Rooney hysteria is in full effect following this afternoon’s press conference from Alex Ferguson in which he confirmed that the striker wants out of Old Trafford. Ferguson revealed that he was left “dumbfounded” by the player’s intent to leave the club and went on to lay the situation bare for press and fans alike. You can read a comprehensive transcript of the conference on United’s official site.

For Fantasy Managers it’s another twist in a season which has already many of the so-called heavy hitters stall and disappoint. While Rooney has struggled to find a semblance of last season’s devastating form, the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Fernando Torres and Frank Lampard have all failed to ignite, hampered by injuries and remnants of World Cup hangovers.

The situation with Rooney may change and he may yet prove to be an asset before his time at United comes to an end. Right now however, that seems unlikely. There is clearly tension between player and manager and Rooney’s displays to this point are a world away from last season’s showings.

Ferguson has stressed that the door of negotiation remains open, but in reality it appears that United will look to offload Rooney in January before his value diminishes. Just what he can produce in their colours up to that point is up for debate, there are already unfounded reports that Ferguson will leave Rooney out of his side from this point on.

In Fantasy terms he certainly looks set to remain an outcast. In a season where Didier Drogba and Carlos Tevez have stepped up and maintained their strong return rate, Rooney will surely remain on the periphery of our thinking. In many ways Fantasy Managers will be looking for his form to remain dipped in order to allow the likes of Dimitar Berbatov and perhaps even Javier Hernandez further opportunity to flourish.

To compound matters, Ferguson also confirmed that Rooney will not take any part in United’s Champions League tie with Bursaspor on Wednesday after being stretchered off with an ankle injury in training today. That setback, coupled with today’s revelations surely puts Rooney down as a major doubt to start at the Britannia this weekend. The Berbatov/Hernandez partnership could well be in force again then. It will be interesting to see just how today’s developments affect United as a club and in turn, whether this casts a huge cloud over their title credentials and their value as a source of Fantasy talent.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

So Bosingwa seems likely to be back in this weekend but just how firmly do we see him holding on to the starting role? Occasionally rested (seems the most likely) or fully rotated with the various other options?

Don't know, but I'm tempted to take the risk. If we know he'll start vs Wolves, it could be like one of his old school 12+ scores.

Jeez they have civil marriages for everything now 😉
I would sell him because he wont be a nailed on starter - if he proves he will be then I will keep him. No point having a 5.6m defender that only features in 65% of games.

In your opinion, but that's not necessarily the opinion of the manager. I think it's reasonable to say Ivanovic is a more solid defender whilst Bosingwa has the flair. IMO Bosingwa is only an adept defender and no better than Glen Johnson. Having said all that, I'm seriously tempted by him if I can be sure he will play.

                    +1

Bosingwa obviously gives them more threat going forward and will be great for those games against weaker teams at the Bridge, especially at that price. But if you actually wanted a defender in your team you'd always pick Ivan imo

iirc, ivanovic only started getting game time once bosingwa got injured. only rarely did hiddink start ivanovic ahead of bosingwa.

of course, since a season has passed, the manager might now hold ivanovic in higher regard than bosingwa.

a lot can change in a year. bosingwa played 4 of the 6 opening games last season, ivanovic played 3 (2 at rb when bos was fit and once at cb v sunderland). and btw imo alex and ivanovic are basically carbon copies of eachother, the only difference being alex's distribution is slightly better and of course that free kick.

tough one to call...with just 3 chelski options my plan is to stick with whoever is most likely to get air time to score points - drogs/cash/malouda but either of the latter 2 are at risk too i suppose!

now you are on the right track!

honestly, the 27 27 might be useless but it shows a point that surfaced here over the last number of days

everyone posts the same question, including me, as essentially it doesnt matter!

toss of a coin, and when it goes down to that, people an give you all the opinions in the world but you would need a crystal ball to know who will do best!

              I have the same dilemma..

I think Adams fixtures are better but that Nzogbia is the better player.

Then again, there is an argument that Nzogbia has had his points now (24 in 2), so perhaps Adam is the better option.

Itll take me a while to decide this!

Over the course of the season i would reckon Tevez+Fabs will score similar points (Fabs injuries aside) - but does anyone share my belief that Tevez gives the better captain option? i know he scores big but then on any given week he can get 4 or 5 points where tevez is more likely to bring in the 8 or 9 points; in any case drogs will generally be the number one choice but those backup captain points are CRUCIAL!!

Next 4 weeks, hmmm if in doubt go with the fixtures. Possibly Simpson (keep an eye if he starts this weekend) and Coleman (tough next one but improves for GW10,11,12).

Ancelotti may provide us with his starting 11 again. With Alex recovering from injury I think he can afford to ease him back in and miss the Wolves game. That's my guess anyway...

