As the fallout from last weekend’s Premier League action continues to rumble on courtesy of Wayne Rooney’s mouth, our Fantasy scores have been set in stone and we can look back at how the 256 Fantasy Managers fared in the second round of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup IV. The full set of results can be accessed right here, and what follows is a summary of highs (and lows) of the round…

We’ll start with the top-scorer of the week cm1mds, who notched an impressive tally of 79 and soundly beat Loves when carlo reads out team on a friday by 16 points in the process. That was easily the highest aggregate scoring tie of the round, involving the 1st and 15th top-scorers for the round, with the loser having the best score not good enough to progress.

The biggest win of the second round came when Cescy_11 thrashed daiHai 71 – 24, putting an almighty 47 point gulf between them.

As for the lowest-scoring match-ups in the round, the 26 – 26 draw between Afc Chameleon and Fatmag totalled the fewest points in a game, with 10,710th Afc Chameleon progressing at the expense of his 118,460th ranked opponent.

The poorest individual score went to Aggronaut, who amassed an abysmal 13 points giving opponent MartinB an easy passage into the third round despite his score being two points below the rounds average (45).

Other than the one mentioned above there were two other drawn games, with Morpheus and newman edging kiggs85 and Dan_797 respectively, by virtue of their superior overall ranks.

Moving on to the glamour tie of the round and, oh so predictably, it was Gooner dave who ran-out a 44-30 winner against Goose. The slightly more competitive undercard bout to that main event, saw Locarno eliminate Breakballartist 58 – 55.

Any hopes of a dream match-up between Jonty and JauntyJonty were dashed at the weekend, with JauntyJonty succumbing 45 – 34 to mathsgeek. The FFS Cup II champ marches on however, after creaming Milky 55 – 49.

Another potential fairytale coming to an abrupt end was qualifier #512 RonnayBarkay‘s 61 – 47 exit at the hands of jottonolan.

The Scout Contributor’s have been cut in half again, with da Beeeez now the last remaining Scout involved. He made light work of Foolsgold, seeing him off 58 – 39. Big Dunc on the other-hand was comfortably beaten 48 – 35 by Yanky.

Congratulations to the 128 Fantasy Managers advancing, and commiserations to those leaving the competition at this stage. The third round draw for the Fantasy Football Scout Cup IV will be announced in the next 48 hours.

    Accent/language/North/South debate!

I have no problem with peeps from the South calling grass grarse, or glass glarse as these are universal words and open to interpretation. I get really annoyed though when Southerners call Nani 'Narni' or Glasgow 'Glarsgow'!
They are pronounced Glazgo and Nanny because that is their name, not open to interpretation!

Glasgow is the English name for the city, so if you speak in recived pronounciation, your interpretion is right.

to be fair your comment doesn't make sense because in Scotland the sound 'a' in can and in 'glasgow' is the same... like a long aaaah sound. But in English accents the 'a' sounds are BOTH different to the Scottish one, but in different ways.

Scots don't say Glasgow in the same way that someone from Manchester does, for example. It's "glasgow' vs 'glaaasgow' vs 'glarsgo'.

          They're accents, get over it!

I was about to say I agree wholeheartedly. But does that mean we should call the capital of France Paree, and that city in the south of Germany Moon-chyen?

So are we all wrong when we call it Paris rather than Pa-ree as the French call it or Berlin when the Germans pronounce it Bare-leen. If Paris and Berlin are open to our interpretation, why not other names? And let's not mention Boulogne, eh? Or are we right and they're wrong in the way they pronounce their own place names? As ever, life's never that simple. Not that any of this matters of course but just joining in.

          Irrelevant, Akers.

A penalty is a penalty. It makes no difference whether its given against a team that is outplaying another team or not.

Chelsea could have missed the penalty for all we know. But they still should have been given the opportunity to have done so.

akers this proves what exactly? looks to me the contact is finally made in the third still when ramires is on the line, the line belongs to the area, aka a penalty.

To me it looks like contact is made in the second screen and is (fractionally) outside the box. Obviously a foul, but I'm not sure it's a penalty.

to be honest akers in normal time i thought foul!, but also outside the area. just don't think these pics prove anything. admittedly evra's leg is extremely close to ramires' leg in the first 3 and looks like it's skimming it in all 3, just think it's impossible to prove one way or the other

Yeah fair enough, it's close and that's the point. It's not "definitely a penalty" though (and it's not "definitely outside the box").

i want to know why the 4th and 5th still have been left off, maybe they show where the first meaningful contact takes place 😉
in my head benefit of the doubt should always go to the defending team, in which case free kick to chelsea (let's be honest it was a foul). but i think if he then gives it it would be extremely hard for the ref to not send evra off for denying a goalscoring opportunity

                    Phew! Panic over.

That post is very much sarcastic, most likely after having to listen to weeks worth of posts from Utd fans criticising him.

