The Knee Jerk – Would You Adam and Eve It?

Sometimes us Fantasy Managers are just too fickle. Surely few of us lost faith in Charlie Adam? We know his influence in the Blackpool midfield – his role of quarterback, prompting every move of purpose with careful possession, launching instant attacks with raking 60-yard passes. We also know that Adam sits on free-kicks and penalties – today’s brace in the 2-2 draw at Ewood reminded us just how vital that can be.

We had all the information then, and yet, going into gameweek 30, only 1% of our Captain Poll voters fancied backing the balding ball-hogger, with heavyweight temptations like Wayne Rooney, Rafeal Van der Vaart and Nani drawing the eye.

I’m just as much to blame. Shamefully omitted form the Scout Picks behind the gameweek Fantasy failures Ashley Young and Samir Nasri, it’s almost as if Adam’s potential had slipped from memory.

Had a two-game suspension and an FA Cup break really wiped my brain? Had I mistakenly marked the data storing Adam’s achievements for “recycling” along with last week’s Masterchef winner and everything my girlfriend has ever told me?

That can’t be the case.

No, I’m only guilty of being fickle – banged to rights; distracted by bigger names and transient thrills that threw a smokescreen over Adam’s dependable potential.

Charlie is back now. Today’s points haul a sharp elbow in the ribs for the 140,000 Fantasy Premier League Managers who sold him on in recent gameweeks. A slap in the face for a Scout Picks selector seduced by erratic chancers like Villa’s Young.

And yet, I can’t guarantee that Adam will be back in my affections just yet. Can I squeeze him in my own star spangled midfield unit when it’s Fulham away and Arsenal at home to come next? Maybe.

That Arsenal game is the first of four consecutive Bloomfield Road matches – a spell that will surely guarantee that Adam’s price will rise quicker than his calorie count in May.

A new Adam bandwagon is rolling then. My memory banks safely restored. Fickle nature restrained.

By the way, Clint Dempsey scored tonight. Remember him? Didn’t he win Masterchef?

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Dawson getting a bonus point is one of the worst decisions I have ever seen, he was turned by Carlton Cole twice far too easily and had to do f*ck all defensive work all game. Bridge and Upson were much more deserving.

        Mr Madden seems to have got the better of me. Yet again a Blackpool player playing away from home has got into double figures and knocked me out of the cup. Unless Fernando runs riot tomorrow of course.

    got into my rivals team last night he about 80 points back though so i thought id give him good transfers. i brought in saha,distin ans adam who i also captained ha. regetting it kind of

    Made a last minute decision to captain VdV rather than RvP - on the basis that I thought Woy's West Brom would prove tough opposition and the Hammers don't do clean sheets.

    I was half right of course, but no consolation at all especially now the BPs are out - 12 points down on that decision...

    Lucky I had Baines and Coleman - shame Dempsey had to wade in mind! Ah the joys of FF!

      Members stats say otherwise. Baines had almost double the touches, put in 7 crosses more, made 3 key passes (Coleman 0) while only two other defenders made more passes in opponents half. In a nutshell, Baines was outstanding - deserved the 3 Bonus.

        Stats shmats. If man of match awards were only based on pure stats, Lucas Leiva would bag the 3 points for Liverpool week in week out. Also Baines takes all the setpieces so of course its going to be biased towards him.

      I thought Nani had one of his worst matches for us in ages today. The 3 bp are just plain bizarre! He livened up after the sending off but that was 10mins max.

          Worries me that he can't play on the left anywhere near as effectively. No surprise he came into the game when they switched flanks. But Valencia has no left foot at all!

      Yep, Coleman was outstanding. BP judges are just shocking at times. Rooney should have had some BPs too. I swear BP judges don't watch the whole game.

      Is it worth getting him in with all these injuries though and missing GW33. I'm seriously considering it as you hype him up so much but lack of bonus is certainly worrying if deserved.

    I think BPs need to be scrapped or be more scientific (e.g. % passes completed; no. key passes; no. blocks or successful tackles) and be split best defender; best midfielder; best striker...too much discretion is shown at present
