634x258 Champions League

As the Champions League final approached extra-time last weekend, Arjen Robben’s late winner for Bayern Munich over Borussia Dortmund not only proved pivotal for Jupp Heynckes’ side, it also played a part at the top of the TotelFootball Scout Pool standings. With the competition now at a close, we give a final heads-up to our top five performers.

Thanks to their scoring system, TotelFootball affords Fantasy managers the occasional off-week. Rather than taking a cumulative tally for the overall Champions League campaign, the Scout Pool accounts for each player’s highest four hauls. Furthermore, TotelFootball added a nice little twist prior to the semi-final stage – from that point on, Fantasy managers were allowed no more trades and had to assemble their squads for both sets of semis and the final, taking in three rounds of “Final Series” action.

The Fantasy Football Scout team went all in on Barcelona and Real Madrid before the last four got underway and, needless to say, our decision was cruelly punished as we plummeted to 32nd in the Scout Pool. Our top five protagonists all had the foresight to look to the Bundesliga, however, and were ultimately rewarded by loading up on Bayern and Dortmund players.

Scout Pool Standings

Ali Kaz took top spot with an overall score of 483 points. He had five players return 20+ points over the Final Series, with Dortmund’s soon-to-be-Bayern forward Robert Lewandowski the top performer on 39 points. Bayern’s Thomas Muller chipped in with 29 points, while Robben was joined by his keeper Manuel Neuer on 28 points. Philipp Lahm’s 22 points also made a difference for Ali Kaz, who produced 225 over that last trio of fixtures to earn himself an iPad3 as the inaugural winner of the FFS Champions League competition.

Tucked in behind in second was Mile High. Our site regular has been solid in the cup competitions all season and was in strong form once again as a Final Series haul of 225 points took his tally to 472 points overall. Incredibly, our top two selected 10 of the same starting XI – MileHigh opted for Dortmund full-back Lukasz Piszczek, while Ali Kaz went for Mats Hummels at the heart of Jurgen Klopp’s defence. Mile High, along with every Fantasy manager placed between second and fifth, wins a subscription to the Fantasy Football Scout members area next season.

Former leader slipped to third over the run in. He racked up 469 points overall after scoring 212 points in the Final Series – his decision to select Mario Gomez over Thomas Muller made all the difference. Gomez served up a nine point haul while Muller produced 29 points; frustratingly for JKane89, picking the latter would have kept him ahead of the pack and clinched the top prize.

Dandandand takes fourth after a Final Series score of 224 points. He arrived at Saturday’s final sitting in second place in the Scout Pool but, without Robben in his side, slipped back in the pecking order with an overall score of 468 points. Further back, DLL18 and Lamps92 tied for fifth spot on 459 points. The former’s decision to leave Robben on the bench proved costly, while the latter made a late surge to stake his claim, with a Final Series score of 232 points the best of our featured players.

For those of you who took part in the Private Pool, or those who have previously played TotelFootball, we’d welcome your feedback on the game. We may well go on supporting it next season, particularly if the official Champions League game continues to suffer from the issues of this season’s campaign. Drop us a line with your thoughts at support@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

I feel I can discuss this issue because we are in the rest zone.

Sport has become a playground for the rich and bigots of a corrupt banking culture of greed and vindictiveness.

How can we balance ludicrous wages of pro football players, against the working class man, that works his heart out to pay his bills and hopefully has enough left over, to go to the ground and enjoy the match

I like the word "balance" because I feel It is ignored with a greedy corrupt institution of money launderers

You know what, I do care that our government is selling our high housing estates to Russian/Arab and other unscrupulous multimillionaire (slip a wad in my back pocket) peoples. At the same time are selling our industry and jobs out to the cheapest bidder and influx of labour that will make them more millions at the expense of the British labour force.

So while these Bigoted corrupt bankers and there allies enjoy the next football season and the pro footballer enjoys buying his wag another £2000 handbag, I will always think about my rusty lawnmower in the garden shed.

