Community Submissions Area – Now Live

The new Community Submissions section is now live. You can get to this section to view any published articles and to submit an article, via the Community tab in the menu bar. You will also notice a new Articles tab in the previously named Comments widget in your sidebar. The most recently published community submissions will be listed here.

In case you missed our previous update on this, this new section allows any registered user to post us an article for review, which can then be published on the site in the new Community section. Some articles may also be promoted to the homepage listing and sit alongside our regular articles.

As we mentioned last week, in many ways, this is an extension of the Hot Topics feature in our HomeCrowd comments system. The community can now interact with us and fellow community members by posting comments, Hot Topics and now fully fledged articles.

It’s now over to you to help shape this community section. While we’ve suggested categories for article submissions in the form, you have the freedom to submit articles on any given area of Fantasy Football. Player scout reports, tactical analysis, statistical breakdowns (members or non-members related), features on a particular topic or dilemma and, of course, information on any free community tournaments you’re running will all be considered and possibly published in this section.

Our recent Drop the Flop article – as devised and written by Swanny14 – is an example of our willingness to take on, develop and promote new editorial ideas, so if you have any suggestions for future content, feel free to get involved.

We are particularly interested in hearing from fans of a Premier League club to provide expert analysis and match reports or, at this stage, perhaps a review of the season from their club’s perspective. Ultimately, our hopes are to have a community expert on board for each team in the top-flight in any given season – this could be your chance to be our eyes and ears on the latest goings-on at your club.

We’d like to think that there are several potential writers out there who will spring from the submissions section and evolve into contributors to help take the site forward in the coming years. We will re-launch the section prior to next season when the community welcomes some new faces but, this soft launch is an opportunity for our current community to get involved, prior to the World Cup and pre-season.

If any of you fancy yourself as experts on a particular World Cup nation, have a list of players to watch or simply want to review your Fantasy season or focus on initial squad targets for the next, then pen your article and post it to us via the submissions area.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I could alternatively swap Dzeko with any of:

          Lukaku / Remy / Bony / Giroud / Ade / Eto'o

Is Dzeko the best option? 🙂

On the business of the scout castteam...and just a couple of the themes I have done in the past.

Last season I did all the Belgians in the prem (10) which was great...10 players that I never moved in or out of the squad and using the five remaining slots as other picks from the game as usual. It worked well with enough scope for success...without being suffocating.
This season I set up two teams with my brother for some fun...One was picks from London and Welsh clubs only whilst the other was picks from Not London and Welsh clubs only. Sadly that competition fell by the wayside as my brother neglected his team...but worked really well for a while and ensured no replication in each team...works equally well if North v South or any number of variables provided the " pick pool" is roughly fair for each team from the outset.

England only, or any nation only is definitely a good idea. However, I think it would be worth making it relevant to FPL in some way. For example, they have to take a hit every week, but never more than a -4 (last part optional).

This would allow them to modify the team each week to suit the strongest fixtures and get in the hottest form players. I think that if played well the team could easily be very competitive.

If your rival is likely to get Sturridge and you've already got Dzeko, I can see Giroud as a nice punt. Not worried about Sanogo starting and Giroud getting a rest for FA Cup? He's played an awful lot this season.

    Mannone (SWA)

Demichelis (WEST HAM) Azpi (cardiff) Ward (fulham)

AJ (SWA) Yaya (WEST HAM) Ramsey (norwch) Eriksen (VILLA)

Aguero (WEST HAM) Rooney (southamton) Suarez (NEWCASTLE)

Just to be polite before I use posters Gameweek histories.

I did a random poll of (-8) hits earlier in the season to try and discover how successful, or not, they actually are. The results showed a success rate for (-8)'s of approximately 3:2 in favour of green arrows over red.
As (-8) activity has increased over the latter weeks of the season I will repeat the poll by looking at a random sample of posters GW history. I shall log Geeen/Red arrows for both (-8) and (-4) hits to discover the success rates for both levels of hits.
I suspect the success rate for both levels may not be as far apart as we may believe

    So..Some questions
    Had this been done before?
Is it ok to use posters histories?
What would be a good poll size ? (I'm thinking 30 posters, just the first figure I thought of)
Should I include or exclude DGW's (I'm thinking exclude as it's slightly flawed)
    Any other suggestions?

