Theo Walcott could be poised for a return to action this weekend. Luis Suarez is set to use a private jet to arrive back quickly ahead of the Merseyside derby. Christian Benteke could miss out for Belgium tonight as a precaution. Roy Hodgson explains Daniel Sturridge’s shortened training session, while Shola Ameobi grabs a goal and assist as Nigeria draw with Italy:

Walcott Back in Training

Reports in the Mail and Mirror claim the Arsenal winger is in line for a comeback at home to former club Southampton this weekend. Walcott has failed to play since Gameweek 4 after undergoing abdominal surgery but is believed to have returned to full training as he closes in on a comeback.

The Scout Says: With the Gunners set for three home games in four and a trip to Cardiff, Fantasy managers will be eagerly awaiting an update from Arsene Wenger later in the week. Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil currently sit in 58% and 32% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) teams, whereas Walcott – with an ownership under 4% and now down to 9.1 – would offer a superb differential route into the league leaders’ midfield. Wenger’s use of Santi Cazorla upon return from injury is perhaps telling – the Spaniard was shifted immediately back into the starting XI after proving his fitness, though has yet to manage a full 90 minutes. With the Gunners failing to score in the previous Gameweek for the first time this term, Walcott’s pace and directness down the right would be a huge asset against one of the most resilient defences around.

Suarez Set to Jet Back Early

Liverpool owner John Henry is reported to have offered the club’s star forward use of his private jet on Wednesday night in order to ensure he arrives home quickly from Uruguay’s World Cup play-off with Jordan.
The Scout Says: The news will be welcome relief for Brendan Rodgers and Fantasy managers alike ahead of the Merseyside derby on Saturday lunchtime. Given that the Jordan match doesn’t take place until late Wednesday night, Suarez would essentially be back in the UK on Thursday night at the earliest if he sticks to the scheduled flights – such a scenario would give his little time for recuperation. Henry’s offer, though, suggests Suarez will be back on these shores quickly and afforded enough time to recover – with four sets of double figures in his six appearances, his contribution will be key against a Toffees backline that has now gone three games with conceding.

Hodgson Plays Down Sturridge Problems

The England manager explained the reason behind Sturridge’s early exit from training yesterday, amid reports the forward had suffered an injury recurrence. Hodgson – who has also named fit-again Steven Gerrard in his starting line-up to face Germany – insisted he merely wanted to hand Rickie Lambert the opportunity to impress ahead of this evening’s match:

“He’s [Sturridge] fine. Last week he obviously couldn’t take much part in training but his injury, which he brought with him from his club, is improving all the time. The reason he came off after two sectors – if you like – of the game we were playing this morning, was to give Rickie Lambert a chance also playing at centre-forward because there’s a good chance, and we want to see him play tomorrow night as well as Daniel Sturridge.”

The Scout Says: As mentioned in yesterday’s Scribbles, Sturridge’s return to fitness is reassuring for his 36% FPL owners – the most popular forward in the game, despite over 86,000 transfers out this week. Gerrard and Lambert’s new owners will be relieved by their availability – they’ve been acquired by over 15,000 and 14,000 respectively in light of their recent displays. After a slow start to the season, the Liverpool skipper has produced goal or assist in five of the last six, while Lambert has notched in three of his last four home games for Southampton. The pair have contrasting schedules up next, though; while Gerrard (and Sturridge) have three home games against Norwich, West Ham and Cardiff and a trip to Hull in the next six, Lambert faces a tough task to justify the recent investment, with games against Arsenal, City, Chelsea and Tottenham over the same period.

Martinez Unconcerned by Goal Drought

The Everton manager revealed he is not worried by his side’s lack of clinical edge in recent matches.

“We are better now than we were in August and in February we have to be at a better level. The goalscoring ability of a team is very important. You are going to be successful in a season if you are solid defensively and have a threat of scoring goals. Scoring goals will come more often once we get the understanding of the players. We have goals in the side, I’m not worried about that. The focus is on the strikers but it is the wrong focus.”

