Once again, Saturday morning tempts you with a trio of overlooked alternatives for the weekend ahead. This time around, we have a couple of likely out of position contenders for your perusal, while England’s latest wing hero also makes an appearance.

Marko Arnautovic

Stoke’s summer signing arrives on the radar after a move up front boosted his potential in the previous Gameweek. Classified as a midfielder across the Fantasy games, Arnautovic was handed the chance to lead the line for the Potters’ trip to Fulham and while he failed to open his account for the season, the Austrian offered plenty to suggest that goals may just be around the corner.

Lauded as the next Zlatan Ibrahimovic after moving to Inter, Arnautovic has failed to realise his potential but there’s no doubt he brings a real touch of class to Mark Hughes’ side. Granted, Stoke’s toils in front of goal hardly make a persuasive case for our consideration but with seven attempts against the Cottagers, Arnautovic looks the likeliest to solve their attacking woes.

Coming in at 5.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), 4.9 in the Sky Sports game and 2.0 in the Sun Dream Team, Arnautovic has the perfect opportunity to endear himself to the Potters faithful as West Brom roll up to the Britannia this afternoon. With a mere 0.3% ownership in FPL, he’s firmly off Fantasy radars but could be an out of position contender worth considering for those looking for an alternative to the current midfield template.

Glen Johnson

Back in the Liverpool squad for the first time since Gameweek 3, Johnson’s return from injury happily coincides with a recent change in formation which is sure to increase his appeal. Providing Brendan Rodgers keeps faith in the 3-4-1-2 system which has harvested back-to-back wins, Johnson is expected to be installed on the right of the midfield four, with his raiding runs down the flanks providing plenty attacking menace.

A trip to Newcastle is the first in a hugely favourable run of fixtures, which also sees Rodgers’s side square up to the likes of West Brom, Fulham, Hull, Norwich, West Ham and Cardiff in the next 10 Gameweeks. Now down to just 5.7 from a 6.0 starting price in FPL (7.2 in the Sky Sports game and 5.0 in the Sun Dream Team,) Johnson’s out of position potential, allied with a resilience which has seen the Reds concede just five times so far, could well be highly profitable. Early adopters could well be rewarded for their foresight before the bandwagon begins to roll.

Andros Townsend

There’s no doubt the Tottenham wide man has the ability to frustrate. The statistics will show that Townsend’s penchant for a long-range effort has seen him register more efforts than any other midfielder so far but he’s managed just a single assist over six league starts for Andre Villas-Boas’ side.

Happily for his country, that tendency to try his luck from distance reaped reward over the international break and with his confidence sky-high, Townsend looks set to stave off the challenge of Aaron Lennon and Erik Lamela for Sunday’s trip to Villa Park. While the likes of Paulinho, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Christian Eriksen have proven popular midfield picks, Townsend (5.5 in FPL, 4.6 in the Sky Sports game and 2.5 in the Sun Dream Team,) will be hoping to bring his England form to the table as the north London outfit attempt to recover from the disastrous Gameweek 7 home defeat to West Ham. A strong display this weekend and Townsend could well cement another start as Hull come calling to the Lane next weekend.

On a wc so gj is in. Picked him over walker due to better long term fixtures.

Pretty heavy defence of Baines terry gj fonte and mturner - great rotations for a long time - barring injuries I hope I won't have to touch the back line for a long long time (vorm/boruc keepers)

    Hi folks,

Looking to get Johnson for Vidic, but need to move Migolet - should I go boruc or vorm? Southampton seem move stable at the back and keeping more clean sheets. Poyet could have a good start with Sunderland.

For anyone possibly wanting to know the Newcastle team, keep an eye out on this account. He'll post the team before the deadline, around 10:45 http://twitter.com/nufcfans

As for Liverpool, Lucas has just tweeted this: http://instagram.com/p/fo8jwggTMW/

He definitely won't be in the squad today, along with Enrique

That's what I was thinking! But then I'm wondering whether Mourinho will pull a fast one and save him for ECL by playing Willian 🙁

Any Hazard news about? I'm sure he's nailed on as first choice on the left, just taking an age to get over the ankle injury

I don't think anyone really knows, but I doubt Bruce would rush him back if not 100% - he's been Hull's only real attacking threat this season, so I don't think Bruce would risk him breaking down for a game he probably doesn't expect them to win.

