Two intriguing fixtures in the Premier League today, effecting both ends of the table. League leaders Manchester United reignite their great rivalry against a Liverpool side desperate to get into Europe, whilst Tottenham’s European ambitions stretch as high as the Champions League spots. They visit a Wolves side well capable of beating the top teams, but find themselves struggling in a relegation battle.

As always, the Dugout Discussion chatroom is open, and the first thing to digest is the team news from Anfield…

Liverpool XI: Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Skrtel, Aurelio, Gerrard, Lucas, Kuyt, Meireles, Maxi, Suarez.

Man United XI: Van der Sar, Rafael Da Silva, Smalling, Brown, Evra, Nani, Carrick, Scholes, Giggs, Berbatov, Rooney.

The headline team news for the hosts is that £35 million January signing, Andy Carroll, makes the substitutes bench for the first time in a Liverpool shirt. Kenny Dalglish opts for four defenders at the back, with Luis Suarez leading the line up front.

The visitors reinstate the Premier League’s top scorer to their starting eleven, with Javier Hernandez replacing the Bulgarian on the pine. Another once regular starter is back in the team after a couple of games on the touchline, as Rafael da Silva gets the nod ahead of John O’Shea.

The Dugout Discussion will stay open right up until the hotly anticipated bonus points are distributed.

            Coz he's really bright. 🙂

I dunno - he's only 13 months, and I'll feel guilty about pushing him towards a life of supporting a team that will never do much (anything?) in Europe.

All my wife's family are Spurs fans, so I think he'll soon be sneaking along to the Lane with his uncle or grandfather...

He's already got a better left foot than Crouch.

Lol, My old man was never into footie so I followed my Grandads team, took a lot of stick because most people supported Liverpool or Everton even tho I lived a few miles outside London.

My lad is Spurs too, he's 4 & will hopefully have a lot more to cheer about than i did ...

Crouch is a nightmare, if we could just play him in European games I could cope with that, our poor strikers have really cost us this season

Only saving grace is that my captain hasn't played yet, but I'm going to need a Kuyt like performance from him tomorrow to save my season.

your season almost depends on it unless valencia performs a miracle comeback like hitzlsperger. you could see the gash in his leg so hopefully there's no little fracture under it. carragher was lucky, when graeme souness says it's a red you know it's a red.

yeah the medical professional who's paid to make a decision whether he's fine to continue probably went along with the joke too.
when he rememstrated to the ref he was hoping on his good leg then when he made his point rightly dropped back down again. if you genuinely believe he was acting i'm sorry but you are a moron

Of course he knows what it feels like: an innocuous challenge from Kirk Broadfoot fractured Nani's ankle this season alone.

You also have to be careful who you are pointing your finger at. It is not SAF who told Roy Keane to go and break Alfie's leg - it was Keane himself who took that decision and as a City fan I do not blame Ferguson. A manager can instill a degree of discipline and respect in the team but cannot prevent instances of that nature. He can discipline after it though.

I may be wrong, but utd usually have a pretty decent disciplinary record.

Horrid tackle by Carragher today. But doen't presume to know what top flight managers think or how they operate. That's why they do what they do and we post on here.

If Nani had stayed down and got stretched off, everyone on here would just be talking about the animal Caragher and his leg-breaker of a tackle, how it should have been a straight red etc. It was Nani's odd heat-of-the-moment behaviour which sent everyone here into a frenzy. Let's face it, it doesn't take much for people to start laying into Nani. Ultimately it looked a nasty injury, and it could have been a lot worse.

That's how I saw it, Jimnas... Carra's studs to Nani's knee-- hard to tell what was up and the pain level. I played football for 10 minutes with a completely torn achilles tendon-- then to hospital and out for 4 months, but must admit didn't shed a tear. Some injuries are just incredibly painful.

Nani is dramatic and a bit selfish, which is why I am not his great fan.

I'm not a big fan of Nani as a person or Utd. as a team but that tackle was horrendous and he was clearly badly hurt and his reaction was totally justified, you can do crazy things when in shock.

SAF has ordered MUFC staff and players not to talk to anyoen in the media.... wonder how long this will last for?
Personally, i think the fans deserve someone to come forward and provide a reaction to a really poor performance in a key match.

I agree with Adam as his closest challenger - but he has a temperament problem which his owner have to live with. It's rare that you find a Gary Lineker who will be fantasy gold and never get booked!

depending on the next month, the only possible are Tevez, Kompnay, Nasri or VDV. No one else can possibly win it over him.

That could be a good point for the few seconds before they showed the slow mo replay from another angle which then showed what a shocking tackle it was, if anyone was slagging him after the replay then they are peinarses.
