With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the  Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please encourage those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial lineups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

First up, I’ve decided to post my current lineup. I’ve opted for a squad that has a spread of money across the positions, with two rotating goalkeepers and a strong focus on the four to five teams I think are most likely to profit from goals and clean sheets. It also shows a strong bias towards those teams with favourable early fixtures and, hopefully, it’s set up to be flexible enough to make quick early repairs.

Guzan (Krul)

Terry Evans NTaylor (Wisdom, Duff)

Ramsey Hazard Mata Henderson (Albrighton)

Rooney Adebayor Dzeko

0.5m in the bank

My main deliberation surrounds whether to go with Diego Costa up front and and an 8.5 midfielder, probably Rahaeem Sterling, instead of my current selection of Emmanuel Adebayor and Eden Hazard. That gives me a Gameweek 2 option to possibly swap one of Jordan Henderson or Sterling for Gylfi Sigurdsson, although I’m happy to keep both those Liverpool midfielders if a transfer is urgently required elsewhere. I do feel that Hazard will be the top source of Chelsea points, however.

Alternatively, I could stick with Hazard and a 9.0 striker. Of this group, the main options seem to be Romelu Lukaku and Adebayor. This also gives me flexibility to hop on any emerging strikers who show promise for 8.5 or less. As you can see, I’m currently favouring this option.

Feel free to get stuck in with your feedback. We look forward to scanning your RMT’s throughout the day on this article.

i have noticed most people have 4+ not nailed on players in there teams, mostly in defence.

personally at the start of the season it is wise to have 11 players def 100% nailed.

i think people are trying to get cheap defences and are going for punts like Cameron, Bavies, Mariappa, Chambers, Bruce.....

It is an easy trap to fall into.

what is everyone else's thoughts on this?

Agreed. Personally I would like all my players to be definite starters. The problem this year is the lack of 4,0/4,5 nailed on players in DEF, and so many (potential) heavy-hitters in MID, causing people to gamble on the DEF budget options in order to afford the big guns

yeah. i managed to get a very strong midfield with a defence of..

        ward pieters chester ferdinand wisdom

4/5 of those are 100% and will get decent returns.

    Out of 10?

    Krul Foster

    Shaw Debuchy B.Davies Cameron N.Taylor

    Hazard Mata Eriksen Sigurdsson Ward-Prowse

    Sturridge Rooney Fletcher

    A) Mata, Ramsey/Ozil or Silva?

    B) Would you prefer Silva/Sterling & Giroud/Bony/Dzeko or Sigurdsson & Sturridge?

    C) There is 3 places up for grabs. Money to spend 16.5 on 4th and 5th Mid and 3rd Striker, Best options?

    Mannone

    Cesc/Sanchez/Lamela/Ramsey/Sigs

    Rooney/Remy

    Krul/Ferd/Vlarr/Murray

    I could change cesc/remy for yaya/nugent

Mannone is a problem; he and Pantilimon have shared gametime in pre-season and Poyet says he hasn't decided yet. Not keen on your defence at all:

      - Davies is competing with Danny Rose (and the way I read it, Rose is first choice)
      - Enrique almost certainly won't start, at least not for long, with Rodgers in for Moreno
      - Debuchy has poor fixtures to start with and gets a lot of yellow cards (Gibbs if you must go Gunner)

I like the 3-5-2 but I think it needs 2 very strong strikers to work. Try to find a way to upgrade Remy.

Yaya too expensive. And two Arsenal in mid is a risk. I would consider Sanchez to Mata, and Remy to Lukaku or even Bony and use the 0.5 to upgrade Vlaar to a 5 mil.

Hi, please RMT, find myself with 1.5m in the bank, any suggestions??

Do I need Arsenal/Man City coverage?