The Scout Says: The Toffees failure to score at home to Spurs in Gameweek 10 was perhaps understandable but, somewhat worryingly for Romelu Lukaku owners, a blank away to Palace the following week was the first time this season the Eagles have mustered a clean sheet. Clearly, Martinez is yet to strike a balance within his side – a series of three clean sheets was preceded by a run of eight goals conceded in four , with Lukaku netting four times. It seems that an upturn in defensive solidity has had a knock-on effect on the big Belgian’s goal threat – with Liverpool, United and Arsenal in the next four, the Merseysiders could well struggle to produce returns at either end of the pitch.

Benteke Knee Concerns Played Down

The Villa forward may be set to miss out for Belgium against Japan tomorrow evening with a knee knock. According to reports in the local press, however, his potential absence is no more than a precautionary measure after he picked up the problem against Colombia last week.

The Scout Says: Bearing in mind that Villa’s next league game is not until next Monday evening, Paul Lambert will be optimistic of having his main forward available in time. The Villa boss had publicly discussed his desire for Benteke to be treated with caution over the internationals, having only just welcomed him back from injury last month – it seems likely the Belgian authorities are taking no chances after Benteke complained of soreness during training. With Gabby Agbonlahor and Andreas Weimann still doubts, Benteke’s availability is crucial for Villa – all the more so given that they roll up to the Hawthorns for a derby at West Brom.

Osvaldo Set for Tests

Lambert’s Southampton team-mate Pablo Osvaldo will undergo tests upon returning from international duty after suffering an allergic reaction during Italy’s game against Germany on Friday. Osvaldo was forced off before the hour mark and required injections to stabilise his condition, according to national team doctors.

“Going off the field, Osvaldo had a pretty strong allergic reaction, so he needed an anti-histamine injection. Now his condition has stabilised and there’s nothing to worry about. It’ll be wise for him to have some tests and find out what it is he’s allergic to. The allergic reaction came out in a rash, but when it inflates the throat then it can impede breathing and become very serious indeed.”

The Scout Says: The scare is the latest setback for the former AS Roma forward, who has struggled to make his mark in the Premier League since arriving this summer. Osvaldo scored 16 times in Serie A last term but has so far netted just once for the Saints and has managed just 15 minutes in the last three league games after only just returning from a knock sustained in training. If Mauricio Pochettino decides to court caution with his record signing, the likes of Jay Rodriguez and James Ward-Prowse may be set for further starts as the Saints boss opts for a lone striker system to deal with the tricky afore-mentioned run of games.

Williamson Hopes to Retain Starting Role

The Newcastle centre-half discussed the recent upturn in resilience which has harvested back-to-back clean sheets. Williamson has struck up a partnership with Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa in recent weeks and admitted while he’s wary of a return for fit-again Fabricio Coloccini, he is optimistic Alan Pardew will retain a consistency of selection in light of his side’s impressive displays:

“I’m just grateful to get the opportunity. As long as the results keep coming like the last couple of weeks, I’m sure he’ll keep the same. That’s testament to the manager that he keeps going with a winning formula. We’ve been defending from the front as a unit. Me and Mapou individually I think we’ve both played well but it has been a collective effort. Colo is a world class player and we’ll see on Saturday to know. But it will only be a matter of time before he gets back in. He’s a fantastic leader around the changing room but it will change from one week to the next.”

The Scout Says: Williamson’s installation to the XI has coincided with a turnaround in fortunes for the Tyneside team. Starting each of the last five, he has offered a cut-price route in Pardew’s defence at 4.4 and with Coloccini and Steven Taylor both suffering from injuries, his place had looked assured. Coloccini’s return to fitness, allied with Mathieu Debuchy’s one-match suspension next time around, may see the versatile Yanga-Mbiwa move to right-back and allow Williamson to strike up a partnership alongside the Argentine in the heart of defence. With back-to-back home games against Norwich and West Brom, investment in Newcastle is picking up pace but with uncertainty still surrounding Pardew’s preferred XI, many will choose to stay away right now.

