Roberto Mancini is sacked by City after the weekend FA Cup final defeat by Wigan. Jack Wilshere requires “minor surgery” on his ankle, Lukas Fabianski is available for the Gunners home clash with the Latics this evening, reports suggest Eden Hazard is struggling with a hamstring problem ahead of Chelsea’s Europa League final against Benfica, while Daniel Sturridge lauds the recent displays of Philippe Coutinho after Liverpool’s thrashing of Fulham:

It turns out the rumours were true, then. With two games left of the season, City confirmed the sacking of Roberto Mancini late last night after Saturday’s Wembley loss to Wigan leaves the club without silverware for the campaign. With a trip to Reading and home clash against Norwich still on their agenda, City’s upcoming pair of fixtures certainly offers plenty opportunity for Fantasy returns – while many had expected Mancini to make several changes for this evening’s game at the Madejski, it’s now down to assistant boss Bryan Kidd to select the XI for tonight and Sunday’s visit of the Canaries.

Indeed, with the club requiring just one point over the remaining games to clinch second spot behind United, the theory was that Mancini would hand many of his fringe players a chance to impress – now, Kidd may decide to use the platform to impress the club’s owners and roll out the big guns as he looks to save his own job. With City, United and Chelsea all set for a change of manager in the following campaign, then, we’re set for a fascinating summer of transfer activity as the squads reinvest. While some Fantasy managers may look upon the changes with a little trepidation, there’s no doubt the constant rotation worries that blighted Mancini and Rafa Benitez’s line-ups won’t be missed.

Arsene Wenger has confirmed Lukas Fabianksi is back in the Arsenal squad for this evening’s crucial home game with Wigan. Yesterday’s press conference also saw the Gunners boss indicate he expects Kieran Gibbs to return after the left-back missed out with a calf complaint against QPR, while Wenger also discussed the reason behind Lukas Podolski’s restricted game time this term. The German international – who is favourite to continue in the central role as Olivier Giroud serves the last of a three match suspension – has managed the full 90 minutes just once since arriving from FC Cologne last summer and has been a peripheral figure in the first-team over the last couple of month. Wenger cited the mid-winter Bundesliga break as a reason for Podolski’s fatigue in his debut season at the Emirates:

“He had a good start [to the season], a very strong start. After that, he suffered a little bit physically and mentally because in Germany they have a break in mid-season. We have seen with many German players that when they come in for the first season, mentally they suffer a little bit. Now he has recovered and is getting stronger again. On the flanks is the most demanding position. Physically, especially in England, it’s very tough. He’s a striker. Many times we were in a position where we were in a winning position in the final 20 minutes and then I take a bit more of a guarantee defensively and take him out of the team sometimes.”

Wenger also revealed Jack Wilshere will undergo an operation to remove a pin in his ankle over the next few days. The midfielder was sidelined in March with a problem but his manager went to great lengths to assure the club’s official website that the procedure has been planned:

“Jack will have small, mild surgery. It is a very small, small, small one. It will not be a problem. He will need very minor surgery, but we manage that as far as we can until the end of the season. At the moment, we use him only in games when I feel he is really needed.”

Unconfirmed reports in the Mirror suggest that Eden Hazard is struggling to overcome a hamstring problem in time for Chelsea’s Europa League final with Benfica tomorrow evening. The Belgian sustained the injury in Saturday’s win at Villa and, having only just recovered from a calf complaint, is handing Rafa Benitez selection worries ahead of the showdown with the Portuguese club. Chelsea have yet to officially comment on the situation, however, though a possible absence would cause concern for Hazard’s owners ahead of Sunday’s home clash with Everton as Benitez looks to nail down a third place finish. Over 6,000 FPL managers have already drafted Hazard out this week, with a similar amount transferring in Frank Lampard after the latter’s double at Villa Park on Saturday lunchtime – only Philippe Coutinho (9,000) and Theo Walcott (8,000) have proven more popular thus far.

Hazard has been listed in the 25-man squad for tomorrow’s encounter, though the fact that Demba Ba has also been included by Benitez -despite being cup-tied for the match – doesn’t really shed any light on the situation.

Daniel Sturridge has heaped praise on Philippe Coutinho after the pair ran riot in Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Fulham last Sunday. Sturridge bagged a hat-trick, while the Brazilian picked up a couple of FPL assists for his display at the Cottage and the former Chelsea forward spoke of their flourishing understanding:

“It’s fantastic to be playing with someone of his calibre. It’s good to have somebody around who is hungry. He has a lot to prove just like I have. We have both come from big clubs where we haven’t had an opportunity to play week in week out. We are both hungry to show everybody what we are capable of doing. I can’t praise him highly enough for what he’s shown. It’s very difficult to do what he has done in such a short space of time. I want to say thanks to Philippe because he has made my job very easy. He has been very unselfish. He has put me in many times and it’s just fantastic to work with him.”

Certainly, both have made a significant impact since arriving in the winter transfer window and look canny acquisitions by Brendan Rodgers. While many had assumed Liverpool would toil after Steven Gerrard joined Luis Suarez on the sidelines last week, the two new boys wreaked havoc, with Coutinho handed a role behind Sturridge in a 3-5-1-1 for the first 45 minutes before Rodgers changed to a more familiar formation. Already, an incredible 48,000+ FPL managers have snapped up Sturridge of the Gameweek 38 home clash against QPR – with five goals, an assist and five bonus points (or 33 points) in three games since Suarez has been suspended, he looks set to be handed the armband by significant numbers for the final day of the season. As mentioned above, Coutinho has also proven popular and is second only to his Anfield team mate for transfers in this Gameweek.

See how the games go tonight and the Europa final. If the final goes beyond 90 minutes you might want to bench one of your Chelsea mids.