    DDG - (Elliot)

    Hazard - Mata - Tadic - Siggy - (Hoilett)

    Krul - Foster

    P.Jones - Luis - Cameron -(Wisdom - Bruce)

Hazard - Mata - Sanchez - Eriksen (Albrighton)

    Rooney - Dzeko - Long

Dzeko will be swapped for Bony after GW1 and I have to get Long out after GW5..

I know Long is "long shoot" 😉 However, the fixtures tells me he is gonna get some goals, and as you say it is difficult when I want that quality midfield.

I could downgrade Eriksen to i.e Snodgrass/Siggy/Hendo and get Remy, but I dont have a good feeling about Remy at the moment..

Jelavic is taking the pens at Hull, at the same price at Long, what you think.
Jela or Long? This season the Hull strikers with get more crosses to work with, Ince and Snodgrass both good suppliers...

Lost on bottom of last page:
    Current team:

    DdG (Gilks)
    Ward - Debuchy - Pieters (N.Taylor, Bruce)
Ramsey - Mata - Fabregas - Sigurdsson (Albrighton)
    Rooney - Costa - Jovetic

Strongly considering replacing Fab's with Sterling and swapping Debuchy with Luis.
Also Jovetic, don't quite feel the confidence 'bout him, so I'm tempted to downgrade to Bojan or Agbonlahor and upgrade defence or midfield.

    Your thoughts??

I like it Thomass although I think Rooney is the closest player to "essential" at this moment in time with United's fixtures and revival. Would find a way to fit him in somehow, perhaps by downgrading a midfielder, Howard or Lovren who I don't think warrants investment atm.

Caulker and Rio I think are the most nailed. I imagine Dunne will be the 3rd CB rather than Hill. Question marks on both the wing-back slots in their 3-5-2 though as Isla is signing. He could play on the left with Simpson on the right or he could play on the right and Yun/Traore on the left.

Interesting O'Shea pick. That lad has served me well in spells but I think van Aanholt might be the better pick for the same money. He has good attacking stats from his times on loan.

The rest looks good. Ask yourself whether Austin or Siggy will score the most, especially with their respective fixtures. (They're the same price). I don't know one way or the other but it's something you might not have considered.

Thanks for the reply, yeah I've had to settle for a pretty cheap defense, but I prefer to invest in big hitters in midfield/upfront.

Leicester/Southampton have near perfect home/away rotation all season so that was the excuse I used to force schmeichel into my team (as a Leicester fan!), despite Leicesters terrible opening fixtures.

a fair chunk more. hendo is unproven in attack but BR wants him to get forward so could take him a season to adapt to that role, he will outscore himself last season and is a good bargain but if you have funds for either then i would defo get sterling. he is coming into his own and is going to playing in the hole. he works hard and makes chances out of nothing and is only getting better and better. i think this is going to be sterling's season

sterling will get about the same, if not more, than ramsey and is .5 cheaper....i think 8.5 is a very decent and fair price for him. Ramsey is 9

agreed. thats the point i am trying to make with all the cheap not nailed on defenders is if you get a few injuries or suspensions its going to take hits to fix the problem, its very hard to have a strong bench but important to have one with starting players.

Hello all, would appreciate a RMT... but knowing the rate I'm changing my team, it'll probably be different by the time I get a response 😉

    De Gea (Gilks)
    Debuchy, Huth, Davies (Ward, Janmaat)
    Fabregas, Lamela. Mata, Tadic (Sigurdsson)
    Lukaku Rooney Austin

    - De Gea, Mata and Rooney probably won't change for the first ten or so games.
    - Defense rotates quite well, a bit worried about week 3, but that's what transfers are there for
    - Taking a punt on Austin for the first few home games which are kind enough to QPR.

    Ta!

Not convinced Janmaat is worth the 0.5 over Coloccini at this stage, even if you don't spend the extra it could be useful to have in the bank.

That looks stacked enough in defence as it is to me, only one I'd upgrade is Bruce who is unlikely to start. I'd either switch to Wisdom/Duff/Moore or invest another 0.5 into a guaranteed starter.