Tyne-Wear Duo in the Goals

Newcastle’s Shola Ameobi and Sunderland new boy Emanuel Giacherrini both found the net in a pulsating match between Nigeria and Italy at Craven Cottage last night. The Magpies forward produced a goal and assist in the 2-2 draw, while the Black Cats wide man grabbed his nation’s equaliser during the second period.

The Scout Says: While Fantasy investment in Giacherrini and his Sunderland team-mates is likely to be placed on hold until after back-to-back home games against Chelsea and Spurs in Gameweeks 14 and 15, Ameobi seems to be picking up in confidence since returning to the Newcastle XI. The forward has started the last three in all competitions for Alan Pardew’s side and has played a pivotal role alongside Loic Remy up top following the recent switch to 4-4-2 – granted, the Frenchman has been the one grabbing the goals but Ameobi’s role as target man has been key at a time when the likes of Hatem Ben Arfa and Papiss Cisse have found themselves on bench-warming duties. At 4.8 he’s one of the cheapest forwards around but despite last night’s display, it’s Remy – with seven goals in the last seven Gameweeks – who has been the most-wanted this week, with over 70,000 transfers in ahead of the weekend deadline.

    New wild card deployment suggestion.

When over 50% of the games are called off in a particular week, due to weather, before the winter WC expires, use your normal WC to ensure you have a full starting 11+.

So everyone else will have only 5/6 players, while we would have 11, we'd finally beat those casuals, woahhh hahaahah

Then use your winter WC at its earliest convenience, to get a good long term team back!

I is da evil genius 👿

Sticky sticky?? Community round up even??

If it's an RMT you're looking for, don't make it too long and structure it compactly, i.e

        playing GK
        playing DEFS
        playing MIDS
        playing FWs

Bench, FTs, money in the bank. Toss the (c) and (vc) in there somewhere as well.

First of all get a grav. Then give a bit of of background and write out your team (inc subs) in its entirety. How much you have in the back and put forward your own suggestions ie -

        A) RVP for Torres
        B) Gerrard for Elmo
        C) Baines for Kolarov

Also worthwhile suggesting if your proposed moves are free or for a hit.

Posts linking teams and saying 'HELP' dont really go down well imo.

...ok since it's Jonty's farewell hot topic...

        1.Don't use CAPS
        2.Link your team.
3.At least give us your thoughts...eg player A->B then C->D next week instead of just abusing our superior knowledge
        4. And for Gawd sake use a format that is not a pain reading...don't copy and paste from the FPL website. We are not interested in home/away, times of fixtures etc.

Formatting of the team is the first hurdle.

        This is a popular format:

        Mignolet
        Chester / Williams / Coleman
        Özil / Oscar / Ramsey / Barkley
        Agüero (vc) / Lukaku / Suárez (c)

        Lewis / Collins / Silva / Clyne

For the technically minded, installing a user-script called Scoutity helps a lot. It adds a button to your FPL page that formats your team for you just ready for copy-pasting here. You need to have greasemonkey or Tampermonkey installed.

        http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/152008

Big thanks to Jimnastics for that.

I think before you qualify for getting your team evaluated, you should have to make a minimum of 10 valuable replies to other posters first.

This carry on of part timers randomly showing up seeking advise, then just going away is not cool.

I don't mind RMT's per se (apart from the run up to the season begins or Jan WC time - too many), but if you are new and you are going to post RMT after RMT a bit of courtesy in responding to advise or thanking someone for taking the trouble to reply is mandatory IMO.

If somebody objects to a certain tactic or transfer, dont go start an argurment. After all you did ask them to rate your team. That being said, a thanks would be a nice gesture whatever the reply maybe.

Explanations (brief or long) are always helpful. If you want to tell someone their plans are stupid, at least explain why, rather then a blanket dismissal. A few facts/opinions behind your reason at least helps to explain yourself.

