Branislav Ivanovic heads home a last-gasp winner to clinch the Europa League trophy for Chelsea. Fernando Torres is also amongst the goals, while Juan Mata supplies both assists as Rafa Benitez adds another trophy to his CV. Elsewhere, Theo Walcott is finally content with his role on the Arsenal right, while Paolo Di Canio threatens to cut short Sunderland’s summer break if they fail to impress at Tottenham on Sunday.

Rafa Benitez made four changes from the side that edged past Villa on Saturday afternoon for last night’s Europa League final. Both Eden Hazard and John Terry missed out with injury, while Victor Moses dropped to the bench and Demba Ba was cup-tied. In came Branislav Ivanovic, Fernando Torres, Oscar and David Luiz – the latter moved into central midfield, allowing Ramires to take up a berth on the right of the attacking midfield three. Ahead of the home game against Everton this Sunday, Benitez made no substitutions during the game, with the likes of Frank Lampard and Mata both retained for the full 90 minutes, though as the Chelsea manager’s lineup against Villa showed, his rest and rotation policy hasn’t been quite as extreme as anticipated.

From a Fantasy perspective, the most significant aspect of last night’s result is the knock-on effect it will have on the start of next season – Chelsea will now face Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund in the European Super Cup in late August, meaning that, similar to this season, there’s a strong possibility they will kick off their domestic campaign with a double Gameweek.

Theo Walcott has admitted he is now settled with his role on the Arsenal right flank. The winger has made repeated requests for a chance through the middle this season and while he was briefly handed a central berth midway through the campaign, has mainly been utilised out wide by Arsene Wenger. After Tuesday’s 4-1 win over Wigan, he spoke of the situation:

“Wherever the manager wants to play me, I will do that for the team. So if things are going well, there is no need to change anything, I believe. I’m the sort of player that if things are going well, don’t change them. I am making runs in and the manager is playing me up front now and then. I can wander at times and it works – there is a lot of rotation in that front line so when it is working, don’t change it.”

Ironically, while Wenger chose Lukas Podolski to lead the line over the last three games as a result of Olivier Giroud’s suspension, Walcott has returned to form and scored in every match in the Frenchman’s absence. As Arsenal travel to Newcastle this Sunday in desperate need of a win, over 16,000 FPL managers have already snapped Walcott up – more than any Gunners player and third most popular trade this week behind Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho as Walcott looks to find the net for four straight matches for the first time this season.

His side may be finally safe from the threat of relegation but Paolo Di Canio has threatened to cut short Sunderland’s summer break if his players don’t perform against Spurs on Sunday. The last few weeks have seen a number of clubs such as Swansea, West Brom and Fulham turn in somewhat indifferent displays but the Black Cats boss has revealed he is ready to act should his side follow suit:

“We have one game to go and we have to make sure we perform well. Our future starts now – our new mentality. I told them we can win, draw or lose with dignity, respecting the club’s name and the fans who follow them. But if not I will reduce their holiday. I will give them the minimum I can give to them, which is four weeks, 28 days instead of 38 or 40. I’m sure four or five individuals don’t need this kind of situation. But many of the others must realise we need rules to change the mentality and use punishment in some way.”

With Spurs still battling Chelsea and Arsenal for the Champions League spots, Sunderland certainly look up against it on Sunday. Given that their previous road trip ended in a 6-1 defeat at Villa, plenty Fantasy managers will be looking to a heavily motivated Andre Villas-Boas’ side to produce – Gareth Bale is second only to Daniel Sturridge in this week’s Captain Poll, which both Emmanuel Adebayor and Clint Dempsey have started to hit their stride; both have produced double figure hauls in two of their last four starts and have the potential to make the difference in many a mini league.

Di Canio also displayed some of his unique man-management skills yesterday. The Sunderland boss welcomed back Connor Wickham to the fold last week after the youngster recovered from a calf injury and switched formation from 4-4-1-1 to a 4-4-2 after the break against Southampton, with Adam Johnson moving from “the hole” to the left flank as Wickham partnered Danny Graham up front. While it remains to be seen whether the Italian will start with Wickham in the XI to face Tottenham, his manager made it perfectly clear just how frustrating the player can be:

“Maybe, with this guy, I have to slap his face a little bit. I’m talking about motivating him in a genuine way because he has so much potential. But sometimes he comes in and he seems to be looking around saying, ‘Where am I?’ I want to say, ‘You are on the football pitch, with the grass.”

Are we all in agreement that Chelsea and Man United fans are the worst fans on the planet?

Some might say Liverpool with their "next season" talk. But you can't topple the fair-weather Man United fans or the Chelsea fans who think an example of a club suffering is losing Mourinho.