                    Nice try though.

Yeah i've seen Jamsiep laugh at united fans for ripping on Carrick plenty of times.

Doesn't quite have the same kick to it.

Now if you wanted to start bringing up the number of united fans who have said it sincerely, that might be more fun....

'Heroic Crick' has been hiding twixt shadows & sunshine for many many moons. What was peculiar about him tonight was that he looked to play the ball forward, didn't give the ball away regularly, & timed tackles quite well. I firmly believe he was possessed.

I thought when Torres moved he was gonna be happy again and get back to his early Anfield days? I liked his attitude in the first couple of seasons at Liverpool coz he would get chopped down etc but he would just get on with it, now (admittedly not as much tonight) he just seems like a petulant little moaner. I'm sure he will probably come good eventually but he needs to sort his attitude out.

Plus I wasnt having any of this "Rooney back to his best" malarkey going around over the last few months but he now seems like he's getting their, I think he'll be a big FPL player till the end of the season now.

Also I agree with what your saying, your attackers aren't the problem, theirs no cutting edge / creative in your midfield at the moment, it just seems to work-man like at the moment.

Same, I don't think u can deny Rooneys lives and breathes footy, even thru his poor patch. As I said with Torres I think a lot of it is he's a bit burnt out plus he just can't work in a partnership with Drogba IMO. I'm baffled Carlo has moved away from the 4-3-3, the diamond didn't work so went 4-3-3, it worked yet he's changed the system again, seems strange to me. I think Drogba will go in the summer and then Torres up top flanked by a couple of decent wingers will see him firing again.

Seriously, i don't get why some of you united fans are even focusing on this decision at the end. The first one was a blatant penalty (note: in the area) that you got away with - it happens to everyone from time to time.

Just a good little bit of fortune to it. You're making yourselves look a bit silly by harping on about karma etc given how often you seem to come out with the better decisions (maybe not against Chelsea, but bigger picture?), or trying to claim it was outside the area?

Come on, by the sounds of it you were deserved winners, stop clutching at straws to try and validate a decision which just came down to a bit of good fortune.

I should point out, by you, i don't really mean *you*.

Well tbf he has every right to be annoyed about the penalty that should have been?

What i mean is you moan about those decisions when they go against you, when you get them you should be happy and thankful for it - the constant harping on about how unlucky united have been over the years and about how the first (blatant) penalty wasn't really a penalty come across as a bit desperate!

I'm not helping here, but I'm intrigued to hear what Akers has to say...

Firstly, you admit that the bigger sides get more incorrect decisions in their favour than the so-called 'lesser sides'. You then also say, annoyingly often, that Utd are the biggest team in the country - which they unquestionably are. Does it not then follow that because Utd are the biggest team in the country, they get more incorrect decisions in their favour than any other side?

        Your logic doesn't work here.

Don't forget, this is the man who thinks just because united have a single decision go against them in any game, that the notion that united could possibly get more incorrect decisions for them has been disproved beyond all doubt.

It is a "precious away goal" because if you fail to score away in the first leg the danger of conceding in the return leg is massive.

The 1-0 win means United can't win on away goals, but it significantly reduces the chances that they will lose on them. That's why it' precious,

Would you rather take a 1-1 or 1-0 away result or a 0-0? it's simple, away goal is an away goal it means that your opponents has to go it in the 2nd leg and the pressure is on them rather than you who will be sweating over it had they have not gotten an away goal in the first leg.

In this case it's not counted any different to a home goal, that's the point that is being made here. It's worth 1 goal, no more no less.

Exactly, the away goal will never count as 'double' when it's a 0-1 win. I've argued against this before.
If they talk about it in running before the end of the game that's fine, after the result it's just stupid.

I reckon they should have the Catchphrase random number buzzer before the match. The home manager presses the button and whatever number they land on is what the away goals are multiplied by for that leg only.

What he means is that one “away” goal makes no odds in terms of them being able to win on away goals because 0-1 next leg would see extra time and 1-2 they would lose So it is therefore just a precise goal 🙂

😛 a bit of a random example. problem is also the good things he does in his new role are often pretty minor, things like interceptions don't exactly grab your attention. instead of judging him by goals, assists etc judge carrick by the results of the team when he's in it imo. he'll quietly help a team tick.

    summary of tonight.

    United were the better team.

Chelsea should have had someone sent off with two yellows, either essien or ramires.

Chelsea werent given a penalty that should have been given (no guarantee they score it, drogba was off, lampard has missed a fair few recently)

People on Fantasy football scout talk meaningless shite for the following 90 minutes.

jamsiep does his level best to be the centre of attention for said 90 minutes by posting meaningless drivel.

Other notable contributors seek to make TitsieP centre of attention for the next 90 minutes out of some sick net-crush.

As usual in big games, a big refereeing decision was wrong. What's new?