In hindsight I think you have point but there are many working class people that have been made stupid because the education they had given to them was a second class(at best) failure ridden regime of failed educators

If you were a bright kid with hopefully bright parents or parent then you had a chance of achieving a great education like the elitist of our great country

Unfortunately this failure has led to the bum boy Tory government and bent banking system of corrupt government that will be ongoing and ongoing..

Just a reminder that for a hundred years the game was just as rich. Hundreds of thousands attending games week in week out from the turn of the century right through to the eighties...Minimal wages paid to players...no ground improvements...and no safety...For a hundred years a few suits in the football boardrooms grew very rich and gave nothing back to the game, I for one given the choice of players or suits getting rich will choose the players all day long.

The wages are obscene but if the players didn't get it who would ?...If Pepsi or Playstation. or whoever, want to enter into multi million pound contracts with football then it's a clear choice...suits or players...i'll go for players.

        2. Berget is reverse OOP, so you might want to pick Pedersen, who plays as astrikwr, and is 0.5 less.

I think Smolov might be out of the first game too.

Not enough Spanish in that team for my liking, they absolutely rocked qualifying with only two goals conceded and tonnes of goals, sure it was weak opposition but still.

Cheers. I already swapped Van Ginkel for Maronne but Maher looks a similar but cheaper option. Looks like Smolov might also miss the first game to be in the Senior squad for their WC qualifier v Portugal on the 7th.

Plenty of options now if I get Maher in, move Dzagoev and Smolov out.

Rodrigo is tempting but he scored 10 of his 11 goals in 3 qualifying games against fairly average or poor opposition. Don't think he's worth 12.0m on that basis.

It is yoo risky not to have him, that too against a depleted Russia side. He's explosive, as you said, so he just might score a hattrick against Russia, you never know.

I know. But I also know the spread of better players throughout the team which the captains substitutions would help me capitalise their worth. I think if I was on autosubs like FPL I'd have less wriggleroom and probably get him.

Seriously, 4 goals in a 5-0 hammering of Denmark. Not exactly an Italian defence. 3 goals in a 6-0 hammering of Estonia. Estonia ? 3 goals in a 7-2 hammering of Gerogia, no less. Scoreless in 5 of 9 qualifying games.

For Benfica he scored 10 goals in 35 games although not many full games. I think Holland, Russia and Germany will be a much tougher test for him and for Spain, with little rest between games and he won't score more than 3 in the their 3 group games. But I hope he proves me wrong.

Immobile is more likely to get higher points, but Insigne is more nailed on as he can be played everywhere including negative OOP. Not sure I'd risk Immobile.

Nobody is sure Clyne will play despite all. Dawson seems the safest bet alongside Butland, but premium prices.

Played the last qualify, but it doesnt look that likely. Could turn out to be the fantasy player of tournament as an OOP cheap defender, but the price comes at a cost. However, the major rule of U21's is that we have no real idea who will play as qualifying had a lot to do with who was available rather than best.

I have Destro, wild rover did some research and Destro is a target man, whereas the others are the nippy second strikers. As Italy play 4-4-2 it seems unlikely that he will be benched. They have 4 strikers with more than 0.5 goals per game in qualifying, Immobile, Insigne, Destro and the other bloke I have forgotten.

I'm hoping Dawson will keep up or even improve his scoring rate. Surely getting Buttland and him is wrong for two reasons.

Double bubble hit if they concede. Norway beat England France and Belgium in qualifying so they'll be nobody's whipping boys I reckon.

More importantly a cheaper Norway or Israeli keeper allows you a managers sub with a decent Group B keeper and possibly frees up some cash. Very possible that Norway will keep a CS v Israel.

Nice side. Put all your June 5th players in your 11 so managers subs will allow you change them and captain after the days play. Pick a Group B keeper that you can switch Kleyman to. If you've a million to spare swap Clyne to Dawosn, he scored 5 in qualifiers. I see you haven't developed sheeplike behaviours and been bedazzled by Zaha's United status, just 1 assist in 5 qualifying games.

      http://www.uefa.com/under21/index.html

This link is handy. Found out Norway did well against Belgium and France on the way to qualifying amongst other things so might be a surprise in a managable enough group.. And Rodrigo scored loads, 11 goals in qualification but 10 of them in 3 games !

      http://www.uefa.com/under21/season=2013/teams/player=250014558/index.html

My thinking is that his goalfests were against poor opposition with plenty of rest around those games. Group B is tough so I hope if you keep him he'll keep banging in the goals. Best of luck 🙂

but tbh, i don't quite understand this statement: "Put all your June 5th players in your 11 so managers subs will allow you change them and captain after the days play". meaning i should play my Norway players instead of the Spanish lots? aren't both June 5th & 6th are Matchday 1 fixtures? Will i get my points from the Spain players if they are on the bench?

