Romelu Lukaku flexes his substantial Fantasy football muscles to wreck the Newcastle defence and leave us re-assessing our forward lines yet again. Meanwhile, the withdrawal of Hatem Ben Arfa and a transformed second-half showing from Newcastle has his owners hovering over the panic button.

The Game Changer

Lukaku simply ran riot in the first half with the Newcastle back four unable to cope with his pace and power. Having transformed and won the game at Upton Park from the bench, this evening, the Belgian dismantled the Magpies with a brace and an assist that put the game out of reach.

We shouldn’t be surprised by Lukaku’s impact. We saw last season that, when he is given pitch time, he can deliver, with 17 goals from just 20 league starts at West Brom. Jose Mourinho may feel that his game is not refined enough for the Chelsea squad but Lukaku has nonetheless proved to be hugely effective on the Premier League stage.

Fantasy managers now have to carefully consider their front lines. Lukaku at 7.6 and rising in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will clearly represent outstanding value if he can replicate the strike rate shown at the Hawthorns. On tonight’s evidence, there’s every chance he can achieve that and more, putting further pressure on the three slots in our squad.

The Underused

It seems almost folly to discuss yet another option up front but we shouldn’t ignore Loic Remy’s late goal which left the Goodison nerves jangling. Three goals in three starts underline the Frenchman’s impact that, while less explosive than Lukaku’s at Everton, has been no less effective.

Available in the same FPL price bracket, Remy’s performance will likely be overlooked but, having been shifted to a central role in place of Papiss Cisse tonight, it’s clear that Remy will, quite literally, be central to their aspirations this season.

The Selection Poser

Hatem Ben Arfa’s withdrawal at half-time took everyone by surprise and yet, minutes later, his replacement Yohan Cabaye, scored from range to hand the Magpies an unlikely lifeline. Despite attempting to focus play through Ben Arfa in the first half, Alan Pardew took the decision to replace him with the more combative Cabaye for the second period and the change appeared to pep up the visitors as they came close to an unlikely comeback.

The reason behind the change is uncertain. Certainly Alan Pardew gave no indication of an injury in his post-match comments, leaving Ben Arfa’s owners frustrated at the curtailed pitch time and somewhat anxious that the mercurial winger may have fallen out of favour ahead of the Gameweek 7 trip to Cardiff. We await further noises from St James’ Park.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Team for next week, my reasoning is that Coleman gets very forward so even if a CS is unlikely there might be attacking points. Can see Newcastle scoring against Cardiff so benching Turner.

    Westwood (MUN)
Zabaleta (EVE), Coleman (mci), Wilson (ful)
Hazard (nor), Eriksen (WHU), Michu (sou), Ozil (wba)
Lukaku (mci), Giroud (wba), Sturridge (CRY)

Subs: Boruc (SWA), Barkley (mci), Turner (NEW), Collins (tot).

I'm considering the same, but haven't built up the courage to do so yet. I'd like to say you're mad to make myself feel better for not doing it. Pretty dangerous taking -8 with CL still to be played...

I'm looking for some advice, I really don't have a clue what to do next...

    Needs FT/hits this week?
I don't think I need to get rid of anyone really urgently, but there are several who are better off transfered (Mirallas, Kim, and to a lesser extent Toure, Lampard and maybe even Coleman and Soldado)

    Marshall (Boruc)
Toure Nastasic Coleman (M Turner Ward)
    Michu Eriksen Lampard Kim (Mirallas)
    Sturridge(c) Giroud Soldado

This is the million dollar question. Currently sitting in my team riding the tidal wave for value. Rooney or Lukaku. Lukaku against MCI and Rooney against SUN next GW. No brainer really. Also it is much easier to do Rooney to Lukaku in the future rather than the way round. My thinking anyway.

All are valid options that I am considering. Sometimes its good to have players such as Suarez and Rooney because no matter how they team are performing they can still bring in the points. I suppose that is why their price is so high.

Not essential to have. But being honest, I really do not rotate my 5th DF. Most weeks I will be playing 3 Defenders, sometimes 4. The 5th is fodder.

@Scroobius... Maybe I'm being a bit harsh with the Derby comparison but whenever I've seen Palace they've looked a bit all over the place in defence.

They haven't played anyone in free-scoring form yet either, really. With the exception of United (who have slowed down a lot since opening day) everyone else has at least equalled their highest number of goals for the season when playing Palace.

    6 weeks gone....
Still only one goal from the midfield and that was Nolan in his 1st week...
after that I haven't seen anyone from my midfield with points greater than 3.....

honestly, 3 has been rare for my team too... have seen lots of 1 pointers recently....

Ooo he's definitely a good option, but with Arsenal's good midfield options Walcott/Ozil/Ramsey maybe even Cazorla its easier not to depend on him for Arsenal "coverage" whereas if you look at Sturridge, it's hard to find other good Liverpool attacking assets particularly from midfield

So basically, Giroud is more dispensable (I think) 😉

BUT as Arsenal's 'main' striker and all this good coverage of midfield around him, chances are easily going to be falling to him.

Whether or not he takes them though, completely different matter.

For me Siggy is a big rotation risk. I've had enough of rotation problems with Lampard.

I have Ramsey, may get Barkley after they have played City and I will prefer whittingham to Brady

I made a rush decision on Saturday to get him in for Walcott. Not 100% confident, but his numbers for shots are pretty impressive.

Paulinho is good, but totts dont score enough to justify that cost, barkley or whitty are far better options and very cheap

I guess so.. but he has a goal and an assist. at times Paulinho has looked the most likely to score. and Spurs seem to be resolving their issues, no?

I ignored the RMT tool and played Terry over Morrison last week. Am I right to do the same again this week and start Baines over Nolan?

Nolan couldn't buy attacking returns next fixture. I like it, Everton are very, very strong and Lukaku doesn't hurt Baines chances from set-pieces.

Doubling up on Swansea attackers as MICHU and PABLO is a good idea ???

    Swans next 5 after soton

    Gameweek 8 Sunderland (H)
    Gameweek 9 West Ham (H)
    Gameweek 10 Cardiff City (A)
    Gameweek 11 Stoke City (H)
    Gameweek 12 Fulham (A)

Pablo also a part of my 2/3 rotation of midfielder trio of Brady-Barkley-Pablo
