Manchester United have confirmed Nani’s injury following the winger’s withdrawal in the 3-1 loss at the hands of Liverpool today, reporting that the midfielder suffered “a very deep gash” in his leg.

A wild challenge by Jamie Carragher just before half time saw Nani eventually stretchered from the Anfield proceedings and the player will be assessed tomorrow morning at the club’s training ground. A time on the sidelines would see the player transferred out in significant numbers- not only is he the top-scoring Fantasy Premier League player this season, he is far and away the top-owned, with an incredible 48% of all Fantasy Managers having him in their sides. Until any further information is forthcoming, however, perhaps it’s best to hold fire before considering the repercussions.

Nani’s peculiar behaviour – pursuing referee Phil Dowd before tearfully crumbling to the turf following the brutal Carragher lunge- initially left many perplexed and questioning the severity of the injury. Subsequent reports of a media blackout and suspect photographs left the incident feeling more like the making of a Film Noire than the outcome of a football match.

The Red Devils supposedly issued a media embargo, allegedly in reaction to the loss, and screenshots of the wound are flying around the Twittersphere (with one certainly more questionable than the other) as we speak.

The club’s next league match is due to take place on Saturday 19th March at home to Bolton, though as Andy has recently pointed out, if next weekend’s FA Cup tie with Arsenal ends in a draw, the replay would take precedent over the Bolton game, meaning United would have a blank gameweek 30. Given that their gameweek 31 match is not due to take place until Saturday 2nd April, Nani may not miss any league time at all.

Hopefully the club will be more forthcoming tomorrow and you can be sure we’ll post any more information if and when it appears.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

Didnt the same thing happen to a Slovak (gash on the top of the knee) in the World Cup, and he was fixed and he kept on playing?

The Nani crying like a 4 year old was a very weird thing.

In fairness to Rafael, there was a nasty lunge at him a split second before his challenge which no-one seems to have mentioned

Looked more like high boot rather than a nasty lunge. Foul maybe but i wouldn't have given a card for that.

+10000000000. This is Fantasy FOOTBALL dammit! Believe it or not, most of the world outside of the UK and certain abused former colonies haven't the slightest interest in cricket (although I must admit that it's a sure cure for insomnia). If you guys don't stop, I and my friends will start posting topics on American collegiate Lacrosse and Canadian moose wrestling.

I've been feeling guilty this season about paying more attention to fantasy than to United.

After 2 sh*t results and the way i feel, I definitely know where my loyalty is. I'd trade all my mini-league winnings into those 6 points back.

Once I cheer up I'll probably laugh about how mental Rafael is despite being the size of a garden gnome. And about how once those two develop fully:-

        Raf Vid Rio Fab

Rio will be in a museum by the time Fabio takes Evra's spot.

Throw in Smalling into there instead and that is still a pretty heavyweight backline, though it is now anyway - with Vidic in there it's a given.

    Question:

Does a defender get a CS if he doesn't start, but comes on as a sub and plays 60+ minutes and during his time on the pitch the opposition doesn't score, even though they score when he wasn't on the pitch?

I agree that tackle was awful, however nani brings it on himself from his history of acting, crying wolf, telling all how great he is and just being a bit a clown in general. He sure did look like a girl but IF the pic I just saw online is legitimate then I'm sure it would have most internet warriors in tears too.

Regardless of how much the tackle hurt, how much adrenaline was pulsing through his veins, etc, Nani CRIED. I don't mean got teary-eyed, he was sobbing. It was a pretty pitiful sight, and I can't help but think he was simply trying to gain sympathy from the referee. Why else would he run over to be in the ref's line of sight? If he was truly hurt, he would've sat in his sorry little heap and done the whining there.

Even more confusing when you consider it's a gash, not a muscle or ligament injury and United's next EPL match isn't for another 2 weeks - or 4 weeks if they draw with Arsenal next weekend.

    Morning folks,

How do you reckon Chelsea vs Man City is going to pan out? I've got Tevez, Silva and Kolarov and wondering who to bench.

Similarly I have 3 Stoke & 2 Newcastle players. Stoke have been very poor away recently but better at home, Newcastle have been better away but really unpredictable.

If it's any help to you I'm getting rid of Kolarov.

Since I've had him (several months now) I've had a 6, an 11 and about a dozen 1's.

This weekend was the last straw. Djourou is going to be a welcome addition to my team in his place.

Silva looks like he may outscore Tevez over the last 9 games of the season.

I'm going to say that the real problem that was shown from the Nani incident:

    1. Negligent officiating
    2. Dangerous play

I understand that Nani gets a lot of grief for sometimes childish antics or diving, but the underlying issue is why? Fast/slim players like Nani (and Ronaldo when he played in the EPL) are constantly hacked at. It's bad for the game, and it pushes entertaining players away from the game.

Opposing teams intend to play "physically" against players like Nani, and so Nani's counter-measure (disagreeable or not) is to milk fouls and cards.

Opposing teams will push Nani as much as the refs will let them. And today you saw that culminate in a tackle that appears to have caused serious injury. An unprovoked, malicious and dangerous tackle, which even more concerningly was left unpunished. That tackle deserved an instant red card and long term (probably 6 - 12 week) ban.

There seems to be a fairly peverse "tough" culture in British football, whereby "diving" players are fair game for all sorts of assaults.

Anyway, English football is heading the way of Diouf and De Jong rather than Fabregas and Ronaldo.

It certainly was an awful tackle and should have been a red without question.

Yeah, the issue I have with Carragher's is that it was potentially more dangerous (high chance of leg fracture, whereas Rooney's was unsporting with a low chance of injury).

I would say Rooney is far worse. Carra/Nani is at least an attempt to get to the ball from Carra. Rooneys behaviour seems completely out of the blue.
Rooney not getting the red there may be one of the biggest mistake by a ref this season, if Clattenbrug actually saw what happened that is.

    FPL Open Update

678 entered so far, top seed 20th, 64th seed 1900, last automatic qualifier 64413.

    Two ways to qualify.

    1) Have a rank below 60000 at least & hope you finish in the top 448 after GW29.

    2) Get a nice green arrow this week & qualify by being one of 60+ teams to qualify due to their GW29 score. Only 1 ranked over 1 million can qualify at best.

    Hi Guys

    I am absolutely gutted.
I am no longer playing Fantasy Football as the system has robbed me.

Why wasn't Nani given points for that wonderful assist?
He also deserved full bonus points for his acting performance.

    YNWA!!!

I agree with the sentiment above About cricket posts. In the same way can all the whiney man utd fans please find another forum to complain. You lose a couple of games and you are blaming both reds, the opposition and anyone else you can mention. Your manager and rooney should both have been banned this week.

You don't see anyone else on here complaining how man utd turned footy into a marketing product. Something to think about on the drive to work in Essex.

    Up the wolves
