Romelu Lukaku flexes his substantial Fantasy football muscles to wreck the Newcastle defence and leave us re-assessing our forward lines yet again. Meanwhile, the withdrawal of Hatem Ben Arfa and a transformed second-half showing from Newcastle has his owners hovering over the panic button.

The Game Changer

Lukaku simply ran riot in the first half with the Newcastle back four unable to cope with his pace and power. Having transformed and won the game at Upton Park from the bench, this evening, the Belgian dismantled the Magpies with a brace and an assist that put the game out of reach.

We shouldn’t be surprised by Lukaku’s impact. We saw last season that, when he is given pitch time, he can deliver, with 17 goals from just 20 league starts at West Brom. Jose Mourinho may feel that his game is not refined enough for the Chelsea squad but Lukaku has nonetheless proved to be hugely effective on the Premier League stage.

Fantasy managers now have to carefully consider their front lines. Lukaku at 7.6 and rising in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will clearly represent outstanding value if he can replicate the strike rate shown at the Hawthorns. On tonight’s evidence, there’s every chance he can achieve that and more, putting further pressure on the three slots in our squad.

The Underused

It seems almost folly to discuss yet another option up front but we shouldn’t ignore Loic Remy’s late goal which left the Goodison nerves jangling. Three goals in three starts underline the Frenchman’s impact that, while less explosive than Lukaku’s at Everton, has been no less effective.

Available in the same FPL price bracket, Remy’s performance will likely be overlooked but, having been shifted to a central role in place of Papiss Cisse tonight, it’s clear that Remy will, quite literally, be central to their aspirations this season.

The Selection Poser

Hatem Ben Arfa’s withdrawal at half-time took everyone by surprise and yet, minutes later, his replacement Yohan Cabaye, scored from range to hand the Magpies an unlikely lifeline. Despite attempting to focus play through Ben Arfa in the first half, Alan Pardew took the decision to replace him with the more combative Cabaye for the second period and the change appeared to pep up the visitors as they came close to an unlikely comeback.

The reason behind the change is uncertain. Certainly Alan Pardew gave no indication of an injury in his post-match comments, leaving Ben Arfa’s owners frustrated at the curtailed pitch time and somewhat anxious that the mercurial winger may have fallen out of favour ahead of the Gameweek 7 trip to Cardiff. We await further noises from St James’ Park.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Can we just take a moment to reflect on how a team with the spending power of Chelsea can go the first half of the season with Torres,Ba & Eto'o as their striking options.

Sorry Chelsea fans but your club is run f***ing awful?

Why throw so much money at a signing like Willian despite the abundance of talent already at your disposal.Just like politicians, those running our clubs are only there for a period of our clubs history, they should show sense and consider the future when making decisions.

As a Liverpool fan I can honestly say that Rodgers is making decisions for the future of the club.i'll gladly take the Wenger approach over this over spending mentality that is making a mockery out of what are essentially massive clubs.

Very fair points and I agree with them but you must remember that Rodger's has wasted a lot of money too (not nearly to the same extent of course).

      Mignolet for Reina was pointless.
Joe Allan was pointless and ridiculously expensive.
Sakho has so far unimpressed and even if he did £15 million for him is a lot.
      Aspas has been poor.
      Borini was poor
      Assaidi has done little.

I do agree with your point but BR has spent a lot on players that haven't lived up.

Mignolet is a massive upgrade on Reina on recent form. Besides the first game of the season and his return to Sunderland he's been immense, but yeah there are a few bad transfers, but that happens with every club. There have been a few great transfers too.

He was pretty grim at the weekend. Not saying he is bad but it was a completely sideways transfer and BR handled the whole situation terribly (loaning Reina out before he was even aware he was leaving).

With that said, of course there have been good signings too.

I agree with you mate and think Mignolet offers more stability in the sticks.

I also think Sakho will be a cracking signing and it offers Liverpool excellent cover at the back as he can play CB and LB.

Aspas has been OK but nothing special.

Borini and Allen have both had injury problems during their 1st year.We can do better no doubt but I'm talking about nurturing a player.

Keep the faith with the player you thought worthy of buying as apposed to spend spend spend

Chelsea had Sturridge, they've now got Torres!

Well you see Mourinho is playing a long tactic. If you buy 50% of the talented up and coming midfielders then they are all great assets to have, they can be nurtured on loan etc. Of course the squad is bloated. But don't be too quick to take a shot at Torres or any of the other strikers, Chelsea play a very different game that is specifically designed for the midfielders to score goals, the striker is only tasked with laying it back to the midfield. As for Sturridge, I had my reservations but he has been an inspired buy.

They're taking the right risks while opinion on here usually veers toward the safe (no hits if you have playing players, Ramsey over performing, Barkley might get rotated etc etc). Surely with the Re-emergence of Lukaka as a cheap 3rd striker this creates a good foil for Rvp owners to keep him .
Also now that Suarez has started scoring surely this will impact on Rvps price and cause it to decline possibly making him more affordable if he comes back to last years price if 13.5 .
Any thoughts on Lukakas and Suarez arrival on the scene especially in relation to Rvp ?

RVP is always an option and if he was not so expensive I'm sure nearly everyone would have him.

I personally don't have him as there are so many cheaper options at the minute and Man Utd have not found form yet.

This was my initial plan. RVP-Lukaku-Suarez. Didn't keep faith in Robin though. Got rid with my wc for Rooney. Now no room for Lukaku (with his fixs).

people are selling a lot but because his ownership is so high (much dead teams also), he is not gonna drop is price as quickly as benteke for example. Imo, no chance he'll drop 0.5mil

Have done...tough one to come up with a snappy headline for though.

I think that RVP's price will fall steadily. One more blank week over the international break and it could go down 0.3 as wildcards are bandied around.

Giroud, Suarez, Sturridge, Lukaku, Rooney are quite simply better options. Even Remy is a better option at this stage.

Everyday I see you post about Soldado and it's always projecting positive thoughts of him scoring and possibly being Captain, but each week he doesn't perform.

I would just transfer him out already if I were you, Forca!

I started with Soldado and he isn't a bad player by any means. Just isn't delivering enough compared to other strikers atm. I feel cappin hi is a bit too punty given the others have great fixs too.

Fulham have conceded by far the most shots in the area , and by far the most headed chances of anyone

Shawcross , 8 shots so far (presume mostly headers)