        Bad example:

Person 1) Should I do Ramsey to Townsend?
Person 2) No, that's a stupid move. (End of conversation)

        Good example:

Person 1) Should I do Ramsey to Townsend?
Person 2) No, Arsenal have better fixtures compared to Tottenham, and Ramsey is more nailed on then Townsend.

        Simple.

Boruc vs. Marshall, who'd you play?

Marshall have had impressive 51 saves so far, Boruc 26.
      Boruc 6 CS - Marshall 3 CS.
Boruc have only conceded 5 goals - Marshall 14.
      Boruc 60 BPS, 4 bonus total - Marshall 51 BPS, 5 total.

Cardiff have the home advantage, though I expect them to be crushed by United.
I don't fancy any of them to get a CS but think there's a bigger chance of Soton CS than a Cardiff CS.
However, do you think Marshall could get more save points? Like he did against Spurs at home, impressive 11 saves and 5 pts in total, even with the CS gone in stoppage time.

Odds in his favor. Save points in his favor. Home advantage. What more do you want? As you said neither will get any points to note, but yeah, I'd play Marshall. Sure Southampton have been solid this season, but it's Arsenal. At the Emirates...

A local clubber who was left “embarrassed and ostracized” when he threw his hands up too early during an extended trance drop has decided to sue the club for emotional distress. Johnathan Entwhistle is taking legal action against the nightclub, which cannot be named for legal reasons.

Mr. Entwhistle has said in his statement, “It’s taken humanity centuries to formulate the four bar phrase, it’s tradition. But then this maverick comes along and starts dropping fifth bars like they were coming into fashion. I threw my arms up four beats before the kick in and shouted my approval as is standard but I was alone in this action and it has caused much hurt and distress to me and those around me.”

“I’m now afraid to express approval about anything for fear of jumping the gun again and looking like some amateurish clown,” continued Mr. Entwhistle. “Clapping, nodding appreciatively and congratulating people are now off limits. I tried to congratulate my wife on a blowjob well done last week, but I spoke too early and orgasmed just as she was pulling her face away. She’s now blind in one eye.”

Fellow clubbers reported on the initial premature fist pump claiming, “We were so embarrassed for him. He looked so smug and “in the know” when he fist pumped. But when the beat didn’t kick in he just looked like a bemused, out of place, fool,” recounted one clubber. “He’s a good looking guy but after seeing that I find the notion of sex with him laughably unlikely, and I have very low standards.”

The club itself was also quick to respond saying “We stand by our music policy. The DJ in question has been here for years and this is the first time something like this has ever happened. We blame the increase in looping technology.”

Mr Entwhislte’s lawyers responded by saying, “We’ll take this all the way to Native Instruments if we have to. You can’t just go against years of tradition and expect to get away with it. This isn’t just some tradition you can throw away as useless like Catholicism, or monogamy.”

The DJ himself stated, “The plan was to build that extra bit of tension, to whip the crowd into a frenzy, whereby they couldn’t wait for the beat to kick back in. Obviously, it worked.”

Aye. Think a proven big hitter is a proven big hitter. Jumped onto Suarez the moment he was available. Same with Feo.

It's very different, considering Suarez wasn't injured and was guaranteed to start against a terrible defence.

All depends on Wengers comments i guess. But i'm inclined to jump in straight up. Especially with no one in mid putting their hand up and Michu needing replacement.

I need an arsenal player for the three games which follow this one. If he plays 20+ minutes this week, I'll be in for him in GW13 immediately (unless he is set for a price rise before GW12, which is highly unlikely). If he doesn't play, I may have to look elsewhere - cazorla probably.

I'm tempted but already have ramsey and ozil, so would need to decicde whether to treble up for a few games, bringing walcott in for oscar or lose one of ramsey or ozil. I think ramsey's time is coming to an end and 58%ownership is just stupid.

Is anyone even slightly worried that Rooney will be tired for the weekend?

      2 internationals...

When is the last time he was rested for Utd?

Meanwhile RVP is resting, waiting, just waiting to destroy Cardiff...