Nope. That's what arrogant glory hunters will have you believe.

I'm talking about the people that couldn't even tell you the name of Man Uniteds RB, don't watch a match against a lower half team all season and then when it's a Super Sunday where they are playing a title rival, it's suddenly all they care about. Then they have the audacity to shout "WE ARE THE BEST WHO THE **** ARE YOU?".

        You know i'm right.

Sheep, i'm far from jealous. I don't believe in jealousy of other clubs, if you were that jealous, you'd support them. You support your own club for a reason, whether they are winning or not.

As for me generalising, not really - especially with Man United - it's the majority and anyone who disputes that is wrong. Of course there are a good amount of good fans, that's obvious and i'm not saying their isn't. A high percentage of Man United fanbase is an embarrassment though and anyone would be ignorant to disagree.

That's all very well saying this, but for fans of those clubs losing someone like Mourinho is a big deal. Coaches like him and Fergie bring trophies and naturally they worry that with that loss the next manager may not be capable of replicating that same standard.

I'm a Man Utd fan, and proud of it. Doesn't mean I'm going to go about constantly bad mouthing Luis Suarez (who's ban for the Evra thing was blown out of proportion btw) or hating on Liverpool fans. If that makes me one of the "worst" fans on the planet...then suck my trophy winning dick :p

Top of ML by 3 points,

    DDG (Bunn)
    Vert Enrique O’Brien (shaw, Davies)
Hazard Bale (c) Fellaini Maloney Wally
    RVP Sturridge (Benteke)

    Opponent
    Jussy Beg
    Sagna Rio Davies Zaba Turner
    Bale Wally Snodgrass Fellaini Sissocko
    RVP Kone Tevez

1FT 0.3 in the bank, was thinking maybe swap DDG to jussy or if hazard is a doubt maybe swap him out for Lennon/Dempsey/Silva… And should implay shaw instead of maloney? Advice appreciated!

Can't really pick a captain this week - struggling:

    A. Bale - the obvious
    B. RVP - the reliable
    C. Sturridge - the flair
    D. O'Brien - the give a f@ck

Also Walcott, Tevez and Coutinho in the mix....

For me if Bale fails, I'll be like 'Oh well, he's been on mega form, no issues'. If Sturridge fails. I'll be like ' What the hell was I doing trusting him with the armband'.

The issue is QPR really are rubber pants x 10.

        I'm going Bale, decided.

    @UNOAIME

i support your view to an extent. yes the clubs which are successful have greater no of irritating or plastic fans who dont even know some of the first team players' names!!!
i'll give an example: previous year the day city won the league, it gave birth to so many new city fans!!! among them many were plastic, glory-hunters. i know one of my friends who jumped and partied that day who didnt even know who yaya toure was.he just knew aguero, silva and 1 or 2 more players who get the limelight.

Yes, United,Chelsea have plastic fans but not only Chelsea,United...all successful clubs have plastic fans!!!
On the other hand clubs want no of fans to increase. Success brings fans and increase in fans means increase in merchandise sale!!!

Of course. I'm not disputing against a club having a lot of fans, it's what the club wants as it increase revenue. I'd love it Spurs had a couple million more fans. 🙂

My point is that a huge amount of Man United fans don't even pay attention to the club they support unless it's a big match. They are so used to winning that it's barely even a novelty if they win something now but will still belittle other clubs because of it. If you put a lot of time and dedication into your team then you have the right to shout about it. Old Trafford is quiet for a reason, most of them have travelled from London or an holiday from Asia.

A big amount of Man United fans haven't known anything else but winning. A ridiculous amount of people aged 15-30 support Man United because of all the stuff they've won in their lifetime.

they abused moyes and shouted moyesout!!!

though i dont want it to happen but if moyes starts losing few matches then we'll get to know more of who are the real fans of the club!!!

They'll continue to say they support them but they'll be more open about their lack of caring. Instead of "COME ON UNITED" it'll be "it's only football, i don't really care".

Any real football follower thinks Moyes is a good appointment because of the longetivity he might have. Those who shouted "Moyes out" either hadn't heard of him before or has no idea of the good work he's done at Everton on a shoestring budget.

behind united's so much success over the years there could be a good reason that they give their managers the time to show their potential !!!

i dont think there is any other club in england who would have appointed a new manager for straight 6 years!!! it gives the manager some confidence also...that if he cant do well in the first season also there wont be someone to show him the exit door!!!

Any chance at all of ba starting Sunday?

Had a mare and got him in last week!

    Could bench him for Fellaini.
