Cesc Fabregas has been ruled out of Sunday’s Carling Cup Final with the hamstring injury sustained in last night’s 1-0 win over Stoke. Arsene Wenger has this evening revealed that the injury, although not a major setback, will keep his skipper out of the Wembley clash with Birmingham.

“It is a very small injury but certainly Cesc will be out for Sunday….For how long [beyond that] I don’t know but definitely for Sunday…He is disappointed. We all feel sorry and sad for him. The only way we help him now is to win the Carling Cup as he contributed a lot in this competition.”

The absence of Fabregas for Sunday’s game is not a concern for Fantasy Managers but, the chances of the Spaniard appearing for Gameweek’s 29 Emirates clash with Sunderland certainly are. A return for that one looks fairly remote to say the least given that Arsenal will surely be doing all they can to get Fabregas fit for the Champions League clash with Barcelona three days later. When asked on his skippers’ chances of making the European tie, Wenger was non-committal..

“It is very difficult to give a deadline…It is impossible.”

Elsewhere, Wenger also offered us an update on Theo Walcott’s condition – he looks likely to be out for at least a couple of weeks with the ankle sprain suffered in last night’s game.

“He has a classic ankle sprain. We don’t think there is any more damage to it. But it is still a sprain. We are sad for him too. He is out for Sunday and maybe one or two more weeks more.”

Wenger did have better news on Robin Van Persie, Laurent Koscielny and Abou Diaby however. All three are fit and in contention for Sunday’s final.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

i love hearing about people getting cahill. He's half injured, missed a sitter with his foot last game, and sooner or later managers are gonna say 'when baines is in our half, mr centre backs, one of stick your arse in cahill's face'.

keep snapping him up lads, Camzy.

Lulz. Funnily enough, I think Premier League managers may have cottoned onto Cahill's aerial threat a while ago.... Him scoring headers isn't a new phenomenon.

Im not a fan of getting him in either. He HAS to score to get over two points. I think his hot streak earlier in the season is over. Plus Saha being back can't be the best thing for him.

I got him in after two weeks of long deliberation.

Everton's fixtures are too nice, and he has a great record against Sunderland too. The other options are hardly smothering themselves in glory, and you know what, it's a risk I'm willing to take. Cahill plays as auxiliary forward, and if he starts he's always likely to be involved. There's also the added bonus of Everton's morale boost from beating Chelsea.

Besides, if he's no good, I have ample support from my front 7 after this week. The only thing that could be a problem is if he doesn't play this week, and it's a risk that I'm willing to take anyway considering he'll probably have a double 29 and good fixtures beyond.

      Good enough reasoning?

Fair enough - but injury niggles & tiredness aside I watched him in that Chelsea FA Cup game and the game oddly passed him by. Everton's home form hasn't been great this season either.

Saha may be worth a punt if he can stay uninjured for at least 10 minutes.

Yeah well Cahill does have that tendency to drift.

He probably was carrying the injury throughout the game so that might have had an effect.

It is a bit of a worry, but look at his fixtures... Everton are also known for finishing seasons strongly, so it's a risk worth taking in my opinion.

Can't even begin to worry about that with the mess my team seems to be in for this week

I'd say Kolarov is pretty nailed on at the moment. Kompany went off early, Zabaleta replacing him. That might mean he's less likely to be played at full back

It hardly matters if he plays left back or left wing.

He's on set pieces, and plays for the tightest defense in the league. At 5.7 he is amazing value.

I'm looking to get him in either this week or next.

I don't think i'm going to bring in any United players although tbh i have no real clue what to do. Fabregas is definitely going then it's either RVP, Odem or Adam for the chop and a likely 4 point hit

So I'm assuming Cahill is fit then reading by this article on Everton's official website?

Louis Saha and Jack Rodwell could be back in contention for the visit of Sunderland, according to manager David Moyes.

Rodwell (groin) is on the way back following an injury picked up on England Under-21 duty while Saha will hope to feature having missed the last two weeks after picking up a hamstring injury in training. Otherwise, the Blues are at full-strength.

Clutching at straws i think. I did this a lot earlier in the season and by this i mean bringing in players who aren't in form and hoping they start delivering fpl points. It didn't work 🙁

For me Baines is the only real candidate from Everton but i really don't need another defender so will probably bypass them this week.

the fact that Everton beat Blackpool 5-3 recently, with Arteta on the pitch the entire game, and he didn't even get an assist, rules him out for me

Cahill it is. Gonna keep him until GW32 then get rid for Lampard

    My team for this week:

    Al-Habsi (Foster)

    Coleman, Huth, Baird, Simpson (Djourou)

Cahill, Nani, Yaya Toure, Barton (VDV)

    Tevez, Berbatov (RVP)

I used my 2 free transfers on these:
    Fabregas > Cahill
    Adam > Barton

I'm tempted to do Baird > Kolarov for a 4 point hit

Any changes you think i should make?

Only 6 players likely to start this GW, 28 pts ahead in my main league & 15 pts ahead in MOTM for Feb... Do i take a big hit or not? Thinking 12 point hit makes sense! 8 pt hit is the most i've ever taken, what to do, hmmm..

my mate is 40 points behind me, but is on his wildcard... have to say that worries me a bit.

hopefully he'll mess his team up enough just planning for this week, that any gain will be temporary

but to answer your question... avoid the hit, unless the players you're getting you actually want for the long term.

hits aren't usually worth it for one-off weeks

    coleman, ivan, vidic

    nani,

    tevez, odemwingie.

    bloody hell,

Foster, rvp, walcott, djourou, johnson, vdv, Adam, and most likely etherington.

I've got him aswell. Still in with a decent shout for a cleansheet. Im worried Coleman won't play.

i know i got him in when i seen he was only 6m, and cos he cant playing champions league. i think it will be him and terry at CB, with ivanovic moved to RB

do u still think walcott or adam to young, dunno about cahill with his injury doubt have got 5.8 in bank?

Your in quite a comfortable situation so you can afford a 4pt hit to get a player who will play (2 points made back already)

Probably one of the most generic questions around these parts lately im sure BUT here goes

    Adam -> Barton
    Fabs -> Cahill

4pt? yeah? i can field 11 (bar maybe kelly) with these...

I'm thinking of risking it on cahill especially with his coming fixtures but i can't say im overly confident about it. Im happier with my adam - barton move though with fixtures & set pieces..
