Shane Long fires West Brom into a two-goal lead at the Hawthorns but the Baggies are denied a second successive home win in last night’s midlands derby. Karim El Ahmadi and Ashley Westwood grab the second-half goals as the visitors come from behind to take a share of the spoils – for Fantasy managers, though, it proved a frustrating night:

Long Plunders the Points
The Baggies forward fired both his side’s goals and picked up maximum bonus points in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game to continue an upturn in form. Prior to Gameweek 11, Long had failed to find the net all season but a strike against Chelsea at the Bridge seems to have reinvigorated the Republic of Ireland star, as he turned in a stunning first-half display against his team’s bitter rivals. Having started the first three league fixtures, Long drifted onto the periphery of Steve Clarke’s first XI – the following six matches harvested just 60 minutes from the bench – but he now seems to have worked his way to the top of the pecking order for the lone forward role. Nicolas Anelka, Victor Anichebe and Matej Vydra now have their work cut out to earn game time in Clarke’s preferred 4-2-3-1 system, with Stephane Sessegnon seemingly nailed on in “the hole” behind Long. The fixtures remain in the Baggies favour, with Newcastle, Norwich, Cardiff and Hull in the next five but with our three forward slots at a premium, Long – despite a favourable 6.0 price tag – looks likely to remain a differential option, with a current ownership of 1%.

Brunt Ticking Over
When it comes to the West Brom midfield, our Fantasy plans have mainly concerned summer signings Sessegnon and Morgan Amalfitano, but the Baggies skipper is gradually making his mark. In a season blighted by niggling hamstring issues, Brunt managed just one start and three brief substitute appearances in the first nine Gameweeks but, similar to Long, has forced his way into the starting line-up over the last three league matches. With an assist in each of his two home appearances over that period, his delivery from the left is looking crucial to Clarke’s side – the Baggies have scored seven times in four games with Brunt in the XI, compared to seven strikes in eight without him. At 5.0, he’s the cheapest of Clarke’s attacking midfielders and looks set to continue on the left for the above-mentioned run of matches.

Villa’s Budget Midfield Possibilities
In recent weeks, Leandro Bacuna has caught the eye with his set-piece execution earning the Villa new boy increased investment. Utilised as a full-back, though, Bacuna’s classification as a midfielder hardly helps his Fantasy appeal, but last night saw a couple of Paul Lambert’s regulars throw their hats into the ring ahead of a kind run of fixtures. Karim El Ahmadi’s strike was his second of the season and, having started seven of the last eight, the 4.4 priced midfielder may appeal to those looking for a budget alternative – Villa now have Sunderland, Fulham, Stoke and Palace in the next six. Ashley Westwood’s leveller hogged the headlines and also has him blinking on Fantasy radars – at 4.9 he’s a little costlier than El Ahmadi, but is another secure starter.

Benteke’s Drought Continues
It’s five games without a goal now for the Villa forward after he drew yet another blank. Partnered by Libor Kozak in a 4-3-1-2 formation, Benteke continues to hint at a return to the form that produced four goals in the first four fixtures – he managed four attempts last night, more than any visiting player, but without success. Despite the slump, a home game against Sunderland this weekend could be just what he needs to resurrect his Fantasy campaign – with Gabby Agbonlahor and Andreas Weimann climbing off the bench to signal their return from injury, a return to a 4-3-3 system against the Black Cats looks on the cards and, with their tails up after last night’s derby comeback, Lambert’s side will be optimistic Benteke can rediscover his eye for goal.

That's the safer option though the rewards are far greater transferring this week (Benteke hosting Sunderland v Rooney at Spurs against Benteke at Southampton v Rooney hosting Everton).

Weimann and Agbonlahor are back and I have a hunch Benteke works a lot better with them, nothing more than a hunch though. Looked very dangerous in the second half.

Anyway, FWIW, I think he can at least match Rooney for goals over the next 6 and having Walcott could provide a fat profit.

It's still a big punt, no certainty.

There's a chance he'll be rested at some point but he does a lot more for the team at CF than Walcott. Besides Walcott's returns are similar whether he plays RW or CF so not too worried about his position. I think he's very ownable in both.