Wow, that's an interesting one ! Not sure I get that one mate ! Ivanovic at home, and always a goal threat, and will finish (I predict) in the top 3 defenders scores come the end of the season. Ward is useful to have, but only as a sub...he gets forward a bit, but Palace will leak goals all season. Baffled me a bit there mate 🙂

If you don't start Ward today, when will you ever start him ?!

Plus it avoids some risk.. if Chelsea don't concede you are laughing...but one goal and two CS's go boom.

I think its just a nice opportunity to play Ward, and fully understand most will start Ivanovic/Terry.

Just playing devils advocate really 🙂

Suspected you might be 🙂 You are right about "if you don't play him today, when will you ?"....and I actually may have been tempted if Chelsea were away today. But I really can see Chelsea keeping a clean sheet today...and even if not, both Terry and Ivanovic are capable of scoring a goal now and then.

Not away at Newcastle. I have him too, but I would consider Giroud or Michu (whom I also have) ahead of him....anyway, I have Rooney as captain today, and if Saurez chips in with the points too, so much the better ! 🙂

Got burned last year by GJ in that Liverpool DGW, where JE stole the show... so don't think I will ever get him this year... even for the bargain price of 5.7...

For all the hype surrounding him, his attacking output over the years has been remarkably low...

In the last 2 years he has returned 2 goals and 6 assists in 5200mins, which equates to an attacking return every 650mins (7.2 games)... very poor when compared to some other big hitting defenders...

Baines - 9 goals, 9 assists in 7400mins... (equates to an attacking return every 400mins)
    Evra - 4 goals, 12 assists in 6300mins... (... every 390mins)
    Terry - 10 goals, 1 assist in 3800mins... (... every 345mins)
    Ivanovic - 8 goals, 2 assists in 6000mins... (... every 600mins)
    JE - 2 goals, 8 assists in 5200mins... (... every 520mins)

I do, however, accept that he is a viable way into the Liverpool defense, but that's about it... I reckon there is better value in the CBs or the keeper, who I currently have, and will be keeping (every pun intended)...

GJ is all huff and no real puff IMO...

I think the 3-4-1-2 will do him a world of good. Less of defensive responsibilities. On a WC so GJ is a luxury that I can afford. I really think he could start racking up the points with the system Liverpool have in place

Yes, this is one thing that has the potential to skew his stats slightly, but even then I watched him in quite a few games last year, where he had been in great positions and always managed to squander the chance, with hopeful long shots or stray passing...

Will him being in those positions more often guarantee him gaining more attacking returns?

I'm not so sure it's as easy as that...

Good point, IMO - he hasn't done too much attacking wise in recent seasons. I am not totally convinced, but will be taking a punt on him, regardless. Was thinking of bringing in Davies or Rangel, but am favouring GJ now with his OOP prospects...

      You raise some valid points.

We hear a lot on these boards about how his stats are very good and it's only a matter of time before he explodes.

I'm still getting him in next week though.

Ramsey or Moses ? Care to share your opinions guys ?

Use FT to hedge potential doubt/rotation this week?

Players that may not play this week:
    Ferdinand (doubt)
    Chambers (wouldn't play)
    Ramsey (rotation)
    Brady (recover from injury)

So should I replace one of them? The whole squad is:

    Mig - Boruc
    Zaba - Coleman - Ferdinand - Fonte - Chambers
    Ozil - Yaya - Barkley - Brady - Ramsey
    Lukaku - Giroud - Sturridge

    4.8m in bank.

    Thanks a lot.

Keeping Ferdinand as he'll defo be back next week and united good CS chances. Playing him
      Today.
Ramsey: want to see today if he gets rotated. Lots of injuries on arsenal mids all the time, so he could well end up playing most of the games as long as he keeps his superb form.
