Maybe the weather was  to blame. For the first time in eight Gameweeks, there were no red cards flashed by referees as Tuesday and Wednesday’s eight fixtures found Premier League players on their best behaviour. For a certain Sunderland defender, however, the cancellation of a midweek trip to the Etihad has ensured he remains on the naughty step for a little bit longer:

Wes Brown was due to serve the first of a two-match ban against City on Tuesday but, after the Manchester wind forced the game’s cancellation, he will now miss the Gameweek 27 trip to Arsenal, in addition to this weekend’s FA Cup clash against Southampton. Given that the Black Cats’ Gameweek 28 game against West Brom has also been postponed due to their Capital One Cup final duties, this means Brown won’t be available for league duties until March 10 – when Gus Poyet’s side roll up to Anfield.

Cardiff’s Craig Bellamy will serve the second of a three-match ban for violent conduct this weekend. The Welshman decided against appealing the FA’s retrospective charge following an incident with Jonathan de Guzman in last weekend’s loss at Swansea – he will miss the FA Cup clash against holders Wigan and a home match with Hull before returning for the Gameweek 28 trip to Tottenham. Andy Carroll will serve the last of his three-match ban against Southampton when league duties recommence and will return for the Hammers’ trip to Everton on March 1.

The trio are the only players currently serving suspensions after Allan McGregor, Loic Remy and Mathieu Flamini all completed the last of their respective three-match bans during the week. McGregor is expected to take his place between the sticks for Hull’s trip to Cardiff next time around as Steve Bruce’s side go in search of a second successive away clean sheet.

Remy’s return to the Newcastle first XI will be a welcome relief for Alan Pardew. The Frenchman will surely be installed up top at home to Aston Villa as the Magpies manager attempts to arrest an alarming run of form which has seen his side fail to score in seven of the last eight league matches.

Flamini’s availability for Arsenal’s clash with Sunderland gives Arsene Wenger the option of moving Jack Wilshere into an advanced berth on the flank after being stationed in the double-pivot alongside Mikel Arteta in each of the last two Gameweeks.

On this week’s Suspension Tightrope, we now have six players just a couple of cautions away from a ban. West Brom’s Claudio Yacob is our newest arrival after picking up a booking in Tuesday’s home draw against Chelsea – he joins Fabian Delph, Marouane Chamakh, Wayne Rooney, Jon Walters and Baggies team-mate Jonas Olsson on eight yellow cards. Villa, Chelsea and West Brom are the most represented teams on the newly-updated Tightrope – all have three players with at least seven cautions to their name thus far.

What with all the DGW speculation and such, I'm curious as to how people go about planning transfers into their side. I'm talking post FA cup, when you know for certain what will happen.

Me personally, I take a look at the season ticker in the members area and see who has a good run of fixtures. Then head over to FPL transfer page and "act out" the transfers week by week to see who I could afford, how many changes I need to make etc.

I determine who I want for DGW and work backward. I make sure I have a full 11 for blank weeks. Then I figure who I'd like to get rid of and bring in someone with a good run of fixtures in form.

when you're "acting out" your transfers, leave a 0.2/0.3 difference, as you wouldn't want all your hard planning to go out of the window for a nominal price rise

Yeah can happen alright. At the minute most of my players are on the rise and the ones I want are injured haha and will have some money in the bank so it's not a huge deal. BUt if it's right down to the wire of 0.0 in the bank, yeah then it's a risk alright.

I hear you Bubz and Snoddy ain't such a bad option.

I guess it comes down to whether there are other midfielders for that price who would offer as much, if not more. For 5.9 you can get Charlie Adam who has form, for a little bit more Kevin Nolan, who has form ... or when he returns - Aaron Ramsey.

TOT avl STO sot SUN swa WBA ful aren't bad fixtures but the fact remains that Norwich aren't a terrific side and even for a decent player like Snodgrass, if there aren't guys on the end of his good work then he doesn't get the points.

Indeed! It is a shame he plays for a side that seem incapable of scoring goals. This has to change though. I'm just trying to unearth the next explosion before it happens! When I think about it though...I dont really have room for a Snodgrass in my team atm. Perhaps when I bring Aguero in he will be a good person to downgrade a mid to though!

Is it just injury that can derail him or a potential blank as well??

A blank in GW29 is possible. His next two fixtures are pretty hard to pass up though and if you have enough depth in your squad a blank shouldn't affect you too much. Or you can just keep him for a 2 week punt and put Aguero in depending on his fitness.

Can anyone help me out here?

I'm attempting to work out the details of Flamini's suspension - he received a straight red for violent conduct vs Southampton so got a 3 match ban, but due to his earlier ban for 5 yellow cards gets an extra game does he not, so while he is available for the next league game, he misses the FA Cup tie with Liverpool, right?
Lots of news outlets suggesting Flamini is available this weekend and the article above suggests he only got a 3 match ban, rather than 4.

I am basing this thought partly on Wes Brown's suspension being 2 games for DOGSO, rather than just 1 due to his early season suspension for 5 yellows.

    Anyone got clarification on this?

Are you sure red card suspensions are longer because of prior accumulation of yellows?

I thought Brown's 2 match ban was because of his previous red...

I can see where you are going, but I'm not sure they mix.

Equally, the players who hit the 5 yellows barrier before New Year's, will get a 2 match ban if they also hit the 10 card mark.

      I think 🙂

Browns previous red was rescinded, so doesn't count as a suspension I think

        I found this: http://news.arseblog.com/2014/01/flamini-to-be-suspended-for-4-games/

        Which quotes the rules thus:

        8. PUNISHMENTS – Relating to First Team Competitive Matches
        (a) CAUTIONS ADMINISTERED ON THE FIELD OF PLAY
        (i) If a Player accumulates five cautions in FTCM between the opening day of the
Playing Season and 31 December (including any FTCM played on that day) in the
same Season, he will be suspended automatically for a period covering: -
        One First Team Match

(g). Players dismissed from the Field of Play in a FTCM, having previously in the same season been sent off
in a FTCM (or suspended under the Standard Directions set out in Schedule A in these Regulations for an incident in a FTCM), will be suspended for one extra match for each such previous sending off or suspension, in addition to the automatic suspension applicable to the dismissal. For the purposes of this regulation a previous dismissal in a non FTCM will only be taken into account where it was for violent conduct, serious foul play or spitting.

He's had three this season though, one rescinded. So his third was still technically his second so got 2 games.

Almost forgot, I have a 'm-m-miffed'. Last week I shipped Wes Brown (that red the week before was worth a miffed in itself) & (the recently dropped) Bruce for MOlsson & McShane, for a 4 point hit. That worked out splendidly.

Still, I might allow myself a wry smile when I inevitably swap McShane back to (the newly reinstated) Bruce.

    Postponements killed my GW.

    Marshall (Mannone)
    Kos, Azpili, Demel, (Ward, Chester)
    Hazard, Mata, Silva, Navas, Puncheon
    Suarez (C), Sturridge, Benteke

Have 1FT, .1 in the bank. My plan is to obviously save it due to the City and Utd blank but wondering if it's worth swapping Navas out now? If Nasri is back his place might be under threat.

My thought for the night... Given a variety of monikers here which rarely tally with FPL team names am I the only one who sometimes thinks....am I the only one in my mini league who posts/frequents here?...

Would be kind of funny for mini league rivals to inadvertently advise one another!