RVP was excluded because of injuries which he is unable to shake off which impact on his training, match fitness and form. Rooney thrives on playing football regularly.

scientist have discovered that the second tuesday of international week is the tipping point for many scouts.
after an in depth study they found that the extended period of blanks mixed in with the excitment of approaching game week build up to volcanic levels within some peoples heads, (see page 1 of this article for proof).
IT is exactly estimated that approximately around 5-10 scouts will implode by wednesday morning.

Those most in danger are the ones who have chosen to look at various booby pictures over the past week.

if this is you please hold your hand up and mark will refer you to scout clinic for help

Play Clyne or Burner this week? Thinking clyne because of potential attacking points.

          I'd play Burner.

Just to draw a line under the RVP/Rooney debate.

RVP has got 42 points in the last 5 GW's, Rooney has got 34 in the same period.

RVP missed the 2 games before that, due to injury, but he did score 3 goals in the first 4 games of the season (2 of those games were against Chelsea & Liverpool).

RVP also scored 2 goals in the Community Shield.

Conclusion: RVP's goals per minutes played is still top, top drawer.

So please continue not owning him, it should help my rank, thanks 🙂

PS - I own Aguero & Suarez already.

        Be scared...

What do we call the RVP-Suarez-Aguero fronline? Us owners should think of something.

But is his goals per games ratio currently worth an extra 3 mil?

I think so, as over the season, he will score more goals.

Where else would you spend that 3m?

I already have the most expensive front 3 & Hazard 🙂

I've been considering it too, also got Haz but what happens when another high mid becomes an option...RVP too Roo would be the place to save cash.

It is also worth noting that 2 of Rooney's goals were FK's, while RVP wasnt playing.

If RVP had played, Rooney may not have took them.

It's also worth noting that RVP is carrying some ongoing injury problems that may see him more likely to be rested that Rooney during the more intense period of games.

TV question as I'm looking for good tv series for christmas holidays.

        Anyone watched Oz lately?
Haven't watched it before and I know it's class, but it's also quite old...watched Wire few years ago and first seasons felt bit out of date until "I got in to that world".

I watched it last year and it was brilliant. But I guess it did seem slightly dated. Good nonetheless.

Oz is absolutely brutal in every way. It's a great series though, especially if you liked The Wire there are certain similarities that can be drawn up.

Sopranos is more lightweight and probably my favorite TV show of all times, Boardwalk Empire is great when we're on HBO-series. Entourage, entertainment from start 'til end. I'd probably go with those three before I fired up Oz.

Thanks guys, seems like Oz deserves chance then.
Sopranos is great, Entourage good too.
Don't know why, but I never really "felt it" for Boardwalk Empire and stopped watching somewhere in season two I think.

Definitely check it out and give it a few episodes to "seep" in, it's pretty heavy stuff.

Reading your post just confirmed to me just how addicted to FF I am.

          My thought process:

TV question... Ah Mr Sarcastic has a question regarding team value. Let's read on and see if I can help him out.

A good tv series for the christmas holidays... Mr Sarcastic has worded that strangely, I think he wants to know which players will be increasing in value the most leading up to the January WC.

Anyone watched Oz lately?... I haven't heard Ozil called Oz on here before but that must be who he is taling about. Sorry Mr Sarcastic, don't think he will help you increase your TV.

Then I got to Wire and realised I'm a massive bellend.

I don't watch much TV so can't help you out, sorry.

        Hello Guys,

        How does this look:

        Mignolet
        Koscielny - Vidic - Chester
        Gerrard - Amalfitano - Whittingham - Townsend
        Rooney - Aguero - Suarez

        Daniels - HBA - Burner - Shaw

        GW 12: HBA --> RavMo
        GW 13: Townsend --> Walcott

Does this plan seem ok? If so, who to bench this week out of Townsend, Whittingham and RavMo?

        Thanks!

Sounds good to me! Even if you have a change of heart, HBA > Ravmo leaves you flexible next week

          Yes, a template move.

In terms of who to play, my head says whittingham but my heart says ravmo.