There's the second leg to come.

    The end.

I honestly have no idea what people think that Essien and Ramires should have been sent off for though.

I'm also intrigued as to why Zhirkov was booked for a high boot, but Ferdinand completely got away with kicking both Torres and Malouda in the face.

Rafael could have easily had two yellows as well. Firstly for blocking off Ashley Cole in the first half, and then for that cynical block on Drogba in the second. I hope he wrecked his cruciates in the process of making that 'tackle'.

Despite playing 39 mins of CFC v MUFC at right-back, A Valencia created more goalscoring chances than any other player. Utility.

Michael Carrick made 7 interceptions v Chelsea, at least three more than any other player in the game. Decisive.

Man Utd have now equalled Arsenal's (05-06) record of five successive away clean sheets in a single European Cup campaign. Stout.

Carricks first year, the year we snatched back the league after a 4 year drought, he was awesome. Everyone talked about Ronaldo's emergence that year but for me Carrick was United's player of the season.

No it isn't, just because two stars left people think that. Top of the league, FA Cup semi, CL quarter.

We're less flashy, more efficient! Midfield needs work though.

I don't know about last 10 years, but it's definitely the weakest team since 07/08. Doesn't mean they're not currently the best in the UK, obviously. They'll win the title and they'll deserve it. But no question the standard has dropped each season-it's just dropped less than their rivals.

A few months ago Rooney couldn't score against anyone, let alone the shit teams!

Being serious though, you guys have been pretty below your usual standards this season imo, to still be rinsing the league and in 2 other competitions is seriously impressive in light of that - people harp on about that is what champions are made of etc. alot but i think there is a fair bit of weight in that.

Topics that weren't touched on by anti united brigade and Db just because we won.

How can Berbetov not still be playin in these games.

Berbetov should stick it up united's and leave in the summer.

      Usual anti Hernandez statements

Rooney is this and that etc has done squat etc etc....

Was thinking earlier about what my team of the season would be, and I genuinely think that Rooney would be in it. My memory from back when he was shit is letting me down, so perhaps I'm letting the last few weeks cloud my judgement. I'm loathe to put Tevez in, and having just looked at the numbers, Rooney is involved in more goals per minute (goals + assists) in the league this season, and Tevez has scored significant more penalties. I only mention Tevez because other than him, I can't think of anyone who has a legitimate claim to being in the team of the season alongside Berbatov. Perhaps RVP, but he hasn't played enough football really....

    Anyhoo:

    Foster
    Sagna Kompany Vidic Assou-Ekotto
    Nani Holden Modric Nasri
    Berbatov Rooney

Yeah but putting stats aside you can't possibly try to tell me Tevez hasn't been absolutely instrumental for City this season.

I think he's quality, and by his standards has had a quality season.

I rate Rooney as a player, this season by his standards has been woeful though, he's been good the last couple of months (and he looks pretty deadly now) but the first half of his season was a bit of a joke.

Until last weekend against Bolton, he hadn't gone consecutive starts without either a goal or an assist. Pretty impressive by anyone's standards.

I realise that I'm being pretty hypocritical with all this, because I firstly don't think that Rooney is nearly as good as the media and certain people like to make out, and I secondly think that he's had a poor season by his standards, but there really isn't anyone else out there who I would say as been any better than him. Which is perhaps more of a reflection on the other forwards in the league, not on Rooney himself....

I'd say everyone who responded to it. Apart from your post obviously. 🙂

Shogun, TommyK, Supermanderson, AP, Greg, Akers and presumably countless others.

I'd go along with most of that, although I think I'd put VDS ahead of Foster and at this moment in time I'd have Rooney behind RVP and Tevez. Rooney is In form though and by the end of the season could be in my team of the year.

Perhaps, RE Foster. I just didn't want to pack the team with players from the top clubs.

Although given my reasoning for never including Parker and Adam in these things - the reasoning being that West Ham and Blackpool are in shit positions in the league - it's pretty hypocritical including Foster.

VDS though, really? Can't remember him doing anything of note, which I guess can be seen as a good thing for a keeper. Cracking save tonight mind you....

The fact that I can remember so clearly that clanger he dropped against West Brom shows just how little he makes blunders like that.

Don't agree with Foster. He could make 10000 saves, but I would never feel as assured as I would with VDS, Reina, Cech.

Agreed with Akers and Granville i'd rather have VDS than Foster.

Also Baines over A&E every day of the week.

Baines is excellent going forward, but not all that defensively IMO. I think Everton have conceded something like 60% of their goals from opposition attacks down their left. ZonalMarking did an article on it a while back, about how Everton's left is their biggest (attacking) strength, but also their biggest (defensive) weakness.

meh, A&E is like that, just without the good going forward part.

Serious liability, i don't rate him one bit.

Enrique has been better than BAE and Baines.
