Monitor – David Silva

Having failed miserably to defend their title last time out, City’s decision to install Manuel Pellegrini at the helm is a deliberate move away from the more conservative approach favoured by Roberto Mancini. The Chilean’s summer acquisition of forwards Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic, however, while good news for City fans, has led to fears that the up-front rest and rotation policy so favoured by Mancini will once again rear its head.

With a goal and assist over the first couple of Gameweeks, David Silva has thrown his hat in the ring as a real alternative route into an attack that has already racked up six goals – more than any other side in the top-flight. The little Spaniard affords a far greater security of game time, with his creativity crucial to creating chances for Pellegrini’s frontmen and ahead of a home clash with Hull, his Fantasy bandwagon is in overdrive as Eden Hazard and Juan Mata owners look to the City playmaker as a premium midfield alternative.

In this latest article for members, we analyse Silva’s performances so far. Check on his progress compared to last season and assess his credentials at the most sought-after midfielder in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game ahead of the weekend’s fixtures.

        Hi IT,

Ok in a nutshell I love Silva as a player but he has this habit of being consistent but never explosive.

        - goal threat is small for a 9+ midfielder. Even in that patch of 2011, his goals were largely due to howlers by the keepers. Someone like Ivan, Terry or Vidic could get 5+ goals, which is about what I'd expect of Silva.
        - new bonus system. With PPI it was a double edged sword in his favour as defenders scores were generally capped at 6 and he was always able to nab a bonus with his ususal assist and clean sheet point. Now it's a case of the opposite.

Ohhhh this is really putting the cat among the pigeons in my WC team. I was just starting to be talked around but in the back of my mind, I keep saying he is not comparable to Walcott or Michu in that premium range.

I avoided him last season too. He has looked far more attacking in the first two games though and with premium midfield options thin on the ground, he seems worth getting. I've just swapped Coutinho out to get him in.

Surely, you can afford him alongside the defenders you need.

£9.5m-£10m I suspect. Would be very tempted if he walks straight into team, would circumvent the midfield chaos at Chelski. Lambo, lookout, your time may be up...

Super sub appearances I would imagine, although seeing as Jose seemingly dislikes Lukaku and Ba then maybe he will play a lot more.

I'm wildcarding soon, and will be looking to get some 'big hitting defenders' in. I will definitely be getting Vidic, but was wondering which of the following options are the best value. I am looking at them to be season keepers. Who you you think is best value?:

    A) Baines (assuming he stays at everton)
    B) Evra
    C) Vertonghen
    D) Ivanovic
    E) Kompany

do you think terry is nailed on? More or less so than Ivanovic? I agree that if he play regularly he will be a great option.

He's looked great this season and Mourinho loves him but Chelsea will have a long season and Terry may be rested so It's better to wait and see with him I guess. Sorry that wasn't very helpful 😛

Is Willian as good as they say? As good as De Bruyne?

Not according to one Beeb poster...

'Tyler Fury: So happy we missed out on Willian! He looks woeful, happy with Lamela!..Spurs look strong, just need to improve mentality.'

Think that may be a little mis-paced.

          OK Champ, just did, ta.

Had to ditch one, had the full 15, but what the heck I say, changing minds is not only a woman's prerogative. 🙂

The way Coleman has started attack-wise, him. In fact, made that very switch this week.

The fingers are firmly crossed, in that regard.

Coleman doesn't do 10 week loans. He's there for the season or not at all.

I asked this question on the last thread, but didnt get chance to debate it.

The RVP / Non RVP route.

If you go the Non RVP route, would you have any Man U cover at all?

The thought of Tekkers / Sturidge / Soldado with a midfield behind of Walcot, Silva, Nolan, Oscar, is very appealing, but I'm worried about lack of Man U.
