City’s attack scream for our attention. Wenger’s rotation delivers a mere glancing blow. United look reliant on their young protégée. Another piece is added to Tottenham’s midfield puzzle. Here’s the lessons learned from the Gameweek 8 weekend.

Silva and Aguero have arrived…
West Ham had no answer to the City pairing on Saturday evening. The guile, movement and trickery of City’s attacking duo, along with the presence of Yaya Toure, wrestled control of the game and allowed Silva and Aguero to torment and kill off their opponents. In Fantasy terms, these two have arrived on our radars in a big way. Aguero has seen more transfers in than any other Fantasy Premier League (FPL) forward in the Gameweek but, by comparison, Silva continues to be ignored. With Toure established in many lineups, Mesut Ozil so popular and a cast of performing low-to-mid price assets on show, it’s perhaps understandable. However, with goals seemingly on tap for City and Silva integral to most of their attacks – there’s a major differential on offer.

So has the “false nine”…
What do you do when you don’t have a centre-forward? You simply don’t play one. We’ve saw both West Ham and Newcastle deploy 4-6-0 systems this weekend, with Hatem Ben Arfa deployed as the most central attacker against Liverpool, while Sam Allardyce again allowed Ravel Morrison and Mo Diame license to attack from central areas against City having trialled the system in the 3-0 win at Spurs. Will it boost these players’ opportunity for Fantasy points? Maybe in the case of Ben Arfa – at least he’s on the pitch and contributing, after a return to the Magpies XI. It’s Sunderland up next this weekend, against a defence that melted away when faced with the Swansea tide. It remains to be seen if Alan Pardew feels the need to flood the midfield against the Black Cats. With Lee Cattermole and Cheick Tiote on the pitch, Ben Arfa might be better off hugging the touchline.

We got away with the first bout of Wenger’s rotation…
Yes, Aaron Ramsey returned double figures in the FPL once again but let’s not forget, were it not for Mathieu Flamini’s double vision, the Welshman may been limited to a ten-minute cameo. We shouldn’t overlook that Arsene Wenger took the decision to rest Ramsey ahead of the Champions League showpiece with Dortmund. That not only indicated just how important Ramsey has become to the Arsenal cause but also highlights how many options Wenger has at his disposal now that Santi Cazorla has returned. Wenger has warned us that the rotation will continue. Let’s agree now to take it on the chin when it arrives.

Gus Poyet Has a Job On His Hands….
The Sunderland heads looked to drop as soon as Swansea earned the advantage at the Liberty. Following that opener, it was one-way traffic with the only surprise the fact that Michu didn’t crash the party with a goal in the 4-0 win. Poyet looked to make his mark on the teamsheet with changes but clearly faces an epic task to lift the spirits and the resolve at the Stadium of Light. We wondered if we could possibly cash in on the “Poyet effect” with some cheap or mid-price differential assets – from Saturday’s showing, it would appear that’s unlikely, at least for now. It’s the Tyne-Wear derby up next for Poyet – that gives him an early opportunity to win over the fans; or perhaps lose them forever just two games in. I can’t help think this is not the Premier League “challenge” Poyet would have wanted.

You can add Townsend to the Spurs midfield mix…
It was written in the stars that Andros Townsend would cap his fortnight with England with a goal for Spurs. When it arrived, it was fortunate and also ironic that, given that Townsend has fired in shots from range all season, it took a crossed ball attempt for him to notch his first league goal.

Fantasy managers have suddenly woken up to his potential – only Ozil has seen more transfers in the Gameweek so far, as we scramble to the latest Tottenham midfield asset in hope that this is “the one” that will emerge as the key candidate. With Christian Eriksen benched, Gylfi Sigurdsson under pressure with both Aaron Lennon and Erik Lamela available, it looks a straight tussle between Townsend and Paulinho.

The price tag of 5.6 has obvious appeal and, while there’s long-term doubts his starting role, Townsend’s form is strong enough to see him rise to that challenge. Can he find consistent returns to justify a spot as a fourth midfielder, though? Or, at just 5.6, is he being brought in as a bench option on rotation?

The Spurs midfield continue to provide more questions than answers this season. It was so much easier when Gareth Bale was about.

Moyes needs Januzaj…
I’m certain that Adnan Januzaj will be “managed” carefully by David Moyes. That we’ll see times when he’ll be kept from the cauldron and introduced late on to influence matches. Right now, however, Moyes needs the spark provided by the 18-year-old as his side continues to grind through matches without the fluidity and verve of their Manchester rivals.

