Romelu Lukaku flexes his substantial Fantasy football muscles to wreck the Newcastle defence and leave us re-assessing our forward lines yet again. Meanwhile, the withdrawal of Hatem Ben Arfa and a transformed second-half showing from Newcastle has his owners hovering over the panic button.

The Game Changer

Lukaku simply ran riot in the first half with the Newcastle back four unable to cope with his pace and power. Having transformed and won the game at Upton Park from the bench, this evening, the Belgian dismantled the Magpies with a brace and an assist that put the game out of reach.

We shouldn’t be surprised by Lukaku’s impact. We saw last season that, when he is given pitch time, he can deliver, with 17 goals from just 20 league starts at West Brom. Jose Mourinho may feel that his game is not refined enough for the Chelsea squad but Lukaku has nonetheless proved to be hugely effective on the Premier League stage.

Fantasy managers now have to carefully consider their front lines. Lukaku at 7.6 and rising in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will clearly represent outstanding value if he can replicate the strike rate shown at the Hawthorns. On tonight’s evidence, there’s every chance he can achieve that and more, putting further pressure on the three slots in our squad.

The Underused

It seems almost folly to discuss yet another option up front but we shouldn’t ignore Loic Remy’s late goal which left the Goodison nerves jangling. Three goals in three starts underline the Frenchman’s impact that, while less explosive than Lukaku’s at Everton, has been no less effective.

Available in the same FPL price bracket, Remy’s performance will likely be overlooked but, having been shifted to a central role in place of Papiss Cisse tonight, it’s clear that Remy will, quite literally, be central to their aspirations this season.

The Selection Poser

Hatem Ben Arfa’s withdrawal at half-time took everyone by surprise and yet, minutes later, his replacement Yohan Cabaye, scored from range to hand the Magpies an unlikely lifeline. Despite attempting to focus play through Ben Arfa in the first half, Alan Pardew took the decision to replace him with the more combative Cabaye for the second period and the change appeared to pep up the visitors as they came close to an unlikely comeback.

The reason behind the change is uncertain. Certainly Alan Pardew gave no indication of an injury in his post-match comments, leaving Ben Arfa’s owners frustrated at the curtailed pitch time and somewhat anxious that the mercurial winger may have fallen out of favour ahead of the Gameweek 7 trip to Cardiff. We await further noises from St James’ Park.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I was at the sunderland game when Amalfitano was quality and deserved MOTM, on the radio after his stats were 1 goal, 1 assist, hit the bar and 36 crosses . Missed UTD game again class and could of scored 3. Looks a very good player

Ya, fair enough. Maybe I'm getting involved cause I just bought Suarez and now I have them both. I'm happy having both for a few weeks anyway. I'm concerned about United and atm I'm gonna stay away.

well, maybe it makes sense if you dont think too much about it, but if you have equal forward prospects from other teams, then you are more covered for captain-choices in the future, thats why you cant only look at them as individual pointhaulers.

    Migs / Boruc

    Ivanovic / Zabaleta / Wilson / Burner / Chester

    Ramsey / Ozil / Brady / HBA / JWP

    Giroud / Rooney / Soldado

My knee jerk is to get rid of HBA and Soldado for -

    A. Studge + Yaya
    B. Suarez + Siggy

or even C: Rooney and Soldado out - Studge and Suarez in for pure loconess.

I can't see any rotation risk at all now..Just a classy player who will bang in a dozen goals and umpteen assists for Lukaku...They really are a talented bunch at Everton with no CL/Europa league in the way....Baines/Barkley/Lukaku must be the best offer on the table for FPL points for triple up from one team at a friendly budget...and nailed on...

Could do with a little advice perhaps to stop the knee from jerking, responses would be very much appreciated.

    Mignolet (CRY)

Clyne (SWA)_____ Mertisacker (wba)_____ Baines (mci)
Michu (sot)___ Ramsey (wba)___ Eriksen (WHU)___ *HBA (car)*
Rooney (sun)vc____ Sturridge (CRY)c____ Giroud (wba)

Subs: Barkley (mci), Coleman (mci), Yang Mbiwa (car)

    1FT, Bank 0.1

I'm not pleased about Barfa nor double Everton defence(it prevents me getting Lukaku).

I'm willing to leave Lukaku for another week due to the tough City fixture giving me time to assess which striker to drop.

I wouldn't know which Everton defender to drop and I wouldn't know who to get in for Barfa (would prefer to upgrade him rather than downgrade him).

Should I seek to save a transfer or at least wait till after the CL games?

Yeah I've been contemplating dropping Coleman for K Toure who could start ahead of HBA.

Mata is in my thoughts but probably not for a few weeks Rooney/Giroud -> Lukaku & HBA -> Mata

Baines imo, always debatable whether he is worth his cost. Where Coleman is probably a more assured player for his cost, if that makes sense.

I'd wait till champions league games. But struggling with that question myself. Deep down though, I know that years of fantasy footy experience has taught me, you will get occasionally punished for an early transfer during the week.

As for replacement for HBA, tough one. I'm looking at one of Nani, Oscar and Mata myself.

If you plan to get Lukaku, I'd keep Baines as you have no budget issue to have him.

Getting Toure means you will double Liverpool DF and max Liverpool quota. You will have future problem if you want to double Suarez & Sturridge some day in future. I would drop Coleman for someone from Swansea.

Good point regarding the Liverpool triple up. A Swansea defender is an option but I find the trade a little on the meh side. I think it might be better to save and have 2 FT's for the international break (fingers crossed HBA starts against Cardiff)

    Which one should go first?
    A) Lampard - too many competition.
    B) Ben Arfa - only play half time in last game.
    C) Yanga-Mbiwa - play half time and look really poor. Might lost his place in next game.
    D) Vidic - MU out of form and weird choice of selection from DM.
    E) Chester - Injured. (5th defender)
    F) Ward-Prowse - Can't stand doing cameo in all game (5th midfielder)

    My team as below:
    Mignolet Lewis
    Vidic Ivanovic Zabaleta Yanga-Mbiwa Chester
Lampard Brady Ben Arfa Moses Ward-Prowse
    Giroud Suárez Rooney

Leave the defence for now, i'm sure you can survive with Vidic, Ivan and Zaba for the next few weeks.
I'd be looking to ship Lampard to begin with so long as Ben arfa is ok. Ward-Prowse can remain rooted to the bench.

    😯 😯 😯

Woww! Just woke up and checked result of Everton game. I havent imagined that i would see that a BiG Fat ZERO points for Baines. Stunned for a moment.

This ZERO has served me really well because two of top three in my ML, the casuals who were extremely lucky with RvP(c) and Baines(vc) last week, captained Baines this week!!!

This event officially put me off from trying point hits to get Suarez and doubling Liverpool strikers this week. I will keep playing Rooney - Sturridge - Giroud and hope the luck come my way.

Ps. Barkley points on my bench again. ğŸ™

similar fortunes here. I had HBA, Baines and Coleman starting as well and with a grand total of 2 pts. Meanwhile Barkley is on the bench with his 9 ğŸ™
