his sixth of the campaign. That’s three assists and a goal in the last five for Enrique, while Johnson has lagged behind with just a single assist in the same spell. While Johnson goes on showing greater attacking threat, it’s the Spaniard who is providing the reliable end product, right now. Johnson needs to start delivering on his potential to justify our faith and the more expensive price tag.

Jan Vertonghen
In a weekend when both Christian Benteke and Romelu Lukaku delivered, Tottenham’s own Belgian import stepped up with an unlikely double to, at one point, turn the Anfield encounter in Spurs’ favour. Vertonghen has been in strong form alongside Michael Dawson in recent weeks but has still sat out three of the last ten league games. It’s that lack of security, plus the cut-price appeal of Dawson, that has tempered any investment in the classy defender, despite his undoubted ability to contribute attacking returns.

Gareth Bale
While Bale failed to score for a sixth successive league match, his owners will take some consolation from two assists as the Welshman’s delivery allowed Vertonghen to covert his goals. The bandwagaon rolls on.

Papiss Cisse
The Senegal striker shrugged off a midweek illness to start against the Potters and tuck home an at the death winner to send St James’ Park into raptures. Cisse continues to show a spark of form, having now scored five goals in his last 11 league starts. His Fantasy stock is, however, dented somewhat by the continued success of Newcastle’s mid-price midfield assets.

Yohan Cabaye & Moussa Sissoko
The two Frenchman go on delivering from the Magpies midfield. Priced almost identically after Sissoko’s recent dramatic climb in ownership, the pair have provided seven goals and three assists between them since Gameweek 23 and the start of the Newcastle revival. Sissoko remains the favoured option: he has now scored or assisted in five of his six starts for Alan Pardew and with short-term fixtures strong and the run-in also favourable, his claim for a place in our five man midfield goes on gathering pace.

Going Down

Daniel Sturridge
Re-installed in the Liverpool lineup after his recent thigh injury, Sturridge played up with Suarez in a conventional looking 4-4-2 but, when his owners needed him to stand up to the charge of the Uruguayan, Sturridge fell short. Suarez looks on course for a double figure haul, while Sturridge drew his first blank in a Liverpool shirt in the league and was eventually replaced late on. With goal threat on show today, there won’t be alarm bells ringing just yet, but Suarez’s showing offered little encouragement to those who presumed that Sturridge presence would see the balance of power shift a little.

Pepe Reina
An unexpected absentee from the Liverpool team-sheet, the calf injury that kept him out was untimely for those banking on his presence in a Gameweek that found many Fantasy managers scratching around for numbers. Post-match comments indicate that Reina should be fit to return to contention for the trip to Southampton next weekend, however.

Davide Santon
The Santon versus Mathieu Debuchy debate rumbles on in Fantasy quarters but meanwhile, there are signs that Alan Pardew is beginning to look at his options at left-back, with Santon’s defensive work coming under scrutiny. While he has impressed going forward, today Pardew hauled him off and replaced him with a natural left-footer in Massadio Haïdara on 73 minutes. It would hint that Santon’s security of start could yet come under threat over Newcastle’s remaining matches. Perhaps the most important consideration, however, is that Newcastle have now gone seven without a clean sheet.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Is RVP a must have for the rest of the season? Or should I just get Rooney

Im looking to sell Sturridge but getting RVP would mean also selling Theo or Mata and getting a cheap midfielder. So would you do:

A: Sturridge > Rooney (have enough cash to do that)
    B: Sturridge + Mata/Walcott > RVP and cheap midfielder

I don't think he can be a 'must have'... suarez has almost the same points and is considerably cheaper so if anyone is a must have, it'd be him.

