Romelu Lukaku flexes his substantial Fantasy football muscles to wreck the Newcastle defence and leave us re-assessing our forward lines yet again. Meanwhile, the withdrawal of Hatem Ben Arfa and a transformed second-half showing from Newcastle has his owners hovering over the panic button.

The Game Changer

Lukaku simply ran riot in the first half with the Newcastle back four unable to cope with his pace and power. Having transformed and won the game at Upton Park from the bench, this evening, the Belgian dismantled the Magpies with a brace and an assist that put the game out of reach.

We shouldn’t be surprised by Lukaku’s impact. We saw last season that, when he is given pitch time, he can deliver, with 17 goals from just 20 league starts at West Brom. Jose Mourinho may feel that his game is not refined enough for the Chelsea squad but Lukaku has nonetheless proved to be hugely effective on the Premier League stage.

Fantasy managers now have to carefully consider their front lines. Lukaku at 7.6 and rising in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will clearly represent outstanding value if he can replicate the strike rate shown at the Hawthorns. On tonight’s evidence, there’s every chance he can achieve that and more, putting further pressure on the three slots in our squad.

The Underused

It seems almost folly to discuss yet another option up front but we shouldn’t ignore Loic Remy’s late goal which left the Goodison nerves jangling. Three goals in three starts underline the Frenchman’s impact that, while less explosive than Lukaku’s at Everton, has been no less effective.

Available in the same FPL price bracket, Remy’s performance will likely be overlooked but, having been shifted to a central role in place of Papiss Cisse tonight, it’s clear that Remy will, quite literally, be central to their aspirations this season.

The Selection Poser

Hatem Ben Arfa’s withdrawal at half-time took everyone by surprise and yet, minutes later, his replacement Yohan Cabaye, scored from range to hand the Magpies an unlikely lifeline. Despite attempting to focus play through Ben Arfa in the first half, Alan Pardew took the decision to replace him with the more combative Cabaye for the second period and the change appeared to pep up the visitors as they came close to an unlikely comeback.

The reason behind the change is uncertain. Certainly Alan Pardew gave no indication of an injury in his post-match comments, leaving Ben Arfa’s owners frustrated at the curtailed pitch time and somewhat anxious that the mercurial winger may have fallen out of favour ahead of the Gameweek 7 trip to Cardiff. We await further noises from St James’ Park.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

The international break could be a great time to wildcard. Anyone considering it?

Lots of quality "sleepers" could become available at very decent prices

    Walc, Mata, Silva (possibly Nani)
    Benteke

Even Lukaku at 7.8 is a great price

Since the high priced mid's are misfiring. i would only need to tweek my def and lower priced mids.

My Strike force is solid....Giroud/Roo/Stu and i have solid (C) choices for the next 3 weeks.

Made up 100K this week with a massive Green Arrow. I have held off this long.....going to stick with the plan.

They actually kept 2 away clean sheets, but have faced Arsenal/Spurs/Liv/Man U in the rest so you can forgive them a few goals. With Vorm in goal he's proven quite reliable over the last couple of seasons.

That's a good question. Honestly, I think every one of them will be subject to unexpected rotation and as such isn't really worth putting among only five midfielders you can have in the whole game.

Right now, Paulinho is the surest bet, but when Capoue comes back, you don't know. Sigurdsson may stay in squad for some time, but you never know about him. Eriksen's more of a passer than finisher, so besides rotation risk, also less to gain.

Hi All, looking for some advice

I want to get rid if Soldado this week regardless of his good fixture for either Suarez or Sturridge...I will then captain whoever I bring in...

    Should I do

    1) Soldado -> Sturridge
    2) Soldado -> Suarez, Zabelta -> 5.6 defender -4 hit

it seems like option 1 is the best choice but I think I have more faith in Suarez as a captain plus I think I prefer him in the long run

    Thoughts?

      get Sturridge.

getting rid of Zabaleta isn't worth of -4 hit.

I still haven't got Ramsey, of course he won't continue to score every single game like he is at the minute but do I get him in, do people feel he will still score points at a decent standard?

yes. he looks a completely different player. his timing running into the box is great and he looks a composed finisher now

I'd think he could continue his form against the weaker teams they have coming up but their schedule will tighten up soon enough.

he won't score every game but no player apart from Ronaldo does that! his goals will die down a bit but he will still score and get assists and for 6.2 you can't go wrong with that

2.3 Shots per game says to me that he can't sustain his offensive output.

How's the team looking for this week?

    Mignolet / Lewis
    Dawson - Vidic - Baines
    Moses - Ramsey - Michu - Özil
    Rooney - Giroud - Sturridge (c)
    Sub: Barkley, Clyne, B.Turner

I'm trying to resist the temp to get Suarez and tell myself to go with this front three.
    Any change - upgrade/ downgrade/ bench required?

I can't do that in one move.. 🙁

A hit means Suarez has to score two more goals than the one transferred out to justify the hits. Things may go Sturridge way this week.

It's a great front 3, all bang in form. The cash difference between Danny and Luis could get a nice upgrade elsewhere.

    Koscielny.

None of them will keep a CS but Zabaleta and Coleman are more likely to get you attacking points.

Cool. I wildcarded for last GW. Left Amalfitano on the bench, didn't think he'd be too hot away to United. Now have to decide if I bench him or Lukaku this GW ?
