A solitary strike from Branislav Ivanovic is enough to clinch the points for Chelsea at the Etihad. Jose Mourinho’s defence stands firm as City’s 100% home record comes to an end without the services of the stricken Sergio Aguero:

Blues Backline Defies the Etihad
In spite of conceding just two goals in their previous seven league fixtures, Chelsea rolled up to the Etihad as underdogs last night. With the hamstrung Sergio Aguero sitting in the stands and Fernandinho’s agility missing in central midfield, Jose Mourinho’s side were able to repel an attack that had hit Arsenal and Spurs for six and stuck four past United in front of their own fans. Branislav Ivanovic’s first goal since Gameweek 1 earned the Serbian a 14-point haul, though it’s perhaps debatable whether many of his owners were confident enough to hand him a slot in their starting XI.

Having passed the toughest test of all now, Mourinho’s defenders have shown we can rely on them regardless of fixture difficulty. At a time where Arsenal are set to play six of the current top seven over the next nine Gameweeks, doubling up on Chelsea’s backline looks a very viable tactic and, whilst John Terry and Gary Cahill also offer a goal threat, Cesar Azpilicueta has now started 13 of the last 14 Gameweeks and, at 5.3, may appeal to those with limited finances.

Oscar Benched in Tactical Reshuffle
Whilst there’s no doubt the Brazilian is Jose Mourinho’s preferred choice for the role in “the hole” behind a lone striker, it’s clear that his manager will, at times, sacrifice him for the sake of the team. With David Luiz partnered by Nemanja Matic in the double-pivot, Mourinho shifted the versatile Ramires onto the right of the midfield three and opted for Willian behind Samuel Eto’o as Oscar dropped to the bench. Willian has now started seven of the last nine, whilst Oscar has featured in the first XI on five of those occasions after returning from injury. Games against Newcastle and West Brom next week are likely to see the playmaker reinstalled to the first-team after a mere eight-minute appearance last night but, at a time when so many mid-price midfielders are producing the points, many will feel they cannot afford to have an 8.9-priced asset under the risk of rotation.

Negredo‘s Game Time a Worry
The Spaniard returned to the City first-team after missing out against Tottenham with a shoulder complaint. Snapped up by over 25,000 Fantasy managers as a result of Aguero’s hamstring injury, Negredo left his 11% owners thoroughly frustrated after failing to score at the Etihad for only the second time in his last eight home starts. More concerning was Pellegrini’s decision to sub the former Sevilla forward off with just 56 minutes on the clock as Stevan Jovetic got the nod to partner Edin Dzeko for the remainder of the game – after the match, the City boss admitted Negredo is not yet 100% after his recent shoulder complaint. Negredo has now managed 90 minutes just once in the last seven Gameweeks, whilst Dzeko has played the entire match in four of the previous five now, suggesting the Bosnian looks far more reliable to last from start to finish under Pellegrini at the moment.

Etihad Resilience Fading
Last night’s result also continued a run of form which has seen City struggle to keep out their opponents at home. Pellegrini’s side racked up five clean sheets in their first seven at the Etihad and conceded just twice – over the subsequent five, they’ve registered a single shut-out (against Palace) and shipped seven goals. As the Chilean plots to recover from Monday evening’s setback, he’ll be buoyed by City’s remaining visitors – Sunderland, Stoke and Villa roll up in the next five and, with Fulham, Southampton, West Brom and West Ham all yet to arrive, those owning City defenders will be happy to hold in the meantime.

    Ozil -> Mata looks the obvious move.

    But that leaves me without Arsenal attacking or midfield coverage.
    Ozil might just come good soon. But the Fulham fixture is very inviting.
    I'll worry about GW28 when it happens.

    Is it just me or are people worring too much bout the potential blanks?
    Everyone who blanks will have a double week pending anyway so even if you nail gw29 surely youll need hits to get a decent team for the resultant double.

      Yeah it's a bit too early to plan for gw29. Gw28 blanks should already be considered though.

      Also, I'm looking to take 2 FTs into gw27, which is when we'll know about the gw29 blanks.

    Have plenty of cash from my Aguero -> Sturridge last week. Considering:

    This week:
    Kos/Vlaar -> Ivanovic/Azpi (doubling up with cahill, depends on vlaar fitness)

    Next week:
    AJ -> Lallana/Eriksen

    Looks good? It does make getting aguero back a bit tricky, plus just realized not a clear captain choice for this week though (studge/suarez/hazard/yaya/mata)

    Giroud owners!! His stats have been poor of late and he has pool away this week which on paper looks a tough fixture. What are you doin with him? I still rate him as a fantasy option and have him @8.5 so gonna probably bench him this week and keep him for his run of MUN SUN stk SWA.. Even when being non existent he gets points being the furthest forward at arsenal. Anyone else keeping him? Seeing a lot of ppl bailing out on him

        swapped Januzaj for lallana so i got a mean front eight..
        Silva Hazard Mata Lallana Mirallas
        Suarez Sturridge Giroud

        So i can afford the luxury of benchin him. After the FA cup games i'll be downgradin one of the 8 who have a game confirmed missing to a cheap mid who has a game confirmed in GW 29

      tbh apart from Suarez and Sturridge there's no striker i really want since aguero got injured.
      Villa looked awful vs everton and i think this whole benteke thing is a false dawn.. especially at his price
      Adebayor.. well i wanted him up until a few weeks ago. Soldado comin back and adebayor playin the feeding role has put me off him
      Rooney/RVP are too pricey for me for a team that is misfiring.. especially when mata looks the business in midfield(and is taking a lot of RVP's set pieces too)
      Dzeko/Negredo.. i'd rather stay away from that rotation minefield
      Giroud honestly looks the best of the worst options at the moment. Nailed on.. good fixtures in this week. playing furthest forward for the top side in england atm.. it may not be pretty but the points will come

          Exactly.. Guys like Sturridge i just have to own.. Right now there's no one i really want. so Giroud stays.. Concentrate your transfers on the GW 29 blank imo. Save a transfer this week and use one next.. then come the FA cup games so u'll know which teams are playin GW 29. if Arsenal have a game keep giroud else swap him for someone playin

            Reckon this all makes a lot of sense. I'm chuffed with my team, the only position I'm not really happy with is my 3rd striker. Tempted to switch to playing 5 mids every time but seems to feel so much more risky... Happy that I have Benteke in but wouldn't look to transfer him in...

        Playing so deep, and 2 yellows from a suspension, FKs a danger and always capable of pulling something out the bag, but wouldn't want the stress of wondering if he would do anything week in week out.

    RVP really is tempting as a 3 week punt, especially given the potential as (c) this week. I'm down to these 2 options - whatcha reckon? PS, there's a good chance I will WC in GW29.

    (A) GW25: Ozil & Benteke -> Sterling & RVP(c) [4 pointer]
    GW26: Bony -> Dzeko/JRod

    (B) GW25: Ozil -> Lallana
    GW26: Bony -> Sturridge/Negredo/Dzeko/JRod

    Szczesny, Davis
    Terry, Kolarov, B Davies, Clyne, Whittaker
    Hazard, Silva, Ozil, Mirallas, Puncheon
    Suarez, Benteke, Bony
