The current campaign had started so successfully for Christian Benteke. A brace away to Arsenal and strike at Chelsea helped the Villa forward rack up 18 points in double Gameweek 1, as he wasted no time in continuing the form that harvested 14 goals in his final 17 appearances of 2012/13.

Having also found the net against Newcastle, Benteke rolled up to Norwich in Gameweek 5 on the back of four goals in as many matches but a hip problem forced him out of the Carrow Road clash with less than half an hour on the clock and pressed pause on his Fantasy season.

Returning to action from the bench in Gameweek 8, the big Belgian has now gone four appearances without finding the net for Paul Lambert’s side yet, with a favourable schedule on the horizon, has risen in price to 8.9 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) since the start of the international break. With West Brom, Sunderland, Fulham, Stoke and Palace in the next seven Gameweeks, Villa’s schedule suggests there’s reason for optimism if he can rediscover his form. In this latest article for members we analyse Benteke’s displays before and after injury to assess whether he’s been toiling since his return.

Rodríguez, of Spanish descent,[2] was born in Burnley, Lancashire, the son of Enrique (Kiko) and Carol Rodríguez (née Threlfall). He attended Heasandford Primary School and Barden High School[2] in the town. His father trialled for Deportivo de La Coruña before spending some time at Burnley in 1983. (Wikipedia)

Personally I wouldn't get Cabaye, his stats don't really add up to promising returns. Snodgrass is an alright option considering his price.

If you're selling Oscar I would get Coutinho

So, cards on the table, is there any chance Yaya Toure is the real deal this season?

I compared his stats this season to last season and there isn't a dramatic difference anywhere apart from goals scored (and goals scored from set pieces obviously!).

Yet he's already scored 5 goals. Now, you could reason that his attempts from set pieces cannot continue at the current rate. However, he's consistently scored 6 goals a season for the last 3 seasons *without* being on set pieces. So, theoretically, this + set pieces means we could reasonably expect maybe up to 10 more goals from Toure this season.

This, combined with the fact he's nailed on in a very attacking team surely makes him worth considering - doesn't it? Or am I reasoning myself into 'Casual' status? 😉

Yeah agreed - Though I'm not sure I could trust Silva in my team. He's consistent when he plays but he also seems consistently injured.

I think the fact you took the time to compare his stats between seasons and interpret them plus what changed intelligently had moved you beyond casual.

Whether he is the real deal depends on where you set the bar for premium priced mids. Last season 10 goals and a few assists would not have cut it with the likes of mata, bale, Walcott, michu, fellaini all firing. This season 10 goals may be all you are getting from any Mf, though I expect a few to kick on from their slow start whilst toure plods on.

So toure had improved due to free kicks and alternatives have worsened meaning he is worth considering on that basis.

BUT I think the right approach is to think through alternative team structures and how you might otherwise use the money. Many teams on here for example now go with 3 premium strikers and a couple of premium defenders meaning only one premium Mf is affordable. This is working as there are plenty of decent budget Mf about who are returning good value. If you were picking 3 premium Mf like last year toure would have to be considered but with 1 I think there are better options.

Cheers. Good points. I think the scores so far definitely suggest that MID is the 'new DEF' (i.e. the place to save money). Provided they offer security of starts. The Barkley's and Januzaj's were good for making money (and could score still) but are using up FTs.

Since there is practically no activity here; lets get a question going. Who is the 'must' have player right now in FPL. As in who is the most desired player right now. For me it has to be Luis Suarez.

Liverpool and Arsenal are the 2 most in-form teams atm so it should be an attacker from one of these 2. Suarez for Liverpool and Ramsey Still for Arsenal unless Walcott hits form instantly upon his return.

Looking further down Aguero is very strong at home with Man City and Sessegnon of west brom have good fixtures and form.

Remy has strong form even if newcastle dont and has shown he can score twice and newcastle still lose. benteke will hit form again soon as well.

Jafalad, your rules are terrible. You should be happy that people are even bothering to contribute to what could be a fun game. You'll be lucky to have 26 people on the form at this time!