Entire Chelsea back line? That's bold. A bit too risky for my blood as there's no way Ivanovic doesn't get game time, in a game without subs I think you need to limit the risk of rotation.

Hey guys. Am new to this site, but am impressed by the depth of information/knowledge on show. Could you RMT please?

    DDG/Foster
    Baines/Vertonghen/Clyne/Cameron/RTaylor
    Hazard/Ramsey/Eriksen/Siggy/Albrighton
    Rooney/Lukaku/Wickham

I think I've spent too much on defence and am also nervous about Wickham.

I like it although if I were going for DDG in goal I'd get a 4.0m GK to pair with him and just play DDG every week. Also, R Taylor is not a starter - Coloccini is probably the best 4.5m Newcastle defender.

It's nice otherwise - Wickham is an interesting one, is he likely to start?

Thanks Greenwindmill. Actually I meant Swansea's NTaylor - was clearly getting confused by NUFC's full-back!

I know what you mean by downgrading Foster, but the £4.0M goalies are all so rubbish. It breaks my heart to swap him.

Whether Wickham starts or not is one of my main concerns, but I don't know too much about any of the other forwards at that price range.

    RMT?

    Cameron - Evans* - Trippier - Ward - NTaylor
Hazard - Tadic - De Jong - Eriksen - Sigurdsson
    Rooney - Lukaku - Soldado
    0.5 in the bank

    * Evans or whoever seens most nailed on in MU def

Tadic, De Jong and Soldado feels like the gambles here. Downgrade Soldado to upgrade one or two mid is a possibility. Thoughts?

GKs? Soldado is definitely a gamble, and going for Trippier is almost too, his returns will be exciting to see. Id go 1 up and 1 down with Tadic/De Jong, getting 1 more big hit and 1 budget option that can rotate with Sigurd

I rather like it. Double Swans is brave but no reason it can't work out.

I take it your plan is to rotate Siggy and Bojan? That's my biggest gripe with it; you'll torture yourself with big hauls on the bench.

(By the way, you might get more replies if you take the time to write your team out. A lot of people are too lazy to open a link 😉 )

Ah so Jonty said - lesson learned for next time!

Well, I'd actually rather just play Siggy, mainly because I prefer him and think he has more potential to grab those big hauls than Bojan does.

Yeah, I'm a bit surprised by Bony really - had a really good debut season, should only improve, scored about 17 goals, at a reasonably cheap 8.5m - yet only about 9% ownership!

In that case, I think 5.5 is too much for a bench-warmer.

You could try the old money in the bank approach - drop Bojan to a 4.5 non-player like Zamora and keep 1m in the bank for the inevitable transfers. Makes it less likely that you'll need to take a hit for an "essential" GW2 knee-jerk 🙂

I think a lot of people are waiting to see what happens with Bony. If he moves to Liverpool or Spurs, we'll see an influx of ownership. Great player.

            Good call!

I've not heard much about Bony leaving so I would be surprised if he left, but you never know. I think you're right, it would be good to have £1m as backup, or at least £0.5m. Then the inevitable 'knee jerk' move won't be so painful.

I'm still getting used to the look of this approach, as I've never started with a 'budget' 3rd striker, but there are so many fantastic midfield options this year that I just can't leave any out!

Thanks though Roscola, really appreciate your insight into this - much appreciated 🙂

If you want Man Utd & Chelsea defensive cover I'd consider Courtois/Evans instead of DDG/Cahill. It's £0.5m but with doubts over the Chelsea defensive line up offers a little more security and Evans has a decent goal threat.

Also, chances are you want Chelsea defence for the long haul whereas you may decide to move away from Man Utd's back line - easier to shift a defender than a goalkeeper in my experience.

S Taylor is not a likely starter - the extra 0.5 could be used to upgrade to Coloccini.

I prefer Dzeko to Giroud, but both are very strong options at that price.