I'm getting Bos arfa - that's the only thing Ancelotti has flagged up in advance of the Wolves game so far.

I think Malouda has a high chance of being benched - I'm concerned - playing tonight was not a good sign for the weekend.

Well yes that is true but he is a poacher and relies on service, he not gonna create too many on his own. Doesn't mean he isn't quality though. I was watching the real madrid channel a while back (is it even on Sky anymore?) and then showed every goal from the 2009/10 season and it was quite remarkable watching him. Almost every goal Higuain scored was a side foot finish and he scored a bundle

He scores goals alright, usually not at critical stages in the CL or in title deciders against Barca. He is incredibly selfish and I still think he needs 2 or 3 good chances for every goal he scores..I'm not saying he's a bad player, it's just an area that they could improve on

Want to get in Fabs in GW10

I have to drop one of CAshley, Nani, Drogba, Malouda to be able to afford Fabs. Hence drop Malouda even though I've got 0.4 profit (0.8 rise) tied up in him.

SAF does seem genuinely hurt and resigned to the Rooney situation. He really can't understand the logic behind his transfer request and was clearly incensed by the 'hard done to' not injured story from Rooney after the England game.

I've no sympathy whatsoever with Rooney- SAF put up with a lot of shit for that guy and defended his temperament in the face of derision- and this is the thanks he gets?!

When I was watching the Rangers, I cringed when I saw Rooney twist his ankle yet again and thought he'd be out for weeks, but he was back next game with strapping around it, so I don't know who he is trying to kid. Ok it might have been a minor injury that he could still get through games on, but it seriously affects how you approach the game. The way I see it, is Fergie tried to rest him and he got upset thinking that he was punishing him for the transfer request. Maybe he was I don't know, but with Rooney challenging him after the England game, Fergie felt his hand was forced.

I still think there's a lot more we don't really know about here, but on the face of it the only one who's been stabbed in the back here is SAF- if he overplayed rooney that's because rooney wants to play, not because he was forced to...

From what I recall last season, Bosingwa got injured away to Aston Villa in GW9 I believe.

In the first 8 gameweeks of last season, he started every game apart from the Liverpool game where he was out injured, assisting once with a short pass to Deco who scored away at Sunderland in a 3-1 win. (Incidently that Sunderland match was the only league game that Shevchenko played in for Chelsea last season.)

I did some analysis on here just after Bosingwa got injured last season, that showed that Bosingwa had more goal attempts and more crosses than Cole in the 7 games they played together at the start of the 09/10 season, and I couldn't wait to get him in instead of Cole, but that never materialised as Jose never recovered in time and kept having more operations and such like.

Ivanovic only really got a look in once Bosingwa was out. However, he has done well so may occasionally play at RB if Bosingwa gets rested, a bit like Zhirkov played at LB sporadically to rest Cole last season. Bosingwa is easily first choice RB basically.

No, definitely not. Ancelotti likes the extra width that two attacking full-backs give him, particularly with the narrow midfield of Mikel, Essien and Lamps.

Ancelotti is probably not happy that all the play has to go down the left side at the moment, but with Bosingwa he now knows that there is more balance to the side and they can go down either flank with equal vigour.

And at 5.6, who cares if JB is rested for the odd game, I still expect him to play 80% of the time at least.

Surely it makes sense to look at the evidence at the start of last season when all of them were fit, Bosingwa started every match.

You're assuming that Ancelotti has changed his mind about Bosingwa, whilst JB has been out injured, why would he do this? Ivanovic is more a centre-back that can fill in at right-back, a bit like Jamie Carragher.

Plus JB was nailed on at right-back for the whole of the 08/09 season - when he's fit, he plays...

Pretty sure that he wasn't injured for the Liverpool game, and neither was he injured for the Community Shield final where Ivanovic played too.

I've said it time and time again, but it seems as though even back then Carlo didn't seem to trust him in the bigger games. A year later, Ivanovic has more than proven himself as a RB (to the extent that he was in the PFA team of the Year) and I can't see Bosingwa completely taking the position away from him.

I agree with Granville further up the page, Bosingwa can't defend for shit, and in the 20 minutes he played vs Villa we were hit a couple of times on the counter attack with Cole and Bosingwa far up the pitch. Playing with Ivanovic on the right (he's better going forward than people give him credit for) gives the defence much more balance with Cashley obviously bombing down the left constantly. Carlo's comments RE Bosingwa on Friday seem to mean that he'll be involved relatively frequently at RB, but in the short term, he'll play against Wolves but then will probably be on the bench for both the Blackburn and Liverpool games.

As for the centre back situation: Alex and Terry are first choice, simple as. Alex is the best centre back at the club right now and is one of the best Chelsea have had in the Premiership, at least IMO. I can't imagine any sensible manager wanting to rotate his centre backs heavily so for the majority of games it will be Terry and Alex in the centre with Bos/Ivan at RB, and who plays there will be chosen based on the opposition more than anything else.

