With Gameweek four behind us we once again delve into the Sky Sports game, reviewing the Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries and the latest transfer market trends. As always, we also look ahead to the forthcoming Gameweek, with a couple of suggested captain options.

Gameweek 4 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below is a match-by-match breakdown of the players who won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man-of-the-Match award.

FixtureMoTM
Man United vs Crystal PalaceWayne Rooney
Aston Villa vs NewcastleHatem Ben Arfa
Fulham vs West BromMorgan Amilfitano
Hull City vs CardiffJoe Lewis
Stoke City vs Man CityCharlie Adam
Sunderland vs ArsenalMesut Ozil
Tottenham vs NorwichGylfi Sigurdsson
Everton vs ChelseaGareth Barry
Southampton vs West HamJussi Jaaskelainen
Swansea vs LiverpoolDaniel Sturridge

For the first time this season goalkeepers entered the thoughts of the Sky reporter with two shot stoppers – Joe Lewis and Jussi Jaaskelainen – managing to achieve the accolade. Elsewhere the awards were spread amongst six midfielders and two forwards. Charlie Adam and Hatem Ben Arfa have now received the plaudits twice in four matches and come in at a budget friendly 4.9 million and 5.9 million respectively – both also have a hand in set pieces and seem viable options to fund further big-hitting options.

Gameweek 4 Bonus Points

Six goalkeepers picked up save bonus last week. Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet was one of the beneficiaries and has now picked up bonus points in two of his four fixtures – he has also been credited with 19 saves overall, the highest of any stopper.

In defence, a total of 12 players fetched bonus, six for tackles and six for passes completed. No one managed to achieve both, although Swansea’s young full-back Ben Davies came closest with 62 completed passes and 2 tackles, a couple of challenges short.

In midfield, 19 players picked up bonus – eight for tackling and 13 for passes, which was the highest amount of any Gameweek so far. Jon Obi-Mikel and Aaron Ramsey were the two men to gain bonus for both – Ramsey’s all round game has helped him pick up passing and tackling bonus three times each in his four games so far, earning an additional 12 points.

In the forward positions, somewhat surprisingly, two players gained tackling bonus. Steven Naismith and Bryan Ruiz were the men defending from the front – although both found themselves in slightly deeper or wider roles than their classification as a frontman suggests.

A reminder that Fantasy Football Scout members can access all the data regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
SilvaMan City8.44.70%
ColeWest Ham4.72.82%
ColemanEverton6.52.33%
SturridgeLiverpool9.21.92%
CazorlaArsenal8.71.89%

Injury seems to have forced the hand of Fantasy managers in most of the names above, however the removal of the in-form Seamus Coleman (2.33%) and Daniel Sturridge (1.92%) seems a little hasty. We can only assume these sales were in order to fund other big hitting options elsewhere.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
OzilArsenal8.86.63%
RamseyArsenal5.84.81%
Ben ArfaNewcastle5.93.62%
SturridgeLiverpool9.23.36%
RoseTottenham4.73.35%

Arsenal players continue to dominate the transfers in with Mesut Ozil (6.63%) and Aaron Ramsey (4.81%) picking up yet more suitors. Hatem Ben Arfa’s last two games have been eye-catching with 3.62% of Fantasy managers acquiring the Frenchman on the back of two goals and MoTM awards in his last couple of fixtures. Daniel Sturridge (3.36%) and Danny Rose (3.35%) feature again this week, though the latter was subbed off in Tottenham’s Europa League win over Tromso last night and looks a doubt for Sunday’s trip to Cardiff.

Gameweek 5 Proposed Captain Strategy

Looking ahead to the armband options for Gameweek 5, we can again highlight two alternatives, one using a captain change during the Gameweek and one using a transfer.

Captain Option 1

You have a captain playing in Saturday’s fixtures and use a captain change to a player set to feature in Sunday’s fixtures. If you used option one from last week you should be coming into the Gameweek with Daniel Sturridge holding the armband.

Our Strategy:
Daniel Sturridge → Robin Van Persie

Although Robin Van Persie’s trip to the Etihad on Sunday is hardly ideal, this tactic would enable you to enter Gameweek 6 without making a captain change, with the armband on the Dutchman for the following Saturday’s home fixture against West Brom.

Captain Option 2

You have a captain playing Saturday and use a transfer to a player featuring in Sunday’s matches.

Our Strategy:
Daniel Sturridge → Oliver Giroud

Using this method you would have the armband on the Arsenal forward at home to Stoke on Sunday and then later in the Gameweek you could use your captain change to a player involved the following Saturday – or simply keep it on Giroud, who rolls up to the Liberty in the teatime kick-off.

The Fantasy Football Scout League

Our own Fantasy Football Scout League is currently riding high on top of the Private League rankings. With a £1,000 prize to the winner, you’d be mad not to get involved. To join, visit Sky Sports Fantasy Football and key in League Name: FFScout, League Code: 8000112.

The Fantasy Football Club

If you missed Thursday’s show, you can still catch Fenners and Merse this evening at 18:30 Skysports One HD where they will be discussing the previous week’s Fantasy Football events, chatting to Rob Green and quizzing Romanian legend Gheorghe Hagi for his #One2Eleven.

