With a quarter of the league campaign now gone already, a tip of the hat must go to West Brom who are, relatively speaking, the team of the season so far. With their first four away games being at Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Man United, many had tipped them as one of the pre-season favourites for the drop, but Roberto di Matteo’s side now sit in fourth place in the table and are showing a remarkable character and consistency to their performances.

Last week they battled back at Old Trafford to earn themselves a draw and this afternoon saw the Baggies fall behind early on to an unfortunate Scott Carson own goal in their home encounter with Mark Hughes’ Fulham. Once again, though, Di Matteo’s men hauled their way back into the game and despite the continued absence of star forward Peter Odemwingie, they still managed to grab a couple of goals to defeat the Cottagers by the odd goal in three.

With three wins and two stalemates at the Hawthorns they are undefeated at home all season and unbeaten in the league since August, despite recording just one clean sheet in the nine games to date.

Of the three promoted sides, Blackpool’s open, attacking play seems to be grabbing most of the attention, whilst Newcastle’s early season promise has somewhat tailed off to be replaced by off-field antics at present. West Brom, on the other hand, continue to play their football whilst showing the ability to battle that Ian Holloway’s men perhaps lack.

Great credit must go to Di Matteo, who seems to have learned rapidly and impressively from the club’s Stamford Bridge battering on the opening day of the season. Granted, a draw for either Arsenal or Man United tomorrow will knock the Baggies down a place or two, but until then at least, fans will take great delight in the fact that West Brom stands shoulder to shoulder with the so-called elite in the Champions League placings, their highest ever position in the Premier League.

Incorrect, its not just to save on Gerrard, its the diff of having 2 players who may score more points in a certain GW! Coleman/Fabs home v Upson(injured)/Gerrard away.

An explorer in the deepest Amazon suddenly finds himself surrounded by a bloodthirsty group of natives. Upon surveying the situation, he says quietly to himself, "Oh God, I'm screwed."

The sky darkens and a voice booms out, "No, you are NOT screwed. Pick up that stone at your feet and bash it in the head of the chief standing in front of you."

So with the stone he bashes the life out of the chief. He stands above the lifeless body, breathing heavily and looking at 100 angry natives...

The voice booms out again, "Okay.... NOW you're screwed."

So Bosingwa looked promising down the right today, I think he is a must given his first season and price. I need to sell Berba to get him.

Is it better to wait and confirm his fitness for a couple of weeks?
How much is Bosingwa's price likely to increase if I wait to after gw 10?
Do I take a 4 point hit and complete two transfers this week?

bosingwa is on my watch-list haveursay I am taking the wait and see approach.
I am making no transfers this weeks

Ideally in two weeks time i could go arshavin out wilshire in then mickey mouse defender out bosingwa in.
That's my alternative instead of bringing fabregas in.

Suppose I shouldn't be thinking about it, especially when I have Torres aswell. Just that I don't like him anyway suppose, most people on here go on like he's a god but I think he's a d*ck, lol. Don't see much value in any strikers at the moment tbh. Berbatov overpriced, Chamakh is useless, Torres useless, Drogba too expensive for what he's doing at the moment, Rooney useless and injured. Can't wait for RVP to come back, might take a punt on Bent?

Drogba is still and will be the shit! NO DOUBT!!! It's just in this game that he has failed to deliver mainly due to him being hugely uninterested, he actually started the game pretty well but his interest dropped pretty sharp pretty quickly. So I won't really make a decision based on this performance speacially when we have all seen many times and well what the drogs can do.

Theres so much incorrect with that paragraph I dont know where to begin.

How is Chamack useless having just Broke a Champions league record?

And settled in seamlessly to a new country.

How is Berbatov overpriced when he is only 9 mil odd playing for one of the most attacking sides in europe.

Then you name 2 players. Bent - who isnt scoring and RVP who hasnt played 3 games in a row in ages as better alternatives.

Very harsh on strikers you mentioned.

Agreed. Tough to find good value strikers. Barring that, I'll keep Drogba, overpriced though he may be. Every now and then he will give a multigoal effort and everyone will have him captained. Can't stand watching that from the sidelines.

          True, RBJ.

Right now I'd say Cashley is a better player to have than Drogba in FPL. In fact, he's probably the biggest 'Must Have' in the game right now. Practically assured a cleanie every week plus bonis and always a threat with assists.

Cashey's playing on a defence that, on a goals per game ratio, only QPR are as stingy as. That's easy money each week.

another thing, that carson goal being given as an og is a fu*kin joke.

i know it wont be changed, but surely an og is only given if you attempt to play the ball and it does something you didnt intend.

terribly terribly unfair, especially if unintended contact with the ball

An own goal occurs in association football and other goal-scoring games when a player scores a goal that is registered against his or her own team. It is usually accidental, and may be a result of an attempt at defensive play that failed or was spoiled by opponents.

I haven't seen it but i do think it's a bit of a joke that players get minus points for O.Gs but nothing for giving away a penalty. There is often far more blame attached to that then scoring an (often inadvertent) O.G

Thinking of taking my first hits this season, a -8, team atm for GW 10 :

    Krul (Foster)
    Konchesky Acole Faye (Jara Perch)
    Malouda VDV Nani Dempsey (Etherington)
    Drogba Tevez Carroll

Fabs needs to come in, and Stoke will definitely concede to Everton , Perch is out of the team, so thinking of the below

    Malouda -> Fabs
Dempsey -> Adam/Brunt (Who would you suggest?)
    Faye -> Coleman

Normally dont take -4 for a defender but Coleman is OOP and I would play him for 5-6 games in a row

There is definitely a period before the deadline on Saturday where is stops updating. Probably because of the vast amount of transfers going on...

Not sure about that. That is likely due to the FPL site more than totalfpl. You should know by Saturday morning which players may rise Sunday morning. Never had an issue myself.

Seems a strange time to bring Coleman in when he came off injured today. And even if he is OK he may now drop out of the side with Pienaar back and when Arteta is back.

i spend more time on fpl than anyone in my league by a country mile, in fact they say i take it too seriously, yet i'm really not having the impact i should be! the league is being lead by a guy who spends 10 minutes a week on it. anyone want to make comment on my team? go nuts...

I have figured out who the bonus judges are.. they are the same judges as on the x-factors.. 2 girls who know feck all about anything and pick players at random cuz they like the colour of the blokes shirt while another one keeps giving cashley the 3 BPs to piss another certain judge off..

Not the high scoring week I was hoping for but still a few big guns left to play to turn it around
    Foster Krul
    Konchesky Elmohamady Shawcross Hughes Jara
    Gerrard Malouda Nani Adam Barton
    Drogba Tevez Carroll

Sounds like Elmo and Adam are alright, and planned transfer of Gerrard => Fabregas is looking good.

Happy days if Fabregas gets nothing more than appearance points to prevent a price skyrocket!