          Sorry, summer Fantasy noob here.

If you leave your team your autosubs will replace players who don't play. But managers subs means you can, say, pick 7 from June 5th and 8 from the 6th. Pick a captain from your June 5th players. Then after that days play you can change your captain and make substitutions and put in players for June 6th from your bench. So you can do subs at the end of the day but in the same matchday.

oh, you mean i can choose which player to bring on from the June 6th players to replace missing June 5th players? What if all my June 5th players (Kleyman, Rogne, Singh) perform badly and i'm stuck with them as i can't bring on Muniesa and Grigorev/Maher? that would be a disaster.

Yip. You can sub them in after the games on June 5th with players for June 6th on your bench. That's why I reckon you should keep a balance of players over the 2 days, especially keepers from both days. If you had 10 from 5th and 5 from 6th you've only 5 newer players available, if needed. You have to keep a minimum of 3 defenders though in your final formation. Swapping captain can also be handy but captain anyone at all from the first day even if your convinced your June 6th captain will do great. Can always swap on the evening of the 5th if that captain doesn't do well and you could get lucky with your captain from the first day. You can still keep the captained player from the 5th in your 11 but move the armband to a player form the 6th.

Lads i think there's little value in the England squad when the top scorer in the qualifiers is a defender. Of course some names like Zaha missed games but he only had one assist in 5 games. Henderson looks the best value of the rest but pick them closer to the start of the tournament to get a better picture. If Lansbury was a starter I'd dfeinitely get him if I thought his form in his 4 qualifying games might be repeated.

I'd play all your players that play on the first day, then any of them with low scores you can just sub off using manager subs for players that play on the second day. that way can you can catch the surprise cs or brace from a budget player you might have otherwise missed (assuming they play on the first day)

does that make sense? as you're effectively maximizing the number of chances of getting a big haul by increasing the number of players you have playing

      rate:

      Ostbo
      Caldirola - Biraghi - Chalobah
      Canales - Johansen - Holtby - Maher
      Rodrigo - Immobile(c) - Nielsen

      DDG-Ince, Nuytinck, Ginter

      Any changes, comment?

      - I've 2 italy defence, 1 dutch, german and england each + DDG

given you can make manager subs I think you'd be better of getting someone that will play the first game as opposed to ince.

and aren't hits only like -2 anyways?

not many options , so who do you suggest?

I think I've cover all big team upfront

          canales - holtby - maher(cheap) - johansen(form)
          rodrigo(maintarget) - immobile(maintarget) - nielsen(form)

honestly i'm not playing the game so I couldn't tell you but I just think it's silly to have a player that won't play the first game when you can use manager subs and utilize a playing 15.

do you have 3 spainiards already? cuz if not maybe get another one (Isco or Thiago perhaps)

They are minus 2. But since tournament is so short, there's manager's subs and there's 1 WC and 6 FT for semis and final it'd be a waste to drop even 1 point.

yeah but I think another playing player is worth a possible 2pt hit as another player is another possible big haul that you can always manager sub out if they blank

1.5-3hrs from now. not 100% when but it should fall within that window

Very nice, actually. But I was wondering whether every club would have an interface of their own- I mean one which shows stats related to them- their scouts, managers, players bought, tokens left, etc.

Yeah, yeah, I realised that. See the comment above.
Actually, the only thing which worries me is whether some people will find it too complex. I did as well, until I read carefully - but then, I still don't understand why other teams get to know what our targets are, before we get to bid.

There are no German and Italian defenders, they are all either one or the other. Or neither.
