With a quarter of the league campaign now gone already, a tip of the hat must go to West Brom who are, relatively speaking, the team of the season so far. With their first four away games being at Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Man United, many had tipped them as one of the pre-season favourites for the drop, but Roberto di Matteo’s side now sit in fourth place in the table and are showing a remarkable character and consistency to their performances.

Last week they battled back at Old Trafford to earn themselves a draw and this afternoon saw the Baggies fall behind early on to an unfortunate Scott Carson own goal in their home encounter with Mark Hughes’ Fulham. Once again, though, Di Matteo’s men hauled their way back into the game and despite the continued absence of star forward Peter Odemwingie, they still managed to grab a couple of goals to defeat the Cottagers by the odd goal in three.

With three wins and two stalemates at the Hawthorns they are undefeated at home all season and unbeaten in the league since August, despite recording just one clean sheet in the nine games to date.

Of the three promoted sides, Blackpool’s open, attacking play seems to be grabbing most of the attention, whilst Newcastle’s early season promise has somewhat tailed off to be replaced by off-field antics at present. West Brom, on the other hand, continue to play their football whilst showing the ability to battle that Ian Holloway’s men perhaps lack.

Great credit must go to Di Matteo, who seems to have learned rapidly and impressively from the club’s Stamford Bridge battering on the opening day of the season. Granted, a draw for either Arsenal or Man United tomorrow will knock the Baggies down a place or two, but until then at least, fans will take great delight in the fact that West Brom stands shoulder to shoulder with the so-called elite in the Champions League placings, their highest ever position in the Premier League.

      2 problems:

      1) taking a hit for a defender is silly, you rarely make that 4 points back immediately.

      2) you're not buying Fabregas.

        1) Agree with totally, however feel I need to admit I should have brought him in earlier and just bite the bullet

        2) The only way I can get Fab in is getting rid of either Drog or Tevez

Got Malouda in and binned Arshavin just this week as didn't want Fabs away at City.

Do you have Cashley? If so then you can afford to drop Malouda if you want to keep hold of Drogba as Cashley is practically a MF'er anyway.

If not then maybe keep Malouda and get a diff striker for Drogs.

Malouda has 7 goals already this season and bear in mind that his goals are worth more than Drogs' are.

I'm giving VERY serious consideration to keeping Malouda and lifting Drogs so that I can get Fabs for Bale next week instead. Plus I think Berbs for Drogs is actually not the worst move you can make right now.

I also agree, DO NOT sell VdV if you already have him.

        Why "never double up"?

Chelsea have kept 6 cleanies already this season. That's 72 points (pre saves and bonuses) for anyone 'stupid' enough to double up on Chelsea defenders.

That's like telling people playing the Championship version of this game not to double up on QPR defenders when all the statistical evidence actually tells you that's absolutely the best thing they could do defensively.

I think it's a good idea. Can't bring myself to sell Cole and I'm thinking Bos is one the best def bargain this season. Chelsea is pretty much fixture proof so it wouldn't hurt defensive flexibility much having both of them.

So back to my Metro/BP post from earlier:

    Anorak says:
    October 23 at 5:17 pm

Top 3 of the Metro scoring for this week in each of the games (and therefore a good shout for BP in FPL?):

    Baines, Crouch, Assou-Ekotto
    Ridgewell (1), Zigic (3), Carr
    Mulumbu, Brunt (2), Fortune
    Turner, Onouha, AYoung
    Elmander, Rodallega (3), Holden (1)
    Bosingwa, Malouda, Cech
    Nolan (2), Carroll, CCole

Some correlation, but obviously not so simples.

He can when he starts scoring a few goals...
Cant you all see he is amazing! Up and down the wing like no ones business. He gets in the box so often with his pace and is a constant outlet for Chelsea. The left hand of the team is built around him.
Just wait till he bang in a goal that he is due!

Pienaar plays left, Arteta centre, Coleman right. Coleman will not play RB though -that's Nevilles spot. Coleman's 'competition' for a place is Osman (injured) and Bily (soft- arse). So, if fit, Coleman will keep his spot. Bedknobs the Boomstick fan has got it, listen to Bedknobs

So does that mean that after tonights possible price rises his NTI is at 0 or after tomorrows? Confusing this stuff. Also proves how much we over analyse and spend too much time on this game.

Interesting what RBJ was saying about drogs earlier - i'm inclined to agree. In effect you're basically swapping Drogba for Fabregas which at the moment doesn't seem like a bad idea.

Would also give me a midfield of:
    VDV, Nani, Arteta, Malouda, Fabregas

My biggest problem would be that i don't have any strikers for <7.2 that i really want in.

went to look at the bookies this morning, and NOT ONE F**KING ONE OF THEM HAD MY WINNING MARGINS 1-12 POINTS. Not WillHill, not StanJames, not betpack....didnt even think to do the 1-10's. My god, im gonna vomit, i always do a 40 euro trixie for france.

I do Media Studies (Woopdy do big hooha whatever I know) but we did some in depth stuff about the X Factor and at the end of the day they are just a bunch of money grabbing b*stards. It is very very commercialised, in previous series's it has been Ok, but they try and make the contestants seem so much better than they actually are! Wagner to win to teach them a lesson.