What is the most pressing transfer required from my team:

    Migs
    Ferdinand, Terry, Koscielny
    Sessegnon, Coutinho, Brady, Hazard
    Suarez, Benteke, Rooney

Subs: Harper, Williams (swansea), Clyne, Ward-Prowse.
    ITB: 0.9m

    a) Ferdinand > Gabbidon (free up funds, palace good fixtures, Pullis factor)
    b) Take a hit to get Aguero in for Benteke, if so where
    c) Open to options...

ohhh tough call.... not having Aguero could prove costly, but Benteke vs Sunderland with gabby and weinmann back (we could be seeing a similar revival to what lukaku had when barkley was reinserted into starting lineup?) might be enough to make one wait a week.

If you're risk averse I'd get Aguero and captain him, but if you are a gambling man, stick it out with Tekkers and reap the rewards of not losing -4 and being able to ditch ferdinand who has not looked very good (not sure how nailed on he is to be honest)

Ferdinand > Johnson, Evans or even would be better bets, I'm very skeptical of Palace's defense despite good fixtures

however if you want to set yourself up to get Aguero without a hit that won't work. have you ever considered Negredo?

he'd be a possible purchase should tekkers continue to fail. I can't really see who you could downgrade by about 2.2 to be able to get Aguero hitless next week. Maybe Sess to El Ahomahdy (4.4), leaving your midfield with two big hitters and 3 cheapos for better or worse

I'd bear with Tekkers for now, as getting Aguero now would hurt your team not only by keeping ferdinand, but by leaving your midfield a bit thin, unless you plan on playing 3 mids. rid of

tl;dr: i'd do A but not necessarily to gabbidon

Cheers man, appreciate your response. I am going very ballsy this week and going to give Benteke the armband, its fly or die with him then I have been eyeing up Negrado as his replacement or possibly Lukaku early doors before his price rises with the good run of fixtures.

    Nastasic - Coleman - Clyne

    Oscar - Lallana - Ozil - Ramsey

    Lukaku - Suarez - Aguero

    4.0 B.Turner Jedinak Chester

    2 FT's, 1.3 in the bank

    Current team

    Boruc (Lewis)

    Terry Chico GJ Coleman Clyne

    Ramsey Cout Hazard Arnau Barkely

    Rooney Suarez Tekkers

    0.4 ITB

Obviously I'm missing Aguero, but the way to get him is not an easy one. Think its better to cover bases with Negredo? He's only getting better at the moment and Benteke not firing on all cylinders....

Otherwise I could get rid of Rooney and Tekkers and get Aguero and Lukaku. Thoughts?

    Boruc (Foster)
    Terry Zab Ward (Chester, Burner)
    Oscar Cabaye Ramsey Barkley (Janu)
Rooney Kun Suarez 1.1+ 2 FT

Quite happy with my team apart from GK.
I might only use one transfer this week as nobody really caught my attention.

    A. Foster>Mign/Szcz
    or
    B. Chester>Evans

Dear all, Here are a few simple rules to live by based on my experience of playing FPL. Whilst fads and tactics come and go, I think that these basic rules will stand everyone in good stead, plus answer about 1/3 of all questions on here very quickly. I bequeath to you all… The Rules: 1.       Never settle for second best in any given position for any given teame.g. is Sturridge a better pick than Suarez as he’s cheaper and will score almost as many points? No, never was and never will be. This sort of thing happens season after season…..2.       Buy him when he starts scoringe.g. should I get Walcott now or in a week’s time?Neither. Buy him when he starts scoring.3.       Never sell a player who’s scoringe.g. should I sell Remy or Betenke?Betenke, as Remy is scoring well4.       Don’t try and get clever. It never workse.g. Nani has signed a new contract and is home to CPL next……Fail5.       Never get cute with the captaincye.g. Nani has signed a new contract and is home to CPL next……                2 x Fail6.       Its never too late to swallow your pridee.g. Mr Aaron Ramsey Esq.7.       Who do you envy?e.g. which player do you look at in a H2H  opponent’s team and think, “uh-oh”? Who do you see has scored on a matchday and think “not again”?Maybe you should buy them….

"On Saturday night after our win against Southampton I went out with my family and friends for dinner. After our dinner we all wanted a night swim in my gym so we changed to shorts and brought towels down. As we arrived at the gym my key fob changed the colour from red (locked) to green (open) but the door remained closed. We thought the door was stuck so we tried to open it and it caused some damage.

so add doors to defences, two things Nicholas the Great cant unlock anymore 🙂