My moves for the next GW6 are 0.2 away. Wanted:

Silva + Quinn + Snodgrass out for Ramsey + Eriksen + Moses.

Here's hoping Silva and Snodgrass (or Quinn, ahem) go crazy GW5 and I can make that 0.2 up.

    Yeah, FAT chance.

Looks like I'll have to do Silva + Snodgrass + Soldado for Eriksen + Moses + Rooney instead.

If you want to knew for sure, you'll have to sit up and wait 😉

Hard to sat by now. But If you look at the column to the right in total fpl, Sturridge has the highest 'speed' in his rising today, with 49,6% rise today. Guess he's likely to pass the Two others, Ozil 32% and the 'slowest riser' Zabaleta only 3,2% rising today.

Regrading a 8pt hit to do Rvp. Fellaini. Brady to Rooney. Michu. Mosses. Allowing me to get suarez next week for free.

People seem very against it.Why? A lot of you guys seem to think michu is going to explode this week so he might get the hits back on his own.

But If I was to say it was for 1 hit people would probably say yes. And if I was to ask is it ok to take a hit next week for suarez people would also probably say yes so what's the difference in taking the hits this week instead? And gain from possible michu and mosses returns.

My Only other option is to do only fellaini to michu and play Brady or barkley. And then take one hit next week to do rvp and benteke to Rooney and suarez. And am still left with playing brady or barkley. Sm just after some solid advice from seasoned fantasy managers. Not people that just say No and give no reasons. Thanks in advance guys

Nobody really recommends 8 point hits. If you want it long term then do it, but short term I doubt you will make your points back.

you cant compare 2 gws. 4 points does not equal the same for 2 weeks when you have different matches on. eg you do the 8 points and rvp scores a hattrick, cf with doing 4 points for 2 weeks and getting rvps hattrick ....you see they arent equal

An -8 and then a FT is not the same as 2x -4 because who knows what might happen between now and next GW? It's great having plans but you may not be able to stick to them due to injuries, suspensions, price changes etc so you could end up doing a -8 and then taking another unplanned hit next week.

Need some advice, on wc, have 1.5m in the bank for Benteke > Rooney next week with .1 left over.
Currently have Whittingham (5m) & Chester (4m), would you keep it this way or do:
    Whittingham > 4.5
    Chester > Yanga-Mbwia

Ok serious question here. Do you think Mourinho legitimately has an issue with the top Spanish players?

At Madrid there was talk of problems with Morinhou and the spanish clique. Actually this was fairly well known after his rifts with Ramos and Casillas at Spain.

Now at chelsea Mata is considered not good enough to play for Chelsea. Torres who scored 20+ goals last season and has probably looked chelsea's best striker over the last 2 seasons does not even make the squad for a champions league game, is benched for Everton and of course the embarassment of not even having a starting striker v united.

Of course you then also have azpil. He has not featured once at all.

Looking from the outside I can see Mourinho has a real hatred for the spanish contingent, they do not appeal to him at all. I can see all 3 leaving in January/end of the season if mourinho is still there.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Surely it is not a coincidence?

      yes he does imo

its no coincidence he either falls out with them or wont pick them.

He had rifts with the Spaniards at Madrid because they had too much power at the club. Torres isn't a good striker, Azpilicuata isn't better than Ivanovic. Mata is still inexplicable, but calling saying Mourinho hates Spaniards based on this would surprise me.

So your belief is that Mourinho is a racist?

Tbh I think azpiculeta is worst than terry luiz ivan Cahill and cole. They have only had 5 games in all competition and he may well see him as a replacement and wants to keep a solid back 4.
Torres is past it and has no future at Chelsea, the error here is that he didn't sign anyone but you can see he is trying to move on. To much baggage.
As for mata? Well I think mourinho has the worlds most boring tactics so probably doesn't enjoy a player of his grace.

One of his biggest fights was with Ronaldo and they're both Portuguese.
Azpi not playing is not that surprising, as you'd always back a Mourinho team to choose Ivanovic over Azpi.

I'm unsure about the Mata issue, but if does turn into a full blown fight then I'd like to see who Chelsea supporters back- their best players of the last 2 seasons or 'The Special One;.

Is this team ready for GW5?!

Going to save FT for next week I think... Or do any of you see anywhere where I should consider using it? .2 in the bank.

    Boruc
    Coleman - Touré - Collins
    Wally - Michu - Barkley - Hazard
    Giroud (C) - RVP - Studge

    (+4) Ravel - Burner - Ward

    Good to go?!

Cheers and have a lucky game week all 😀

I'm a little concerned about the lack of creativity there without Coutinho and I think Giroud clearly has bags around him...

I see Trigg is up to his mind games again, trying to get everyone to Captain HBA... Bet he doesn't do it himself 😉

If you are convinced on who to captain by someone on here you deserve to fail. Just use you're brain

I have next week off work and I am so tempted to play my wildcard to keep myself occupied! Bad reason, right?!

With all the talk of Theo (c) I'm suprised to see him only 4th in the captain poll. (that said I voted Danny S)