It’s good news for Januzaj and certainly those who have taken a punt on the 4.9 midfield prospect. It remains to be seen if he is given Champions League pitch time – start on the bench on Wednesday and we can be pretty certain that we’ll see him face Stoke at Old Trafford. It seems unlikely that Moyes will risk turning back to the inconsistencies of Ashley Young on the left flank when his team is already struggling to cling to their title ambitions.

Pochettino won’t help Lambert make the plane to Rio…
We’ve seen Rickie Lambert sacrificed before and so it proved at Old Trafford on Saturday. Once a sound mid-price investment up front, he’s slipped dramatically in our thinking, not least because the heavy-hitting form strikers have become so established. Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to sacrifice the striker in order to flood the midfield inflicted further damage and has us set on Adam Lallana as the one source of attacking points within a hugely-improved Saints lineup. You have to feel for Lambert, however. In a make-or-break season that will decide if he gets the opportunity to play a World Cup, his chances look slim as he struggles for form with his regular Southampton starting role in question.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

After a terrible start I'm now starting to climb. Really happy with my squad for the next few weeks but if anyone can see any holes let me know:

    Mignolet / Boruc
Ivanovic / Dawson / Fonte / Coleman / Whittaker (Whittaker will go when I get chance)
    Oscar / Ramsey / Yaya / Ozil / Januzaj
    Lukaku / Giroud / Sturridge

    Yaya to Silva??????

You're team would be so sexy with Silva instead of Yaya. But for this week, not worth it. I think Yaya has a better chance of scoring vs Chelsea than Silva. But very nice team indeed I must say I am rather jealous. Could do with Michu though.

I would prefer Oscar/Hazard/Silva to Michu. I would do GJ and Benteke > Chico and £9.5m ST (Giroud, Soldado, Lukaku) until Benteke hits form.

But if you want to keep Tekkers in then i would also leave GJ in and don't touch anything. The rest of the team looks good.

I had Nastasic and got rid for Chico last week (Demichelis and Kompany on their way back).

I can do Coleman to GJ or Walker to GJ. But I can't see how much more productive he will be than those two at the moment.

I was that sad guy this week who e-mails FPL towers. Out of confusion more than anything. Hazard's goal that deflected off E'too was awarded to Hazard whereas Lovren's shot that deflected off Lallana was awarded to Lallana.

    Their reply was:
'Eden Hazard, and not Samuel Eto'o, has been awarded the first Chelsea goal vs. Cardiff, as despite the ball appearing to deflect ever so slightly off Eto'o. Hazard's shot was on target.'

But Lovren's header was on target too, what's the difference?

Rooney has had some big scores in Europe, but yea in PL this year so far he has been consistent but not explosive.
However, historically we all know hes capable of of the massive FPL scores. If anything he's breaking his trend at the moment by not providing the big scores as he has in previous seasons.

Gotta look at other statistics not just the individual. Rooney is part of a struggling team and to be honest it would all be fixture related, Stoke are defensively weak however I personally jumped the gun a tad as I doubt I would be captaining Rooney.

Ozil is an entirely different matter. No question he has been better at home where he is more comfortable but the midfield is becoming more settled now, injured players have returned and Ozil is clearly more and more fitting in so to speak. We look to CP's home defensive record. It seems solid. But lets take a closer look and realise that Spurs only scored 1 when they were essentially a brand new team and their other home match was against a limp Sunderland. Following that they ran into Swansea, who have some structure and conceded 2 at home.

Every time CP come up against a coherent side they concede a good deal. Now whether that indicates Ozil, Giroud, Ramsey or another as a best pick is a different story but Ozil has always had an eye for goal and his confidence in becoming a big goal scorer for Arsenal is starting to develop. Could all be incorrect but he's been looking supremely confident.

Oh and as for Rooney, I believe he should have scored that 1 on 1, he hit the crossbar and pretty sure another near miss from VP came from a Rooney pass?

While United are struggling Rooney could have easily walked away with 2 goals and 1 assist.

I've decided now to use the next 3 weeks to set up a team that has great fixtures from gw 12 to gw 20. That covers the xmas period as that is when most of the points are scored, so hopefully i'll rapidly climb the rankings.

