Ben Foster begins our review of the Fantasy Football Scout team of the season.

The former United stopper arrived at St Andrews with the task of replacing Joe Hart whose heroics had previously kept the Birmingham goals conceded column in check in spectacular style. Alex McLeish’s capture of Foster was shrewd – despite the doubts surrounding his credentials at international level, on the domestic front, Foster had proved himself a superb goalkeeping prospect with shot-stopping skills to rival even the precocious talents of Hart.

Foster benefited early on from the resolute partnership of new-signing Roger Johnson and Scott Dann but, when this was disrupted by Dann’s injury in January, Foster’s importance to Birmingham’s bid for survival became even more apparent.

Ultimately however, not even his improbable reflexes could prevent Birmingham from being banished to the Championship on the final day.

The Statistics

Available for a sum of 4.5 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, Foster was earmarked early in pre-season as a likely leading contender in our squads, as the acquisition of a cheap keepers remained a popular stance.

Hart was a key figure in shaping that strategy. Birmingham had kept 11 clean sheets in the previous season with Hart offering incredible value at just 4.0 in front of their back four. Birmingham and Foster struggled to match that this – two shut-outs in the opening eight matches was a shaky start, although Brum did rally to gather nine in total, with four in six games arriving between October and November, before injury ended Dann’s season.

Foster mainly relied on strong Save Point returns to supplement his tally and justify his inclusion in our squads. A total of 178 saves topped the FPL rankings and fetched Foster at least one Save Point in 32 of his 38 starts.

The high-point of his season was undoubtedly the 1-0 home win over Chelsea in November – Foster made 8 saves in total to deny Carlo Ancelotti’s fading force, with a maximum three Bonus Points completing an 11 point haul.

The Prospects

It seems inconceivable that Foster will remain in Birmingham’s relegated squad to ply his trade back in the Championship. Likely transfer destinations will materialise in the coming months; Tottenham, Aston Villa and West Brom are already being flagged up in the press.

Fantasy Managers will again be hoping that he’ll find his way to a club outside of the top six, hopefully ensuring that Foster remains at least a mid-price option to offer value again next season.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Guys. Hows this for a bet?

    http://www.bet365.com/news/en/betting/press-releases/how-many-changes-will-fergie-make-for-the-champions-league-final

bet365 are 4/7 that fewer than four of the starting eleven against Schalke on Wednesday are given the nod by Fergie for the final at Wembley on 28th May. (Van Der Sar, Rafael, Smalling, Evans, O’Shea, Gibson, Scholes, Anderson, Valencia, Berbatov, Nani)

I think the line up has to be that of which played in the first leg against Schalke - VDS, Fabio, Vidic, Rio, Evra, Valencia, Carrick, Giggs, Park, Rooney, Chicharito. Tell me if you think different?

That means only VDS and Valencia are involved. Giving room for one more if Fergie springs a change. Most likely being the RB spot, O'Shea or Rafael instead of Fabio. I guess you could argue Giggs could be dropped for Anderson but I can't see it.

    Discuss...

Hopefully it causes a X-Factor civil war, where they all turn on each other in a fit of rage over the injustice of the lovely Cheryl being sacked. Hopefully it is a long and bloody civil war which ends with Louis Walsh and Simon Cowell standing a top of a mound of the bloodied and cleaved corpses of the other tossbags that are on the show. Hopefully the two of them then shoot each other simultaneously in the head.
Hopefully they will then put something decent on the telly instead of that load of balls.
      Hopefully.

Someone uses that as a username on here, surprised you haven't heard of it before.

I can well imagine that Tuncay (the player, that is) got used to hearing his name chanted backwards by angry VfL Wolfsburg fans after his move there in the transfer window.

Tuncay has only made four appearances in the Bundesliga since then, scoring no goals and playing poorly, so Wolfsburg are now looking to offload him and his high salary to Besiktas over the summer.

Classic case of a high earner, who's past their best, being shipped off to Turkey. Rumours keep going around that Drogba is Galatasary-bound. If there's mass delirium when someone like Darius Vassell moves to Turkey, I can't begin to imagine the scenes Drogba made the move.

Redknapp down to 5/6 at Paddy Power to become the next Chelsea manager.

I can't work out if this is tragic, or quite amusing.

It would be amazing. Just imagine how many transfers he'd make this summer.

+1- but they'd all be mid price failures.

Hope they're looking forward to Jenas, Defoe, Crouch and Pavyluchenko at the Bridge..... 😆

Is there some kind of plastic that you can melt, pour into a mould, and that sets hard? I need to replace a cog in an old CD drive

I'm sure whatever solution you come up with will be less cost-effective or simple than 'buy a new one'.

I wouldn't be too sure. It's a mechanism for a CD drive on a Japanese console that was out of production around 20 years ago - a "brand new" one would be incredibly rare, probably £200+, and suffer from the same problem.