When his DGW is announced, though, I expect he will be the stand out captain of the week by some considerable distance.

can't belive that people dont realize that RVP overpreforming and that Rooney is a way better valute for money

RVP has been poor in europe (just like i expected cause he is average player and not ready for big scene,he can do welll in prem league but when it comes international football and europe he is nothing but a rubbish) on the other hand Rooney is a UTD key player and absoulute class and legend

if some of you checking stats Rooney is way better than RVP as well

RVP had a good season and now it's time to switch at Rooney and i am looking forward to that 🙂

      Your logic isn't logical.

Even if you're right that he's not good in europe, how is that relevant to FPL?

And as for 'RVP had a good season'

He was the standout player for the second half of 2010-2011, ALL of 2011-2012 and ALL of 2012-2013 so far.

      That is pretty consistent.

Note: I don't even own him right now and might not buy him, I just think your argument is ridiculous 😀

    3 red arrows = rut!

    Ddg (bunn)
    baines clark cueller (davies harte)
    michu bale wally sissoko (maloney)
    rvp sturridge benteke

    have 1FT and 3.3m.

A: sissoko >> mata (as per my initial plan)
    B: cueller + sturridge >> wilson + suarez (-4)
C: cueller >> wilson (not sure when cueller will return but sland have been conceeding a lot)
    D: save FT

    Thanks!

    A) save changes till know about DGWs

Or make a change: QPR, ARS, LIV, WIG, CHE (ish) have good fixtures, and MCI, MUN, SWANS, TOTT have bad fixtures Atm...

    B) sissoko to hazard/gerrard/cazorla?
    C) Michu to hazard/gerrard/Walcott
    D) puncheon to lampard?
    E) shorey to ANYONE 🙂

It appears a no brained but would give me a selection headache with front 8 all decent, and would leave me with a rather weak defence, plus I am concerned with lampard potential and Chelsea fixtures.... Think hazard is the man to get.....

Now we are dealing in unknowns so should delay decisions until the last possible moment that information can become available.

So for me I will be saving my free transfer this week with the hope that some more DGW info will become available next week.

Decent plan for the next few weeks? Bank 2.3m, 1 freebie, WC still in play (plan to use for the later DGWs when they get announced)....

GW30: Davies -> Wilson (WBA) - leaves just enough in the bank for....
GW31: Sissoko (mcy) -> Santi (REA)
    GW32: Save
GW33: Get 2 EVE players in for the DGW
    GW34: Possibly WC

    Szczesny, (Bunn)

Probably agree. Now he has sorted out his finishing he is a monster. his first touch is SO good that yesterday when he took a heavy touch from a very fast sturridge past I was left in utter shock. He usually has the ability to take the ball to his feet like one of those velcro tennis ball thingies you play on the beach.

Several DGWs will be announced causing frenzied panics on these boards.

People's teams will become a mess as they jump from one DGW to the next

"OH NO I ALREADY MADE MY TRANSFERS" will echo through the pages.

12 points hits will be the norm...

    Hi guys!

Gotta bench one player this week that probably will come back to haunt me 🙂

Which is it Michu or Sissoko?

    Bego
    Dawson Zab Turner
    Mata Bale Sissoko/Michu Theo
    Benteke Rvp Suarez

    Andersen ? Davies Pearce

      Michu at home

      I'd bench Sissoko

In fact doing the same, starting Lambo instead of him

Cheers guys. Sorry it took so long to answer. Had to go away for a bit.

I see your point but Sisso has Wigan... Although Michu reaked havoc last time roung against Ars. Hmm... Plenty of time still to decide. Thanks again.

Didnt do rvp => suarez for gw28, nor did I for gw29.
Should I now stick with my decision or maybe do michu + sturridge => maloney + suarez (-4)?

I'm in the same boat, seriously considering the same moves

I can't take much more Suarez pain.

I just now that when I get him in, it's "the blank time" + Michu brace....plan was to save transfer this week, but Suarez is sucking life out of my team 🙁

I feel your pain, the two guys ahead of me in my mini-league both have him and its killing me. I know I should stick with Sturridge to "catch up" but I feel I'd be better off covering the Suarez danger and catching up elsewhere.
