This season’s Big Numbers articles for members will follow on from the weekend’s action as always, with new contributor, “In Tommy We Trust”, taking up the editorial reins. Tommy takes we take a look at the data gathered from the weekend’s action in the members’ area as both Merseyside clubs register impressive attacking statistics, while casting an analytical eye over a handful of forwards from Saturday and Sunday’s matches.
Pochettino led Espanyol to the 5th best defensive record in La Liga in his 2nd full season in charge, just wish I'd have followed the stats and last seasons form and doubled up.
Done Mert > Shaw already. On the same note Boruc 4.5 mil & a 4 mil bench warmer will be worth it all season IMO.Open ControlsAgreed. Trusting SOT and went 4.0 with Boruc and Shaw start of the season.
Open ControlsIt sounds Mark is also moving in that direction.
Boruc+Shaw+Lamb/Osvaldo for me. Soon.Open Controls
thanks. useful post that.
Open ControlsWhen Pochettino first took over, after looking into his Espanyol record, I said it was a great appointment and that they would improve. Posted this on here and got shot down by everyone saying Adkins didn't deserve to go, they would go down etc.
They look a good outfit to me, capable of a top half finish this season. Not sure about Boruc every week though, Boruc/Foster for me, there's enough funds to not have to play a goalie against the top clubs where he's bound to concede.Open ControlsWe're they bound to beat city, liverpool and Chelsea last year?
Open ControlsThey were great results, but they did concede in all 3, so Boruc and Shaw wouldn't have raked in many points.
Only 3 CS's under Pochettino last season I think? That said, I do think they'll improve defensively, just not enough to play every week.Open Controls
I went Boruc-Foster too, but a bit worried about West Brom... painful having Boruc and Shaw on the bench this week.
Open ControlsI started with Cech over Foster but with the intention of downgrading to him next week.
Thought Cech was too good to miss out on and worked well so far.
Think West Brom will do ok, they did concede late.Open Controls
who would you get in for lukaku...
soldado, lambert, sturridge or benteke..???Open ControlsMignolet - Davis

Just paid my membership - figured it was time to give back from all the free advice I've received over the past couple of years. Also - was awesome start to the season, was able to see parts of 8 of the 9 games through NBC's online service in the US.

Not confident of winning my H2H
Me (A) : Silva, Hazard (c), Ivanovic
Them (B) : Aguero, Cole (c) +1 point. Who Wins? ThoughtsOpen ControlsGotta love the average position maps in the members area. Jack Cork is actually closer to the goal line than Boruc. 😯
Ok, he only played the last minute and was probably chasing a ball out of play down by the corner flag but it made me chuckle. 😆Open ControlsKomps. Would go Walker before Vertonghen.
Open ControlsVertonghen could be bonus magnet this season though? You would really go Walker over Vert if both were same price?
Open ControlsI think Komps will be a BAP magnet too. Possibly not if they were the same price but I think Walker will have a very good season. Can see him outscoring Vert.
Open Controls
Got to be Kompany, clean sheets will outscore Vert's goal threat long term.
Open Controls
who to get in for koscelny.... shaw or toure???

What to do with this team... Thinking Lukaku out is the obvious transfer but is it worth taking any hits as well?
Boruc
Clichy Toure Chester
Hazard Walcott Coutinho Mirallas
Giroud Dzeko Lukaku
Subs - Cech Ward Williams Kosicelny
0.5 in the bankOpen ControlsThat midfield will score, this week was a blip. Keep it. Depending upon Dzeko starting I think 1 of the strikers will have to go, who that is, is a very tough question.
Open Controls
So Vertonghen scored home and away vs. the Swans last season. Just saying.
Open ControlsHe didn't look fit yest.

How many weeks will Barkley last before being thrown back on the bench?