Well, I looked at the ticker and recorded the top 5 teams with the strongest fixture for each gw and came to the conclusion that defensivly: Liverpool, West Ham, Everton and Hull have the best games. Attacking wise: West Ham, Liverpool, Newcastle and Swansea have the best games for goals.

          So my team will be:

          Mignolet, Speroni
          Coleman, Rangel, Lovren, Reid, Chester
          Ozil, Michu, Ramsey, Amalfitano, Morrison

Thats what I did. What an absolute shambles the Arnautovic punt was. I fully expect him to punish us with some kind of random unexpected haul in the next few weeks. Probably against United or something equally annoying.

I was lucky enough to have the funds for Özil.

The whole experience was frankly upsetting. I really thought I'd get a jump on my rivals there. Bah.

    First leg on Nov.15
    Second leg on Nov.19

    The draw in full:

    Portugal vs Sweden
    Ukraine vs France
    Greece vs Romania
    Iceland vs Croatia

Teams drawn first play their home games Nov.15th.

4 winning teams after both legs qualify for World Cup.

    Michu, Paulinho, Ramsey, Brady, Januzaj
    Suarez, Giroud, Lukaka

    1FT, 7.7m ITB

Not owning Ozil has hurt me and I reckon he's a season keeper apart from injuries.

    Kosc-->Clyne
    Paulinho/Brady-->Ozil for a hit?

Which one to ditch Paulie or Bradens? Other suggestions/pressing issues you'd recommend?

Definitely time to go for Özil. I might be more inclined to upgrade Januzaj, though, don't think he will start every week. And how about Chester>Clyne, in case Dawson or Vidic are rested...? You'll still have money ITB…

I'd def do Brady --> Ozil if you have the cash for that, saving the option to upgrade Paulinho for the week after. He did look quite threatening vs villa. Kosc --> Clyne is a decent move to free up the Arse spot. Alternatively you can consider Oscar/Silva as long term options

I gotta a good team this week, but guess most are sayng the same with the fixtures
Arsenal , Spurs , united , Pool all with nice ones ...even Swansea

Guess its going to come down to captaining the big player that hits

    Vorm ( Mashall)

    GJ , Coleman , Clyne

Paulinho , Michu, Siggy , Barkley

    Giroud , RVP , Suarez

How would you go with , one of the forwards I presume but who ?

    Hey, lads. Looking for some advice. Saw the thread about Mark`s team and it all looked very familiar. Considering wildcard, or just a couple of hits to preserve it. Team is as follows;

    Migs/Boruc
    Zaba/Ivan/Wilson/WardFigueroa
    Brady/Moses/Ozil/Michu/Whittingham
    Giroud/Sturridge/Rooney

So the things i dont like are; Keepers dont rotate, Soton`s fixtures severly toughen up and Liverpool arent really keeping clean sheets anymore.
Zabaleta getting rotated along with City`s lack of cs is bad. Wilson beeing out of the team is bad, and owning a Palace player in itself is bad.
Moses isnt getting the points, and now with Johnson/Allen/Coutinho all edging towards match fitness, he`ll probably lose his spot shortly. Whittingham really doesnt offer that much either.
Rooney up front is also kind of meh, United are underperforming and i feel like theres better value in someone else.

I know most of you will be like tl;dr, but i hope someone takes the time to reply. Cheers, Psycho.

Zaba was probably just an international thing. He will not be rotated much. Migs and Boruc are season keeper keepers surely.

Your main problem is that you only have two good defenders. You need to be looking at Wilson out for a swansea defender perhaps.

Don't worry about attack...long term consider Rooney out for Benteke or Aguero..but for now keep, especially with Stoke and Fulham coming up. Perhaps consider keeping Rooney and ditching Giroud for Benteke. Giround and Ozil is a lot of Arsenal and their fixtures are not great.

Midfield - the only real issue is Moses and Whittingham. Ozil and Michu are great premium mid picks...three is tricky so if you want another heavy hitter you need to ditch one of them.

There's really not an awful lot wrong with that team.

Yeah sorry, just realized that my post got bottomed and wanted some help. Cheers for the advice though. I`ve been wanting to ship Wilson, but i cant do it without losing Moses which means taking a hit for a cheap midfielder. Guess i could do Moses/Wilson -> Townsend/Dawson, which would give me decent Spurs cover. Problem with that though is that i`d have to get Townsend in tonight before the rise, or i won`t be able to afford.
