With a quarter of the league campaign now gone already, a tip of the hat must go to West Brom who are, relatively speaking, the team of the season so far. With their first four away games being at Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Man United, many had tipped them as one of the pre-season favourites for the drop, but Roberto di Matteo’s side now sit in fourth place in the table and are showing a remarkable character and consistency to their performances.

Last week they battled back at Old Trafford to earn themselves a draw and this afternoon saw the Baggies fall behind early on to an unfortunate Scott Carson own goal in their home encounter with Mark Hughes’ Fulham. Once again, though, Di Matteo’s men hauled their way back into the game and despite the continued absence of star forward Peter Odemwingie, they still managed to grab a couple of goals to defeat the Cottagers by the odd goal in three.

With three wins and two stalemates at the Hawthorns they are undefeated at home all season and unbeaten in the league since August, despite recording just one clean sheet in the nine games to date.

Of the three promoted sides, Blackpool’s open, attacking play seems to be grabbing most of the attention, whilst Newcastle’s early season promise has somewhat tailed off to be replaced by off-field antics at present. West Brom, on the other hand, continue to play their football whilst showing the ability to battle that Ian Holloway’s men perhaps lack.

Great credit must go to Di Matteo, who seems to have learned rapidly and impressively from the club’s Stamford Bridge battering on the opening day of the season. Granted, a draw for either Arsenal or Man United tomorrow will knock the Baggies down a place or two, but until then at least, fans will take great delight in the fact that West Brom stands shoulder to shoulder with the so-called elite in the Champions League placings, their highest ever position in the Premier League.

Yes. There are so many good value midfielders out there that I can't really justify having both of them on the team, with the damage that cost would do to the defense/attack. Plus Chelsea's fixtures aren't looking pretty with 4 away games in the next 6, then another 4 tough games.

right every week on the games i watch, fact 🙂

i do have him yeah, buyt my reasoning was- it was a DIRE game, full of waste, and he got more touches, and was the only, the ONLY chelsea player showing any urgency.

Anelka and drogs make me sick, they think theyre above wolves, i was praying Hunt went through anelka.

As soon as wolves fixtures pick up, he's in my team

          They are above Wolves players

Anelka and Drogba werent in 2nd gear today and they beat them confortably.

Chelsea just did what they had to do. Plus its not that surprising since most of the team just came back from Moscow while Drogba had flu.

Yeah, of course they are above wolves players. DB, seriously man, ye state the obbvious way too much.

its fairly obvious what i mean. They were trotting around like i would playing with a four year old. Its arrogant, and thats why they only got two today. Its also arrogant for the spectators, paying a fortune to watch complete lack of effort. I hate that attitude, and nothing makes it right.

Spot on mate. I went to the bridge today and their fans were livid. Wolves actually controlled the game for large periods either side of half time and could easily have nicked a goal.

Drogba was a disgrace, didn't even try most of the match

It'd be a massive injustice if he didn't, or a surprise injury.

I wouldn't mind Tevez having some war-up niggles myself - get Andy Carroll up off benchwarming duty.

Badly, there's a big points hit coming soon to get rid of the crap, maybe next week if Arteta's fit. Dunn'll go then.

I really just need to get back to having a bog-standard run of the mill team, then take it from there.

I've got him in to help fund Fabs. Was a toss up between him and Elmo, but I'm happy enough with it. My guess would be he could be rotated/rested a bit, but for 5.6 seems OK to me.

I dont really know what to do with my....want fabregas....getting rid of arshavin plus another probably berb. But his next two games are spurs and wolves.

Does anyone think that wenger will start wilshire and fab in the same team?

I think my best tactic will be to get a cheaper arsenal midfielder for arshavin den upgrade defence a bit. Cos arsh does does not seem to be on fire this year. Bit of a bum note.

i really need to know whats up with arteta..

ok, im not a knee jerker, never have been, but drogba out and my team is awesome.
my current midfield is adam nasri nani vdv arteta. (tevez drog carrol)

If i get drogs out, i can get fabs in for nasri, assuming arteta is fit, or in for arteta if not. ALSO, i get in Chamakh, for a run of scintillating fixtures.

Now compare that to drogbna's (yes i know, it's drogba), but are chelsea motivated, are they running away with the title etc etc. (of course they arent, but you get me)

Drogba was also very very deep for the past few games he played.

Am i on a one way bus to the cell next to DB, or am I inspired? 🙂

    Discuss

    now if you compare

I need to get rid of an expensive player if I'm to get Fabs in with the minimum amount of points damage. The idea of getting Drogba out is creeping in. But they're playing Blackburn next week. You're not crazy for thinking about it anyways.

well this is it lads, its alot to consider, can anyone argue though he's playing very deep, might get rested, two tough away games, chamakh to handy ones and youve a leg up on anyone with the prescription tevez drogba and carrol...

the more i go on about it, the more it makes a hell of alot of sense. i dont lose that musch then getting him in down the line.

i lost malouda three weeks ago, and that has defintely worked out so far, even with today's haul.

wouldnt have to be chamakh though, its money there at the end of the day though, and 13 mill tied up in a guy whos not on form, playing deep, doesnt look arsed and could be rested is alot.

to be honest, i know its only one day, but he hasnt looked arsed alot really has he?

In conclusion, i think, if fabs is fit after tomorrows game, hes in for either fabs or nasri at some point in the week, and chamakh too. ye gotta have a gamble, its a good one too, cos of fistures, and the sheer boredom of everyone having drogba.

i did go on about malouda out a few weeks back, and that has made all the difference for me, in a good way.