By all means get Bosingwa in for the Wolves game, he could score 10+ points, but then expect f*ck all for the next two games where I'd imagine he'll be on the bench.

5.6 isn't too expensive, but for me it's far too expensive for someone who could easily be on the bench for more than half of our games.

I'm pretty sure he was injured for the Liverpool game last season, but if not, then fair enough.

Even Cole isn't 100% nailed on, as Zhirkov replaced him against Fulham at home last season, so for 5.6, for a Chelsea defender that attacks loads, that should play all the easy games, but may miss the odd hard game; I'm sorry, that's a steal for me.

In Fantasy terms, yes. Bosingwa outscored Cole in 08/09 where they had virtually identical amount of minutes, Cole 1 goal and 2 assists, Bosingwa 2 goals and 4 assists...

Starting price last season, Bosingwa 7.5, Cole 7.0.

This season Bosingwa started cheap as he was injured most of last season.

Jamsiep knows loads about Chelsea, way more than I do, but on this issue I think I know a lot too.

it does add more credibility, but still gets clouded under the issue of a 12 month injury during which time ivanovic (regardless of whether bosingwa's injury paved the way for him) really stepped up and was a mini relvelation at rb

          yes and no,

im wondering about this bosingwa move myself.
hes playing this week, but ivanovic has done nothing wrong, can he jus be dropped so easily?

id worry you would downgrade ashley and be stuck with a man playing half or a quarter the games he is.

if hes guarenteed all games, then yes!

i dunno, ivanovic is more of a cb, so maybe him and alex can be the ones sharing and bos can have his spot.

Ivanovic will rotate mainly with Alex, and Ferreira/Ivan might once in a while play RB in order to rest Bosingwa.

Bosingwa joined Chelsea at the start of the 08/09 season. At each point since he first joined that he has been fit to play, he has been nailed on.

As in, you put him in your 11 every week, if he doesn't play once in a while, he will auto-sub out.

Therefore, you start him every week that he is fit, unles he's at Old Trafford perhaps.

ok thats fair enough, sorry misunderstood.

ya , the face that hes guarenteed start against wolves means i could risk both simpson and him this week and not be too worried

UNLESS with ashley a doubt he doesnt want to risk both zhirkov and bos, a possibility ,but luckily we will have a lovely press conference friday to decipher that one

then there is the will he wont he play versus blackburn the next week. yes he was favoured over ivanovic in genral before his injury but a 12 month injury is a pretty big deal.

He'll start against Wolves, then maybe not the next match, but after that he should be fully up and running, and once he is completely back, he will start the majority of the time, a bit like Kolarov will play most of the time, but Bridge will play occasionally, and Boateng/Richards too.

i see this bosingwa starting v wolves as a bit of a charity case personally. imo ancelotti has thought right bosingwa has been out for ages and ideally needs a start, which game coming up is the best to start him in.... hmm wolves (the current worst team in the league) at home. i know what your saying but everyone seems to be ignoring the fact he was out for a year, a long long time in football terms. the past is irrelevent in this case when a long injury is involved

He's played in the reserves a few times, it won't take him forever to get up to speed. By mid-November latest he will back fully.

not sure fitness is the problem, getting back to his pre injury standard is the issue i'd say. pre and post injury rosicky being a perfect example. if he was back to his pre injury standards then yeah he'd be a good bet to play the majority of games but anything less and ivanovic will get games

    Can I just remind all United fans about something that would cheer me up if I supported your horrors;
Three weeks ago Diego Forlan issued a come and get me plea as he wants to play in the EPL. Yes he was nearly ruined at United the first time round but I think most can agree he is now a class act. Plus he would be pretty reasonably priced, could be a great 2 year stopgap for ya.

ya but fergie has come out and said that the only player he would resign is ronaldo (maybe we can thro rooney in that pile in a few months)

but fergies stubborness is something that we have to factor in, and more importantly would forlan go to a cub that nearly ruined him?

      Backline is currently.

      Williamson, Jones, Dann, Alex, Toure

Will be playing 3 at the back this week and want to bring in 2 of Coleman, Elmo or Bramble. Who do you think should be the 2 to go?

I'm thinking Alex and Toure then going Dann to Kolorav next week. Thoughts?

I presume you are freeing up cash for Fab GW10? If so, Alex and Toure out for Elmo and Coleman. Then Kolarov is a good option for your (one) expensive defender. I take it Nasri to Fab also.

Spot on RCA! Will go Bale to N'Zog also so I can possible move Jones to Bosingwa after but that's just a maybe...clearly for the same reasons of all the posts above.
