The current campaign had started so successfully for Christian Benteke. A brace away to Arsenal and strike at Chelsea helped the Villa forward rack up 18 points in double Gameweek 1, as he wasted no time in continuing the form that harvested 14 goals in his final 17 appearances of 2012/13.

Having also found the net against Newcastle, Benteke rolled up to Norwich in Gameweek 5 on the back of four goals in as many matches but a hip problem forced him out of the Carrow Road clash with less than half an hour on the clock and pressed pause on his Fantasy season.

Returning to action from the bench in Gameweek 8, the big Belgian has now gone four appearances without finding the net for Paul Lambert’s side yet, with a favourable schedule on the horizon, has risen in price to 8.9 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) since the start of the international break. With West Brom, Sunderland, Fulham, Stoke and Palace in the next seven Gameweeks, Villa’s schedule suggests there’s reason for optimism if he can rediscover his form. In this latest article for members we analyse Benteke’s displays before and after injury to assess whether he’s been toiling since his return.

Having revived my faltering fantasy season with three explosive gameweeks I am aware I've taken my eye off the ball a bit as ironically I've not been watching so much football during this run (Suarez Aguero Rooney reduce the amount of decision making required). So several topics I'd be interested to hear a verdict on:

    1) Are Newcastle now getting CS for good?
Or is it another false dawn? Have they fundamentally become a tighter team, as they were conceding chances at a horrific rate in the recent past. Think losing 6-0 to Liverpool late last season.

    2) Sess v Amalfitano
West Brom seem pretty dangerous on the attack and have good fixtures, plus obviously budget pricing. Sess is significantly more expensive so will he score significantly more points than Amalfitano? I've always had a soft spot for Sess since his run two seasons ago, but am not sure the stats favour him enough for the extra budget. His goal against Chelsea was a goalkeeping howler from Cech. Amalfitano of course earlier in the season dribbled through United to score that sublime goal and assisted against Arsenal, so he's clearly got the talent too and still is barely above 5th mid pricing, at 5.2.

    3) Is Benteke due?
He's been racking up the shots and had a penalty saved against Everton (was a great save - he can't be blamed too much). Have Villa's injuries and switch to 3-5-2 played any part?

    4) Is the Villa defence really not crap?
    ...

      1) Tim Krul's heroics prevented Newcastle conceding a heap of goals last week - so buyer beware I say...

      1. Tighter yes but the best players to have are either potentially prone to rotation (Yanga-Mbiwa), get booked a lot (Debuchy), injured a lot (Coloccini) or in goal and more expensive than the defenders (Krul). Suggest waiting a week or two and seeing if the form continues and Y-M keeps his place. If he does he's a good 4th/5th defender to have during December

      2. Amalfitano. Much cheaper and rotates pretty well with Morrison in my team as easy to bench a 5.2, not so easy to bench a 6.6 regardless of fixtures. I can see returns from Amalfitano coming as early as Monday 🙂

      3. Absolutely due.

      4. Surprisingly as it may seem, they really aren't! But then I would say that as I bought Vlaar last week, played him and nabbed 7 pts 🙂

Cheers. Thinking along the same lines in general. Managed to end up with Amalfitano and Morrison too. Great value, just need to get the benching decisions right.

I'd consider yanga but if I eventually was convinced by Newcastle I'd go debuchy, really rate his attacking threat.

Been away for the past week with no internet access and trying to recover after a shocking last GW, my team looks like this:

    Boruc (Davis)

    Walker / Chico / Vidic

    Barkley / Coutinho / Oscar / Silva

    Sturridge / Rooney / Giroud

Bench: Davis / Jedinak / Clyne / Wilson

So silva out is a priority and looks like barkley has lost his starting place now?

Got 1FT and 0.3m in the bank.

Thoughts on Silva + Barkley -> Cabaye and Amalfitano for -4?

Do I need suarez in my life? This would leave me enough in the bank to do giroud -> suarez for GW13.

      Yes you need Suarez
      Not sure on cabaye
In your shoes I would prob do silva > sess this week and giroud to Suarez next week. With barkley i would not take the hit and give him another chance. Everton have not managed to score the 2 gsmes they dropped him.

so RVP's extra points or improve value elsewhere for better shot at points.

          I'd choose the latter.

    Ideas on this lot

    Etheridge / Mignolet
    Coleman / Wilson / Turner / Clyne / Dawson
    Brady / Barkley / Ramsey / Özil / Sessegnon
    Suárez / Lukaku / Agüero

1 FT, £3.4m in the bank.

    Which option?

    a) Upgrade Barkley
    b) Sell Wilson
    c) Sell Lukaku
    d) a) + b)
    e) b) + c)
    f) a) + c)
    g) save
    h) something else

    Thanks in advance. 🙂

Would like to share a little anecdote.

    Election day Australia 2013.

Lined up after some poor Chinese fellow walking into the claws of some 75yo true blue, dole bludging aussie who takes elections so seriously its beyond belief, (they do this so they can score the 300$ or so for participating in the elections)

Chinese guy, walks in to collect a Hourse of Reps and Senate ballot paper.

Old Fellow proceeds to ask him a question, "Have you voted in this election today?" he recites in a very strong Australian accent" but destitute of its full wrath due to his age.

Chinese guy , unfortunately for him did not speak a word of english so babbles out some random statement "oooo Yes sir, yes sir".

Aussie fellow: "Naw naw naw, Have you voted in this election TODAii"

Chinese fellow: "Ohhoo, yes sir, yes sirr". He continually says this while bobbing his head.

Aussie Fellow " NAW NAW NAW NAW NAW (Head down and waving his hands in the air violently), HAVVE YOU VOOOTED IN THIS ELECTION TODAIIIIIIII".

Chinese fellow "Ohh yes sir, yes sir"

Aussie Fellow: "NAW NAW NAW NAW NAW NAW NAW ( about to have a brain hemorrhage, goes completely red, waving violently), HAVE YOU VOTED IN THIS BLOODY ELECTION TODAIIIIII"

Lucky for old Kungfu panda, a lady walks and tries to talk some sense into the old fellow "I dont think he speaks english"

Old fellow " IT DOESENT MATTA, HES GOTA FOLLOW THE PWOCESS".

The lady finally escorts him and he finally casts his vote (god know what he wrote on the ballot paper).

Meanwhile, im sitting back pissing myself laughing. Old fellow returns to his seat and takes a ginormous deep breath "next please".

Apologies for my shitty grammar but im on an ipad

Any Spurs watchers out there? I'm thinking the time may be right for AVB to give Lamela his first Premier League start on the right and switch Townsend to the left

Eriksen's injury + Siggy playing two World Cup play-off games = two of the most influential and creative players likely to be missing against Manchester City?

The LB has been the only width spurs have had all season so whilst both Townsend and Lamela are left footed, Andros is more of a winger so putting him on his natural side would give him the option to get to the byline and cross the ball as well as cut back in and take shots with his right foot. This gives the team better balance.

By contrast, with the amount of time Walker spends on the overlap Lamela playing inverted on the right wouldn't make any difference to the team set-up just give them more of a striker in that position. They need goals and he can provide them.

Having came on late against Cardiff to turn the game with a late assist he hasn't really has a chance since but with Clichy a bit of a liability form wise and Kolarov not exactly known for his quickness this looks an ideal opportunity to spring a surprise.

    Thoughts?
