Suspensions

Suspension Tightrope – Serene

Gameweek 32 proved to be a remarkably calm affair, with not a single player sent off over the 10 fixtures. In addition, none of those at the top of the Suspension Tightrope toppled either, though five players remain just a single yellow card away from an automatic two-match ban:

The quintet in question are Steven Gerrard, Ramires, Gareth Barry, Phil Bardsley and Mathieu Flamini. Gerrard is obviously the biggest worry for Fantasy managers and Brendan Rodgers handled his skipper with care last weekend – with his side 3-0 up and cruising at home to Tottenham, Rodgers replaced his captain with 20 minutes still remaining in light of an upcoming schedule which see the Merseysiders face fellow title challengers City and Chelsea in the next four.

The extension deadline is the second Sunday (13th) in April, meaning Gerrard has to avoid a booking against West Ham and City in order to remain free of suspension. Bardsley and Barry also have two games apiece, though Flamini has just one to navigate – the reason being is that Arsenal’s Gameweek 34 clash with West Ham doesn’t take place until Tuesday 15 April.

Ramires also has a single match to avoid picking up a booking. He is currently set to serve the last of a three-match ban against Stoke this weekend before returning to action in time for the Gameweek 34 clash with Swansea – pick up a yellow in that one and he’s immediately back on the sidelines.

Four players return from suspension this week. Fernando Amorebieta, Jon Walters, Jonas Olsson and George Boyd are now available for selection once again. Marouane Fellaini also remains suspension-free. The FA have reviewed an alleged spitting incident in last week’s Manchester derby but have cleared the United midfielder of any wrongdoing.

Pleasantly surprised by Buttner. First time he has had anything like a run of games and he kept Robben pretty much under wraps. Could he be the answer for United at left back?

I think Evra's attacking threat vastly masks his poor defensive side, that'd be my take at least!

agree. used to be other way round when he joined man utd, then he became good at both and as a result one of the best left backs in the world, now he's kept the attacking and purely with loss of pace lost the defensive side

Exactly. I would be a strong believer that the full back should be defensively strong first followed by capable when attacking. Others seem to prefer attacking over defending but I think it leaves too much exposure on the flanks.

Never liked his performances for Chelsea much tbh

In General, English fans are far too statistic and result oriented. The awards and pub was a result of his assist totals and his managers holding him up as an example, which Inthink hurt his development in the end.

I really wanted Mata based on his play at Valencia and Spain under 21, but he hasn't been the same player that captained his country.

Think that's a bit of rubbish really. Mata isn't a runner, I certainly agree, not fast enough but he's a CAM and that's all he is. Playing in a team where he's frequently pushed to the wing or they insist on constantly crossing the ball instead of going through the centre isn't going to produce his best football. Exact same issue with Kagawa although he has a little more experience playing on the wing.

I would take Kagawa over him every day of the week, not close between the two.

Mata is the same kind of player as Nasri, chooses when to give effort and when to coast on the basis of their talent.

I'm not saying Mata is bad, he's just not worth half what united paid for him. Paid Him like a star, when he's really not much more than Adam Johnson

Oh I certainly would take Kagawa over him as well, no argument there.

I do think that he's a good deal more than Adam Johnson but I also understand your point. I think a tight CAM duo or trio of Kags and Mata would be better than wingers personally.