Once collated I shall post the results after seasons end.

perhaps do a separate one for the dgws?

I think its ok to use posters histories because if they have put in their bio they are fine with others seeing it...

      nice idea, should be interesting!

A green/red arrow is no indication of whether the hit was a success.

Perhaps there can be a few conclusions. Success after 1 GW, success after 3 GW's etc

Rank difference over a particular number of GW's? It would get confusing if there were more hits during that time though I guess.

Was it successful or not depends also on what would have been the results without making the transfer. They could have had a bigger green/red arrow.

If the sample is large enough, and a positive conclusion for hits is clear enough, then I think the weight of probability would indicate that the hits were a success.

The length of success wasn't really what I was thinking though. More that your 8pt hit could have got you 20 points more than if you hadn't, but you could still get a red arrow or vice versa. Was that an unsuccessful hit?

But then again is one week enough, or perhaps 3, but then there's money and future transfers it prevents etc. Impossible to gather the true success of hits, but I do see the merit in getting an indicative answer like what you're thinking.

Yeah..it becomes impossibly complicated very quickly in reality...although it's perhaps nice to know the likely immediate impact of hits on OR provided those hots are well thought out...or not as the case may be.

      1. Not on this sort of scale as far as I am aware
      2. I think its fine to use peoples histories if their team is linked
      3. 30 minimum but it must be by posters across a broad range of ranks (not just top 10k players)
      4. Exclude DGW's just to make the broad assumption a fair test

I think its OK to use folks histories, its publicly available info anyway! I think you'd need at least 20 to even begin to make it meaningful. For me its 2:1 in favour (was 2:0 before the ill fated gwk 37!).

Personally I have no problem with a well placed -4 or -8. Particularly if you are bringing in known potential high scorers. In those circumstances its frequent that only one of them will have to pay off for it to be worth it.

A beneficial by-product being that the week after it might be the other guy you bought in that scores big - so the effects of a well placed hit can be far reaching)

I think if you acknowledge the limitations of this study it will be worthwhile and interesting, particularly if they did provide green arrows straight away after 1 GW.

Should be interesting. But stronger proof of the success or otherwise of each hit would be obtained if it was possible to compare the GW score after a hit with the GW score that would have resulted without the hit. And it isn't just the number of hits that were successful that counts - more important is the number of points by which each one succeeded or failed.

However, even if your analysis indicates that the 8 point hits were cumulatively profitable, it would not necessarily imply that we ought to have taken more 8 point hits than we did, just that they are not always bad. There were probably good reasons why we did not take more 8 point hits, and the ones that we didn't take would probably not have paid off as well as the ones that we did.

I track my own. Think that is the only way. I know how I would have ordered my bench if no hit so I can work out it's success. All other criteria is a bit dodgy - green/red assumes the difference would have switched the arrow. I have had some very good GWs despite an unnecessary hit and had some poor ones which would have been even worse without the hit!

So yeah, I would advocate self reflection on this point. GL though!

What's the consensus on Kosc? Will he even play?
Given the situation with quite some rotation in the Arsenal squad do you fancy a CS is even likely?

Kosc to Baines for -4 still madness, right?

It's guesswork. Im sure Verm will play, but whereas Mertz has played more, Kosc style is more liable to injury. I'm keeping him but looking closely at my bench options.

I cant see any logic in playing him to be honest. I think a mixture of Arteta, Flamini, Diaby, Wilshere and Zelalem in his place. I'll be starting him anyway because Im not sure what Wenger is thinking, whether he wants a points tally, or wants to keep momentum, im not sure.

Yaya / Erik / Mata / Ram along with Rooney / Aguero and the bare 3 at the back.
If I knew he won't start I'd ditch but then he still could score regardless of starting or not ,
He's a game breaker for a lot this week.
