Premier League Fixtures Announced

The Premier League fixture list is now published and available for our perusal. We’ll be working on our fixture tickers throughout the day, with the aim to get these to you as soon as possible to offer a means of analysis of the opening six Gameweeks and, if you’re a member, the entire season.

Jose Mourinho’s second stint as Chelsea boss opens with a home game against Hull before the Blues make their way to Old Trafford in David Moyes’ first home match in charge of Man United. Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge clash with Aston Villa, scheduled for Gameweek 3, has been postponed due to European Super Cup duties – if this is moved to Gameweek 1, major investment will be on the cards from Fantasy managers.

Moyes opens his tenure with a trip to Swansea and also squares up to Liverpool at Anfield in the first month – a tricky start for the defending champions, who also entertain neighbours City in Gameweek 5. City’s opening three matches look enticing, though. Manuel Pellegrini welcomes Newcastle to the Etihad in his first game in charge before City face back-to-back matches with a couple of promoted sides – a trip to Cardiff precedes a home showdown with Hull.

Roberto Martinez’s first three games in charge at Everton suggest the Toffees could be quick out the blocks. Trips to Norwich and Cardiff, with a home match against West Brom, will afford plenty optimism from the blue half of Merseyside, while Liverpool have also been handed a decent start, aside from the home game with United.

The likes of Southampton, Spurs and West Ham all look strong investment options over the opening six Gameweeks, though Villa and Swansea have been dealt a blow. Paul Lambert’s side face Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and City in the first six, while Michael Laudrup’s men go head-to-head with United, Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal.

We plan to focus on the schedule in further detail over the next few days, with a “Frisking the Fixtures” piece rolled out soon.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

They'll be a lot more attacking. Like Ronh said, the players just didn't want to play for Mancini last season. I can see Pellegrini getting the best out of the Spanish based players - Silva, Aguero etc..

I thought he would be 10.5 min and probably 11. 107 goals in 187 games is impressive and if he moves he will be be first choice at a top 4 club so I think 11 would be justified .

Jonty mentioned this earlier, given Chelsea DGW and early fixtures it could come down to 1 big choice for a lot of players at the start of the seaon: Bale or RVP. If push comes to shove, which is the most important to you?

Yeah that's important. I think the reason why RVP was 'essential' last year was that so many of the top teams were without an in-form, consistent striker.

Thats a fair point. I'd consider an early Wild Card if it appears he is essential early on in the season. With Uniteds bad fixtures it mightn't be a bad idea to forgo RVP for a while and see how things pan out.

Fixture breaks are traditionally great times to wildcard to take advantage of price rises and deal with international injuries.

Here's the three breaks during the first half of the season.

    Weekends of ...
    Sept 7
    Oct 12
    Nov 16

That will mean breaks immediately following

I think this point is sometimes overplayed. People lose interest in tinkering over the international breaks, so the liquidity in the transfer market drains away and the price movements never seem to be as great as you think they should be over a 2-week period,

More WCers means more transfers which generally means more price movement - GW4 this year I'm sure will be the biggest - it was very much true for the equivalent international gameweek last season.

Except FPL were aware of this and altered the formula. It was bizarre how slowly players rose in international GW's last year. On some days risers were frozen entirely.

There was no formula alteration as far as I was aware - agreed that activity slowed to a crawl during the middle weekend - that's always the case. But overall it was the week when most transfers were done and I'm sure it'll be the same this year.

All I know is that there were a lot of dissatisfied people using wild cards during international breaks in the last season. They just didn't seem to be all that lucrative. Some players prices were even frozen on some days for no reason at all when they should have risen in price.

Absolutely - see below. I made 0.3m last time and I was incredibly active, bringing in the cash-cows and shipping as soon as they'd risen. Only three players who I didn't want to keep long term rose twice during the break.

So you're not counting the cash you made on the players you wanted to keep? 0.3M is actually quite a good return on disposable players if you're WCing for cash.

The first one is a great time to not only buy and sell to raise a few hundred thousand but more importantly to get the players you want while their price is relatively low.

        This shouldn't be underestimated IMO.

I'm bound to want to WC between GW4-6. I feel as if wild carding in GW7 is too late and a GW3 wild card is too early.

I used my WC in the first international break last year, purely to surf the price rises. I was glued to FISO for two gruelling weeks and managed to make a measly 0.3m

Absolutely not worth it for team value.

Spurs and Everton have larger squads so it will effect them less. That said I expect it to effect Everton as they cant realistically expect Baines to play every single minute of both competitions. 😉

Everton aren't in Europe and Spurs have decent squad depth. They didn't struggle last year in the BPL whilst in the Europa League last year and I can't see it changing, even if Bale leaves.

Everton yes to an extent, Spurs no. Spurs have a large enough squad to be able to deal with the added games and they don't usually care that much for the tournament until the knockout stages whereas Everton's squad is smaller and will probably take the tournament seriously so there results might suffer.

Even if Suarez moves you have to think that it will be Sturridge, Suarez's replacement and Aspas. You will have to hope Liverpool have learned from Andy Carroll and will attempt to improve their squad instead of spending the majority of the money on one player.
