We wanted to post this before deadline this morning but, due to our technical issues, we were unable to take that opportunity. Rather than waste the chance to embarrass ourselves, however, we thought we’d stick these up this evening, regardless.

Last season many of us were left red-faced thanks to our terrible predictions for the 2012/13 season.

I was left particularly embarrassed with my now laughable assertion that Charles N’Zogbia would be last season’s best differential. Meanwhile Granville’s predictions that Sam Alladyce would be the first boss to bite the bullet and Shinji Kagawa would be the season’s top assister also failed to materialise.

Credit though went to Anorak for correctly predicting that Michu would be the year’s star budget midfielder. Hard to believe the attacking midfielder was initially priced at just 6.5m at the start of last season. Mark’s prediction that Rickie Lambert would shine in the budget forward category also proved correct.

But enough of last year, here’s our thoughts on the season ahead for you to bookmark and use to embarrass/congratulate us as the season progresses.

Moderator Evs knows all about Top 5s, he was a top 5 player at the end the FPL 2012/13 season and was even in with a shout of winning the competition on the final day. Will his experience reap dividends when it comes to predicting the 2013/14 season?

Applebonkers’ bonus point predicting powers left us mesmerised last season, but will we be similarly impressed this season with his predictions for Premier League and FPL success? Yeah, in the 12/13 Prem season Lukaku had a slightly better strike rate, keeping in mind that WBA scored just 56 goals while Man U hit 83.

So we now have our first real stats for the new bonus system. It's on a much lower scale than the PPI system, which means the top ranked players in each game will all be bunched up around each other and the baps will get shared around far more players.

From the 7 matches played today:

    - Average for all players, BPS score: 3.7; PPI score 12.1
    - Average for all players with at least 60 minutes, BPS score: 4.2; PPI score: 14.3
    - For players earning 3 baps: average BPS score: 11.4; average PPI score: 31.9
    - For players earning 2 baps: average BPS score: 9.3; average PPI score: 29
    - For players earning 1 bap: average BPS score: 7.6; average PPI score: 17.5
    - Range of BPS scores which earned 3 baps: 8 (Hangeland, Cole, Nolan) up to 20 (Welbeck)
    - Range of BPS scores which earned 2 baps: 7 (Hughes, Kasami) up to 17 (RVP)
    - Range of BPS scores which earned 1 bap: 7 (Szczesny, Clark, Hernandez, O'Brien, Reid) up to 10 (Whittaker)
    - Highest BPS score without earning baps: 8 (Fonte)

To a degree this is based on whether games are high or low scoring, but even here there are some anomalies. E.g. the Sunderland/Fulham and West Brom/Southampton games both finish 1-0. Hangeland and Fonte both get a BPS score of 8, but Hangeland gets the maximum baps and Fonte goes unrewarded.

I don't think this helps anyone, it was a nice curiosity to see who they picked and who ends up giving up. But trying to encourage trolling and abuse like changing team names will only damage the reputation of FFS.