If Wigan go down tonight bench Kone. If City play like shit again bench Tevez.

Is it just me or is the argument that Rooney is past it is absurd. 12 goals and 10 assists in an injury blighted season and he is being played out of position sometimes event in midfield. I think he has suffered because Utd's midfield is so poor and he often has to drop back and help out.

Fergie has had run ins with him in the past and his lifestyle choices have been documented in the past with regards to smoking and drinking. He has quite clearly spat the dummy this season with those recent performances then putting in a transfer request.

So Fergie having run ins with him means that he needs to be the star man? Maybe he put in a transfer request because he genuinely feels a move away would benefit him. Maybe he doesn't get on with Moyes. Maybe I'm missing something but I don't think we can just assume that he needs to be the star man to perform and be happy. There are probably many things we don't know.

In 2010 Man City was the club he would have been leaving for. Not Real, not Barca or Bayern but City. That was engineered for nothing other than financial gain and nothing to do with ambition. He is at one of the most successful clubs in the world and you can't ever question their ambition.

Big players have big egos. That is not surprising. And big players want to play in the side week in week out as we have seen with RVP. Being benched and watching him win the golden boot and be their main forward is guaranteed to have niggled him. He also feels his best position is leading the line which is true but he is not getting to do that because RVP has occupied that role and doing it effectively.

So because he doesn't seem happy, you assume that it's because he's not the main man? Being unhappy about being benched is not the same as being unhappy because he is not the star man. Maybe what you say is true, but there is no way of knowing that. You are just assuming those reasons are why he is unhappy. If those reasons are true, how does that prove he is unhappy because he needs to be the main man? If. He thinks he's not being played regularly in his best position, he has every right to ask for a move if he thinks he can play more regularly somewhere else. If he feels he isn't needed anymore, then of course it would be a good idea to move. He also may not get on with Moyes. We don't know.

I think sometimes you can point to the evidence to support a conclusion without having enough evidence to make it a fact in a valid way. I just think that your evidence does not lead you to your conclusion. There is too much of a jump between, "Rooney seems unhappy and is not playing regularly" to " Rooney needs to be the star attraction to be happy". I understand what you're saying and maybe you're right, maybe you're wrong. I am just trying to say that your opinion does not seem justified and I'm explaining why. You're giving your opinion, and I'm opposing it. That is what the forum is for. I'm not saying for definite you're wrong.

Schurrle is pretty much a wide left player. Cant see Roon moving to Chelsea either. Pretty funny that you have Mikel in a dream team. I mean hes decent, but hes a squad player.

Ramires is a lot better than Mikel, imo. Even though Mikel has improved a lot this season. You lot need a striker thats fit for quick passing and movement, not sure Rooney would fit that bill. Just look at Nando/Ba, they cant fit in for the life of them.

I mean Rooney never try to take on anymore. All I see is he is just passing the ball rather than trying to take on defenders.

Suarez is way much better than Rooney these days. He can score, shoot, dribble, take on defenders, pass.

Think there will be one last test with the full load to see how the servers cope and check performance before rolling out. Its looking absolutely fanstatic though and the the "sort by rating" view is a godsend for catching up on an articles comments.

Comments themselves, which combine to produce a thread rating. Mods can hot topic comments to make them easy to find if they think they are good contributions to the community as well.

Users have slightly different ratings but that becomes complicated and really isnt all that important to the way the system works.

I hate the way assists get given now. I mean, come on. Crosses that take 2 deflections in the box and then scored shouldnt count as assists. I guess this problem goes away now that OPTA is taking over.

Clearly? What about the Bale assist against Wigan? I had him captained and profited from it, but no way is that a real assist. As i understand it, yes. FPL will be using Opta stats next season. Someone might correct me if im wrong.

4 players per team or allow prices to fluctuate more than 0.1 per day/0.3 per week. Encourages a higher variation of teams.

Same here. Develop a more detailed midfield format where defensive midfielders get more for clean sheets while "in the hole" loses their CS point and 1 point for a goal. Would open the midfield choice up massively.

PeppieandFelix has put a lot of work into that system and I really think it would work. Fellaini would have been a misclassified midfielder and would still have been essential, but the choice of very expensive Gerrard and Lampard over Arteta, Cabaye and Tayler isnt that straightforward, given budget constraints.

What we reckon then gents (and ladies)?

Mancini exit going be good news for City for the last two games? The players seem to have got their way, so might play with a bit of passion? Then again it is city players, so not convinced.

Have Hart & Tevez. Reckon they'll play? Kidd's not going to mess around to much is he?

Sold him last week, best thing I've done all season. How he ended up in my team I have no idea. Total waste of rations.

Sorry that doesn't help, about 5% for 90mins. About 10% to start. About 1% for a decent return.

Sell, even for a hit is my advice.

Dilemma for the final GW: Get Michu in for Guthrie and play 5 in midfield, and just leave Bentekkers alone? Or sub Benteke out for Carroll or Adebayor? Michu would be a pretty good captain shout against a piss poor Fulham side, even though Swans have nothing to play for. If i bring in Carroll or Ade i wouldnt be happy captaining them.

A'noon all, not sure what to do with my team for the last GW

    Hart (Bunn)
    Mert - Zaba - Demel
    Bale - Theo - Coutinho - Maloney
    RVP - Sturridge - Tevez

Subs: Wilson, Davies, Haz. 1.4m in bank

A - Haz to Michu (FT)
B - Haz to Dempsey (FT)
    C - A or B and Davies to Carra (-4)
    D - A or B and Davies to Glen J (-4)

Any thoughts much appreciated, I'm so tempted by the Carra flair pick for pens !
