Daniel Sturridge fails to recover from a thigh problem and is out of England’s upcoming match with Ukraine. Luis Suarez bags a brace for Uruguay, Victor Moses is amongst the goals for Nigeria, while David Luiz and Ramires feature for Brazil as Oscar misses out with an ankle knock:

Sturridge Out of Ukraine Match

Daniel Sturridge’s Fantasy owners were given further reason for concern after the forward was
ruled out of England’s qualifier against Ukraine on Tuesday evening. The Liverpool man has failed to recover in time from the thigh problem that had been bothering him prior to last weekend’s win over United and yesterday’s news will raise question marks over his availability for the Reds’ next league fixture away to Swansea.

The Scout Says: Although the Gameweek 4 trip to the Liberty doesn’t take place until Monday September 16, Sturridge’s propensity for picking up injuries is a real concern. Last season, he was sidelined at Chelsea with a hamstring injury, while a groin strain hampered his number of starts with the Merseysiders. Frustratingly, this comes at a time where he’s turning in the most prolific performances of his career – grabbing the match-winner in each of the first three league matches. With an enticing run of games up next for Brendan Rodgers’ side, the bandwagon was in overdrive but has now comes to a standstill on the back of his omission – given that Luis Suarez is back for Gameweek 6, Rodgers may decide to take it easy with Sturridge in order to prevent further injury. The arrival of Victor Moses could also see Iago Aspas pushed into the lone forward role, with Philippe Coutinho switching from the left flank into “the hole” behind Aspas, should Rodgers choose to court caution. Both Suarez and Moses were in action last night for their international sides and the duo found the net – Moses grabbed Nigeria’s second against Malawai while Suarez notched both Uruguay’s goals in a win away to Peru.

Luiz and Ramires Star for Samba Boys

Chelsea pair Ramires and David Luiz both featured in Brazil’s 6-0 drubbing over Australia. Ramires, in the side for the injured Oscar, got himself on the scoresheet and earned an assist, while Luiz came through an hour before being replaced.

The Scout Says: Having started in the Super Cup clash with Bayern Munich, Luiz would now see firmly in the frame to figure in Jose Mourinho’s Premier League lineup when domestic matters reconvene for Gameweek 4’s trip to Everton. It was John Terry who made way against Bayern and it remains to be seen how Mourinho will juggle his defence come Saturday’s tea-time kick-off. Luiz would seem set to figure in Brazil’s friendly with Portugal on Tuesday before flying back to join up with the Blues’ squad. He has dropped to 6.3 from 6.5 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, representing a viable saving for the 31% who currently hold Branislav Ivanovic. Terry, meanwhile, is owed by over 5% of FPL managers who will doubtless be looking to the Goodison teamsheet with some trepidation. However, having been fully rested over the break, Terry could well be restored against the Toffees with both Gary Cahill and Luiz seeing minutes for their respective countries. Meanwhile, Oscar’s reported ankle injury, reportedly sustained in training with Brazil, will make him an early doubt for Saturday’s clash – perhaps opening the door for Juan Mata’s first league start of the season.

That doesn't mean anything, no point moving Soldado right now, his fixtures are improving. RVP could still blank against palace. That doesn't mean United have to lose, other people could get the goals.

I would fancy Utd to score plenty at home to Palace with RVP getting among the goals.

Not sure Spurs will do the same to Norwich. They should, but Utd and RVP appear to have the fixture more likely to yield a high score for those respective strikers.

i know, i'm thinking more long term too, soldado and spurs do not look like a high scoring team right now, i think the penalties just helped people keep him longer

It's not only Soldado v RVP really, it's Soldado + a 9M mid v RVP and a 5M mid for example... None of them get too much from their teams at the moment, but I think Spurs have more chance improving in the next couple of weeks, and they also have very nice fixtures.

If you're in a mini league with 10 other people, where not a single one has RVP, what would you say is the right thing to do: get him or go with the same value-striker-strategy?