Just my 2 cents on a subject, tl;dr etc etc
Arsene Wenger is Arsenal’s most successful manager of all-time, bought stability and totally refreshed the team, and people want to fire him? Reminds me a few years ago when Ferguson was having a bad run of games people were calling for his head, why are people so fickle?
Arsenals are one of very few clubs that work with a profit (they make money) and many envy the stability, especially in an age where we have seen the likes of Leeds United, Portsmouth, Wimbledon, QPR, Southampton (they’ve come back), Crystal Palace, Hull, Rangers, Coventry… (I could go on) nose dive as a result of their financial stupidity.
I hate the Arsenal fans that are now calling for his contract not to be renewed past May 2014, I love the passion they are now showing after all the years of being somewhat arm chair fans, but this is perhaps ignorant and unaware of the bigger picture.
They are right to be fuming that the club sold so many players and brought in just one, and started the season with just 11 fit players.
Also right to be angry that the club appears to be sitting idle on a reported cash balance of £150 plus million, especially as they have now failed to win any silverware in eight years.
They have a right to complain because the tickets they buy are among the most expensive in the world to watch a club side.
But to be fair, none of the top clubs, with the exception of Manchester City, have got transfer their business done early this summer. And having one side ways glance £50 million failure Fernando Torres still taking pot shots against Hull or Liverpool’s loss of Stewart Downing and Andy Carroll to West Ham should tell you that spending big isn’t always the answer to life’s problems.
Wenger has his policies, and they’re sustainable and I doubt he is going to be bowing to the pressure of the crazy clubs around him. Ultimately Arsenal will be better off in the long term and fans should appease themselves with the knowledge that class is permanent and form is temporary.
The 3-1 drumming was just one match, still have a minimum 37 to go. Hopefully this will be the catalyst for more balance at the club in terms of spending money and competitive investment. There are also two weeks left in the transfer window for this phase not to be considered a calamity just yet.Open ControlsAre you Arsene Wenger?
Open Controls
I will read it anyway, but why is it so hard to create paragraphs?
Open Controlsnot an arsenal fan but fair points made.
don't forget though that arsene proves to be really tight when spending. he is not willing to give an extra 2m from the price he had in mind. with the available cash he has he should have signed a couple of players until now. I was really admiring him in having a good team with tight budget because of the clubs policy but now he has the cash he is out of excuses. higuain, fellaini and so many other players linked with arsenal.
I wouldn't imagine that someone will hold it against him if he went for benteke and offered 25m-30m for example. he seems stubbrn and that the problem.Open ControlsArsenal fans are frustrated that no money has been spent and no big name has come in and sadly wenger is to blame
Open ControlsSome points you made that I agree with and some that I don't. If you spent around 20% (Or more) of your salary as I and many others do in travelling up and down the country to support them your opinion might be slightly different and less forgiving.
What has happened at Arsenal over the Summer has been nothing short of an absolute disaster that could have easily been avoided.Open ControlsI have to agree that their summer spening (or lack of) have been awful. When most of the top clubs are trying to make sure they have 2 decent signings for each position Wenger seems to like the idea of just having a decent starting XI. As soon as players get injured, as they have, it shows how little depth Arsenal have.
Open Controls
We have no squad players, and the goalkeeper and defence is in tatters with what we have got. Wenger says there is no quality but there clearly is.
Open Controlshe always says in press conferance who shall i buy tell me who is available and i will buy? But yet never seems to get anyone in
Its stupid letting some in the class of higauin go then failing to get suarez imo wenger should have just bid 50 mill arsenal fans dont care as long as we get the quality only wenger seems to care about money
I mean a 10 milll bid for cabaye surely arsene knows it will get rejectedOpen Controls
LOL this a dumb post. i think fans have the right to want the manager out who hasnt brought them a trophy in almost a decade. also he sells his best players which he has a hand in ex rvp. and he never buys world classs players. brings in giroud for rvp lmaoooo
Open ControlsSome good points but clearly something is going wrong at Arsenal in terms of buying players - for the second season in a row it will be last minute emergency shopping. At the same time, Wenger inflames the frustration by saying there is no one available, when even lower down the league clubs including Tottenham and Southampton are buying happily. Personally I think Arsenal need someone to replace David Dein and wheel and deal in the market - don't think they have anyone there who is up to it and if they leaving it to Wenger he is too stretched and possibly a bit out of touch.
Open ControlsBecause this is the 3rd year in a row we have gone into a season unprepared!
Our back line finished Jenkinson-Ramsey-Mertz-Podolski. That is unacceptable.
And because Arsenal fans are tired of the lies.
If a 10 year old was playing FIFA career mode, they wouldn't be stupid enough to let their ranks get so thin. Luiz Gustavo was available, wanted to come to Arsenal, but instead went to a team that finished 11th in the Bundesliga. Countless targets going elsewhere because Wenger or the board are cheap.
We don't know who to blame, because there is no transparency. These fake transfer targets of Rooney and Suarez are just insulting.
We don't want rid of Wenger, we want Wenger to spend, but if he doesn't spend, then we should get rid of him. He earns £7m a year, Klopp earns about £1m a year. Get him in.Open ControlsWenger is on £134k a week? Wow! That seems a lot for a manager
Open Controls
Arsenal have more cash in the bank than almost all the other 19 clubs in the league put together.
They could certainly afford to splash out a bit moreOpen ControlsOne of the issues is that this is all to familiar. This seems to happen every year now. There is obviously major transfer issues, they are living off a clever budget that is simply no longer necessary for them. I honestly think when it comes to transfers they have run out of ideas. They have no longer got that cutting edge. So many teams are streets ahead of them in that regard, especially Spurs and Swansea. But then no one has the quality for Arsenal apparently.
Open ControlsChelsea and Man U don't have to get business done early because they have talented thick squads. We have a very thin squad and need to buy quality AND squad players. After boasting about out cash balance in the media we have shot ourselves in the foot by waiting this long. Teams will take advantage of our desperate bids to sign players in the forthcoming two weeks and that's simply down to Wenger not buying sooner. Also if he did buy sooner, we may have 3 points already and ready to play vs Fernabahce. We are in Dire straits.