Wagner to win wont teach them a lesson.

He is part of the package. He brings in more viewers in a different age group.

The only way to teach them a lesson is not to watch. If wagner somebody has to vote which means money, tv deals, magazines etc.

Swiss F*n Watch, are you still on here?

I saw a post earlier where you asked if you'll lose .1 on Gerrard tonight. If you paid 11.4 for him (which I did), his value is 11.6 now, so you get 11.5 if you sell him tonight. If you wait til tomorrow, his value will be 11.5, so you'll only get 11.4 for him.

If you paid 11.5 for him, you won't lose anything.

Thats quite funny. Annoying though I bet. Had that happen to me once or twice. I think I went out of the FPL Cup to some crappy guy like that last season. I have got quite lucky with my H2H's this season I think.. See below. GW's 5 6 and 7 🙂

    Opinions wanted on this...

    Midfield and forwards are

    Malouda,bale,nani,adam,arteta
    Berba,drogba,rodallega

    option 1.

Malouda and bale > Fab and VDV

    Option 2

Drogba,Bale and adam > Chamakh VDV and Fab

Also thinking of getting rid of berba so i can bring in cashley.

That would involve bringing in elmander or piquionne, both have great fixtures coming up.

There is a lot right with option 1 you have there.

Option 2 gives you too many players you'd want to play every week for me.

Option 1 for me - VdV is involved in everything that Spurs do and I still haven't got him. I am sure Spurs fans would rather see him upfront rather than Crouch, who played today as if he his legs were tied and he was blindfolded.

Option 2 is a midfeld that has to start every gameweek. Only rotation in forwards in defense.

Option 1 still allows me to do berba>cashley, which gives double chelsea cover. For his price, no other player in the game gives as good returns...

Well I have two this week,

        Bale --> Arteta
        Malouda --> Fabregas

But there's so many transfers I want to make, but could do without. Probably won't take a hit I think I have a decent plan for the next few weeks maybe only involving one or two 4 pointers.

    My team is:
    Foster
    Alex Konchesky Dann
    Malouda Cole VanderVaart Nani Carroll
    Chamakh Drogba (C)

    Sub: Brunt

i was wondering If Brunt can get in by automatic substitution as I put Alex deliberately so that I will finally have 2 def at back and play 2-5-3 overall.
As you cant play that formation, will my automatic substitution work??

I think so. He's in great form under coyle. Carroll wont be great, not with all the behind the scenes stuff. Piq is a dilemma, he can be great on his day, grant is getting the best from him, it just depends on if you fancy whm to develop consistancy. It does seem to be happening though.

Alright, just some thinking out loud. I've got a season changing decision to make here. Messing it up will probably set me back a really long way.

    Here goes:

Fabregas has to come in, I just can't see another alternative unless he gets injured in the next week (please get injured!) He'll come in for two juicy home fixtures where Tevez and Drogba both play away, and would make the perfect captain if he's fit and firing.

To fund Fabregas though, I need to lose one of Malouda or Cole. It's sensible to choose one or the other, because Chelsea don't have the greatest fixtures, and having so much money in Chelsea would most likely not be worth it. So who to drop?

    Plan A

    GW 10
    Cole > Simpson
    Nasri > Fabregas

    GW 11
    Alcaraz > Bosingwa

If I drop Cole, I'd be looking to swap for Simpson, and use the funds to upgrade Alcaraz to Bosingwa. Bosingwa is a rotation risk right? Yes, but if he starts, he'd be a great choice, also with 5.7/5.8 to play with I'd have options of Boateng, Kolarov, O'Shea.

Pros: Keep Malouda, 5.8 defender choices are plentiful, more team value, a better plan if Fabregas gets injured.

Cons: Lose Cole, Bosingwa is a rotation risk, plan is much tighter and less flexible, Albrighton stays for two more weeks rotting on bench, Alcaraz is sacrificed for Simpson.

    Plan B

    GW 10
    Malouda > Fabregas
    Albrighton > De Jong/Emerton/Boa Morte

Doing this would mean that I keep Cole, and upgrade Malouda. I'd have a midfield of Fabregas, Nasri, Nani, VdV for GW10 and 11 where Arsenal have double home games. Then a planned switch from Nasri > Bale to double up on Tottenham's double home games in GW12 + 13. It's more flexible too, because I can downgrade Cole at any time to some cheap defender, and use the funds to upgrade my team slowly.

Pros: Keep Cole, more flexible, playing the fixtures (Nasri GW10 + 11, then switch to Bale GW12 + 13)

Cons: Lose Malouda and can't get him back without a significant hit, big loss in value (0.6 from Albrighton + Malouda)

Even writing out my own analysis isn't helping. Anyone care to add to it so that maybe the scales tip one way or the other?

I would say B. Cole will still get 6 points (sometimes more) even with tough fixtures, whereas I'm not sure Malouda will. Drogba is enough attacking coverage for this run of fixtures. And as you said, option B is more flexible.