I have exactly enough in bank to go Soldado->RVP without a hit. And I am currently on top of the league.

    Cheers, everyone.

If you want a sticky, make sure you are well known in these parts, or don't even bother.

Start off with an insightful statement.

    Try listing some fixtures.

    FUL, ars, EVE, swa, WBA

Put some player names in there and DO NOT forget to include their prices.

    Silva 9.4
    Coutinho 9.0
    HBA 7.0
    Flamini 5.0

If you think your comment is long enough for a sticky, you're wrong.

    Add some more.

    Waffle on for a bit.

    Go on, carry on talking.

    That should do.

End with a strong conclusion. Walcott over Flamini, or something like that. Sound confident about it.

Sit back and wait for your post to turn green.

Another observation is the "feel good" factor just like movies.

For example, at this point in time if you convince people that RVP is not really required or this is the right time to WC or 433 is the way to go, you're increasing your chance of going green.

I like your post advice mallard but I can't see it going for hot topic status yet

You need to mention more stats and some dodgy maths in your backline

Need a few big hitters in midfield:
At least the tried and tested mention of 'center backs will be rewarded under the new baps' , followed by yet another rehash of the rvp/non rvp debate. Also talk about how ozil lamela and eriksen are all essential, even though two of them haven't played in the premiership yet and the other for about 15 minutes.

Like your front line though mate.

Surely england can easily reach euro semis with the team we have?
    Hart

    Glen johnson cahill jagielka cole
    Gerrard lampard wilshere
    Walcott rooney sturridge

Going 4-3-3 we'll smash it against weak teams

Or we can go 4411 with walcott and milner on the wings welbeck up top and rooney behind

    Or even 4231

Only germany can be that and spain if they get passing going and we can't smash through them

So, this GJ news (out for maybe 10 weeks).

Earlier this week, Applebonkers raised the possibility that Rodgers might be aiming at a three-at-the-back. Evidence for this was basically that he seems to have too many good centre backs and that he has tried it a few times before with Liverpool and Swansea.

Might GJ's injury force his hand? This irritated Toure owner hopes so. On the other hand, those experiments were pretty disastrous so this Mignolet owner might not really want it.

That's the simple solution, yes. But I don't think everyone shares your belief in Wisdom. And if he'd been thinking of 3-5-2 or some such, now might be the time to give it a whirl.

I'd like to think so. But as I say, those experiments led to conceding goals so he might have given up on it.

It's a decent team, don't rush in and make changes/WC.

If you desperately want RVP you could downgrade sonewhere and upgrade Aguero, but you obviously thought about going without RVP and have a great line up up top, so keep faith. RVP also hasn't really been setting the world alight, so like myself, enjoy the variety and balance you have and just hope he doesn't bang a hat trick V Palace.

          old team:

          boruc, given

          terry, lescott, toure, moxey, brayford

          paulinho, nolan, silva, michu, barkley

          rvp, dzeko, giroud

a wc would see me make these changes:

terry, lescott, brayford, dzeko, nolan > coleman, dawson, turner, ben arfa, benteke

other options include nolan > brady (instead of barfa) & paulinho > lamela

          Hi guys,

what player looks like benefitting from johnsons absence - wisdom? may be a decent shout at 4.5

What are hazard owners doing about the man? Im considering swapping him for lampard, or doing Snod --> Brady. Would it be safer just to get Hazard out of there or is the conensus that he may start and play next weekend?

I have RVP in my WC team but I am quite prepared for this to be a one week punt if he fails or is benched vs Palace.

I think this is actually quite a good WC strategy because having RVP in your team kinda forces you to think hard about the value for money of every other member of your squad. So, you end up with a really "tight" squad if that makes sense. Then, if you do end up downgrading RVP you can decide at leisure where to spend the extra cash based on where it will help the most.

GW7 Suarez @ home to Palace.

We're going to have the whole debate all over again 😛

Should be a quick upgrade if you have 2 of the 9ers though