Referee Anthony Taylor dropped. @FA (the ref from the Arsenal match)
Open Controlslink or hope?
Open Controls
I just don't get why people are rushing their transfers with the season 3 days old and the first gw not even finished.
All for a measly 0.1m. Did you guys not read to previous winners interviews?
*shakes headOpen Controlswhen you have 0 in the bank and want RVP in for lukaku by week 4, that 0.1 can make all the difference 😛
Open Controls^ True.
Open ControlsAhh.
Well that's why I'm WC.Open ControlsThis. Coleman's potential price rise tonight is prob gonna force me into a transfer.
Open ControlsListen or read spidermat's (last year overall no1) interview...
"Do not on a player that scored big the one week. Odds are he wont do it next week".Open ControlsTrue, I see his point. But I've got a plan to get in RVP for GW4 and need a 5mill or less defender for Ivan to do it so if Coleman goes up 0.1 then i'm fecked. I suppose I could be patient and get in Shaw or something. What would u do?
Open Controls(My original plan was to do Lukaku -> Soldado this week, Ivan -> 5mill next week, and Dzeko -> RVP in gw4 for no hit)
Open ControlsYou have Mirralas. Get Shaw and save 500k.
Just look at South fixtures 4-7
WEST/livp/CRYS/SWANS
I'm doubling up with Boruc + ShawOpen ControlsYeah it makes sense doesn't it.
Soldado it is then (most probably)
Tbh, I can see Ivan getting a cleanie and a goal this week anyway 😉
Nice score this week, btw...Open Controls
I'm saving my transfer.
Open ControlsEasy to say that when you have had a decent start with 60pts.
Open ControlsDecent? I'm disappointed.
I can't see how even a shite start would be a reason to do a early trsfr,Open ControlsAye Christina, I am seeing some very good teams shoe-horning transfers in. Long term they will do well, they were just not so hot gw 1.
Open ControlsDisappointment is all relative. You're a bit disappointed you didn't go for Mignolet/Cole (as I seen in previous comments).
Others have far bigger FF worries to deal with in their team and some of their proposed changes require urgency as that 0.1m can make all the difference to their plans as Aflickering said above.
IMO a decent start give you some security and the luxury to wait. A bad start usually means you have changes to make and 0.1m can make all the difference.Open Controls
I usually do too many transfers, but am content to stick for now. If Evs says that is the way to go, I am sticking.
Open Controls
Where's your link to Dzeko being injured?
Open Controls
hiya folks,
any new 4.0 defenders been discovered on GW1? i know whittaker's getting a lot of interest but is he likely to carry on starting?Open Controlsno, just promoted teams have that players i think.
Open Controls
Ok. This is the game
1. Pick a club to win each weekend
2. Once you use them, you cant use them again.
3. £10 entry
4. 50 players
5. If you get 1 wrong, you are OUT
6. Last man standing wins £500
I went Chelsea this week.
Easy win vs Hull, so still in.
Who would you go next?
Looking at weeks 3-4, the Manchester clubs need to be saved for then I think.Open ControlsCrystal Palace or Hull - I'd take Crystal, Stoke looked miserable
Don't take the easy ones to start... find the good matchups for the bottom of the table... clear those hurdles early and you'll have a clearer path.Open Controls
Boruc, Shaw and Clyne - who's with me?

"Chelsea 8 (Torres 3′ Luiz 29′ Ivanovic 34′ Lampard 58′ Ramires 75′, 90′ Oscar 79′ (pen) Hazard 83′).

I'd take a repeat of this, preferably with Benteke getting a consolation for the villainsOpen ControlsWhat to do with this lot ??
Boruc
Clyne Turner Collins
Hazard Mirallas Walcott Kim Sigurdsson
RVP Lambert
4.0 Lukaku JT Ward
0.0 in the bankOpen ControlsIs it worthing getting RVP for my team? In trying to keep my big mids and strikers I would have to reduce my entire defence to 4.5 each (maybe one 5 Def), otherwise for that price I could keep or even better my team while getting any striker for even as high as 11? Thoughts? If I should get someone else who should it be?
My team:
Cech l Boruc
Olsson l Dawson l Ivanovic l Toure l Collins
Hazard l Zaha l Coutinho l Mirallas l Snodgrass
Bony l Soldado l Anelka
[1.5 in bank]Open Controlsdont worry about persie for a while. aguero for 11 maybe, nice couple of games coming up for him
Open Controls
I would love for Silva to look really good today without getting those points.
Open ControlsIt's a very real possibility. He did it enough times last season.
Open Controls
Morning lads.
Open Controlsplease can someone confirm when the international breaks are?
Open Controlsany love for michu
i thought he was very unlucky on saturdayOpen ControlsWhen Swansea's fixtures pick up, definitely.
Open Controls
So, I will be watching this city game with great interest tonight.
- I have a particular eye on Negredo as my next trade in, and also and/if Dzeko will be utilised.
- What sort of shape Pell will play, and in particular how Zab will be used (btw, he just signed a new 4yr contract, today!)
- Navas v Silva.
Interesting game this for fpl potential given City's promising fixtures...Open Controls
