In what proved to be his last season in charge at Old Trafford, Sir Alex Fergusonโ€™s final move in the transfer market was to snap up Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace. The highly-rated youngster signed for the champions in a ยฃ15m deal back in January, before spending the rest of the 2012/13 campaign on loan at Selhurst Park:

Having dazzled in Mondayโ€™s Championship Play-Off final win over Watford at Wembley, the fleet-footed 20-year-old now heads to United on a five-and-a-half year contract to ply his trade under new boss, David Moyes. Prior to his decision to step down, Ferguson heaped praise on Zaha earlier this year after confirming the wingerโ€™s acquisition:

“We are signing a player of potential. We always feel we develop players well. We have proved that many times. We hope the boy enjoys coming here, when he comes in the summer.”

The Statistics

Born in the Ivory Coast, Zaha moved to London at the age of four and joined Palaceโ€™s youth set-up just five years later. He made his debut as a 17-year-old in April 2010 before nailing down a regular role at the London club over the next three seasons and, as the statistics show, heโ€™s improving with every passing year.

His first term as a regular saw Zaha produce a single goal and five assists from 41 appearances, before delivering six goals and seven assists in 2011/12. This time round, he stepped up again, with a telling contribution of six goals and eight assists in 43 league matches in addition to a couple of goals and assist in the clubโ€™s successful Play-Off bid.

Zaha has represented England Under 19s a couple of times and turned out for the Under 21 side on seven occasions before making his debut for the senior side in a friendly against Sweden last November.

The Prospects

Much depends on David Moyesโ€™ assessment of the United first-team squad. Off the field, the former Everton manager has already began an overhaul of the clubโ€™s backroom staff and certainly wonโ€™t shirk from any major decisions. With Nani, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young and Danny Welbeck all affording Moyes options on the right, though, itโ€™s fair to say Zaha may find regular game time hard to come by.

Essentially, Zahaโ€™s prospects as a Fantasy force look likely to be boosted by a loan move. In recent times at Goodison, Moyes has farmed out the likes of Seamus Coleman and Ross Barkley in order to afford them first-team experience and with Ian Holloway already admitting heโ€™s keen to have him for another season at Palace, a switch back to Selhurst Park would allow him time to find his top-flight feet amongst more familiar surrounds.

While Palace chairman Steve Parish is far from optimistic over the clubโ€™s chances of reacquiring the winger for the 2013/14 campaign, he was quick to leave the option open:

“Wilfried deserves his chance to go to Manchester United with a view to making it there. I think he is good enough and will figure in their first team. We are certainly not thinking about loaning him back. We will be planning for life without him. If he does get loaned out to another Premier League club then obviously we would want to be in the mix.”

Versatile enough to operate up front, Zaha looks likely to be classified as a midfielder across the Fantasy games, though his initial price tag could be critical when assessing his prospects. If he nails down a regular role at United he has the potential to be an absolute bargain but, conversely, a โ€œUnited midfieldโ€ starting price could well prove too costly if he moves out on loan.

Intriguingly, Nick Powell was handed a 5.0 starting price in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) upon arriving from Crewe last summer, while the likes of Ryan Giggs began the season at 6.5. Given the fanfare surrounding Zahaโ€™s arrival, though, anything less than 6.0 would surprise and could force us to bypass his undoubted abilities as we scour the budget bracket for better value.

Maybe not though. Palace could struggle to score goals in the PL and if they don't have someone to convert their chances the prospect of having him might not be that great.

Murray out for the season is a very bitter blow. They should sign some experienced PL striker (Bent/Odemwingie), or else, I see them going down again.

It depends on how much game time Moyes can give him. His development is in the interests of United and they might see regular game time more beneficial than being in and out the team.

He is young, confident and cocky also. Moyes is a bit of a no nonsense kind of guy so it will be interesting to see how the two work together.

I've always maintained that United have only one quality midfielder - Carrick. Zaha should right walk in right away into the XI, but then, we don't know if Moyes rates him as highly as SAF.

The step up to playing for United every week is a world away from playing for Palace. It's not just his ability that will determine his success. It's how he deals with the pressure and expectation of playing for one of the biggest clubs, whether he can appreciate that he won't play every week and how hard he works at his game to become the best.

Look at Nani. He has all the credentials to become a great player and it hasn't worked out that way. United expect you to perform every week not just when it suits.

177 max for Berbatov. Nothing special FPL wise.

Tevez had 2 fails out of 3 before his breakout season. He should start 9 or so again.

Berba was at Spurs wasn't he? Tevez played second fiddle to Rooney I think.

I suppose it all depends what price FPL kick started them with in those years. The price hike is usually the season after the good scoring.

it's up to the owner and the team how they want to run things. it could be decided that you run things like a democracy and vote upon all the decisions or it could be more of the scouts giving advice and opinions and the owner making decisions with the help of the manager or somewhere in between. there's no set formula of how to do it so each owner and each team has to figure out what works for them

Stop me if I am wrong, Zaha scored 8 goals(?) in a lower league, in a team where he was the superstar...

At Utd, he will be playing in a tougher league, will be bottom of the ranking, will play less minutes...

Id be surprised if he gets 5 goals.

    Better options for sure.

He's not a fantasy prospect, but from what i've seen he likes to beat a man and get the ball into the box, he just needs to be a bit more direct, no pissing around with the ball. If he does this, I can see him creating more chances for that man Robin.

I understand that he wants his own people, and having his own assistant manager is ok, and I'm guessing Phelan would like to try managing a club by himself perhaps. But Meulensteen and Steele are quality staff, and I can't see that it would be that wise to get rid of them?

yeah his stats aren't very encouraging at all. however he is still young and improving.

looking at his last season he had six goals and eight assists in 43 league matches, that's hardly encouraging imo as at most he'd have 38 league matches (assuming he plays every game and has no injuries or suspensions or rest/rotation) and this is a harder league.

even if he got 6 goals and 8 assists that not too strong of an fpl prospect I wouldn't think...

Would be same starting price as Lallana and Nolan had when arriving last season. Comparing their stats for their last season in the Championship we see:

      Zaha | 46 | 8 | 11
      Lallana | 41 | 11 | 10
      Nolan | 45 | 13 | 6

I feel the potential Lallana and Nolan had with Southampton and West Ham last year was bigger. Their stats certainly hinted at that. Although Zaha is a good player, he's not getting as many goals as I would have hoped for.

        Might consider him at 5.5.

      That is odd.

Anyone know whether Meulensteen is leaving the club or staying? I read somewhere that he might stay on, but as an academy trainer and not the first team.

I think I read he was being demoted to Head of Youth or some shit and he siad no. But I really wouldn't know. Favourite with PP to be the next Wigan manager.

Fredrik Semb Berge from Norway is classified as a striker but is really a defender. Stay clear.

Hedenstad. Will play left.back, might want to impress to perhaps claim Riises old spot on the first team.

Strandberg, Rogne and Berge competing for the centre-back roles. Not entirely sure who's first choice there.

    Ok so last time. http://www.redbullbedroomjam.ie/2013-band/aces-wild/

Would be really nice if you could help out a young band form down home (Cobh). Give it a rating, watch it, tweet it, share it whatever. The more there is the more chance they have of winning. Won't take ye 2secs.

    Thanks a million
