The Carlos Tevez transfer saga has taken another twist with news that Corinthians have pulled out of their bid to acquire the Argentine’s services overnight. With the Brazilian transfer deadline closing tonight, Tevez’s former club have moved to confirm their interest in the deal has now ended by releasing an official statement:

“While acknowledging the efforts of Manchester City, and everyone involved in the negotiations, there wasn’t enough time for the transfer to be completed. We are aware our fans wanted Tevez to join our club again and we hope we can have the player with us in the future”

Although City were willing to make certain allowances for the deal to go through -including agreeing to various staggered payments- Corinthians appear to have little financial muscle and were reportedly unable to even afford the initial £8.7m down payment.

The collapse of the deal leaves Roberto Mancini with an unhappy star player and the City boss will surely still want to move Tevez on in order to avoid any squad unrest. A move to Inter Milan has been cited, once again, and although this will hardly help alleviate the player’s homesickness, Tevez clearly wants out of Manchester as soon as possible- both Samuel Eto’o and Wesley Sneijder have been linked with possible swap deals.

The collapse of the deal also may also have a knock-on effect for Sergio Aguero. Aguero was considered to be on the verge of moving to Eastlands as Tevez’s replacement and his club Ateltico Madrid have already acquired a new forward in anticipation of his departure, snapping up Adrián López from Deportivo La Coruña. City still look likely to complete the Aguero purchase over the next few days, thus beating the likes of Juventus to his signature.

It’s not as if City are lacking in top-class forwards- both Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli could fill the breach in the likely event of Tevez leaving and Balotelli has also had his say on the matter, moving to assure City fans of his intentions for next season:

It doesn’t matter if Carlos is here or not. If Carlos is here it’s good but if he goes away I’m sure someone else will arrive. I’m excited about the way things are going at the club. This is a good club, the players are amazing. I hope there will be a lot of goals to come from me this season. I know I can score a lot more. I will show this season what I can do.

With six weeks left till the closure of the domestic transfer window, this story is likely to run and run.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Just got this email
    Good morning,

The new game will start shortly, although there is no fixed date as yet. You will need to select another team. However, your login details will remain the same. For league administrators there will also be an option to restart your leagues.

Look forward to seeing you again next season, and good luck!

Right this is the same mail they sent people previously - they have now changed the words 'mid-July' for 'shortly'. Basically it is going to be later than mid-July i.e not any time soon.

Yes it did, but the real warning flag comes from the 'no fixed date as yet'. In other words they are still trying to sort out issues and have no idea when they will be able to launch.

    Good article Sir P.

I am hoping that the likes of Mr Tevez and Mr Fabregas move to new pastures green, as without a doubt their is a huge potental for them to score big points within the FPL but these huge clouds over there willingness/happiness to play at thier respective clubs is a huge problem.

If they stay, i will get them at some point within the season (if not straight away) and god be damned if I get them whilst there personal issues effect them.
Mind, i am not saying that I want these guys unhappy.

    Moved my rant!

Just a note to the Nasri’s and Clichy’s of this world. If you are leaving a club due to lack of silverware, then maybe take a long, hard look at yourselves.
YOU were in that team and therefore fully responsible for the end of season choke that lost 4 trophies!
If you played BETTER then you may have won?
So take your s%&t attitude and go to another team with your bad attitudes and see if they are any better, when you chjoke again next season!!
    Rant over!

Top class players leaving for trophies
      seems reasonable

Granted clichy is a bit shit, but nasri is right to look elsewhere

And clichy did point to the lack of depth at Arsenal as one issue, completely correct

i don't think it is reasonable. if they were top class, they should have dragged that team to trophies themselves. man city were, at times, a one man team last season. argentina of 1982 vintage possibly the most extreme example. it's a convenient excuse to get more money and absolve themselves of shared culpability.

But isnt it a genuine reason in many cases?
This is often why players leave clubs mid table for the top four.

And it has to be said that Arsenals lack of trophies in recent years points to an issue.

The manner in which Arsenal bottled there potential 4 trophy hall (is that how u spell it/?) last year falls on the players. The lack over the years does not!

In addition players can only do as much as they are given role to. If clichy went on rampages tryin to take on every player he would be shot. In addition we all know nasri gets puchsed aside for fabregas when hes in the team.

          I can understand their sentiments!

true, but one of the problems of modern sport is that everyone aims to win trophies (fair enough) but there is little pragmatism from players or fans. there can only be one winner of each trophy each year and arsenal's "continual failures" of recent years are actually an achievement. most clubs in the premiership would consider umpteen top three or four finishes to be successful. people will point to a club of arsenal's size/stature/history, etc. but that's not always relevant.

I'm no arsenal fan but i can appreciate the football they add to the league. i would like to see that quality of play rewarded with trophies but ultimately, there are other good teams just as "entitled" to win the trophies.

2003/04 - Arsenal Premiership Champions undefeated.
That side should have gone on to dominate Premiership football, but instead Wenger allowed to break-up way to quickly.

Wenger was brilliant for 8 years, but ever since that 49 game unbeaten run came to an end he has never been the same. His continual waffle and fluffiness and protection of the youngsters and allowing failure to be accepted is why we repeatedly choke. After all if the manager can continue to fail and still be regarded highly then why should the players have any character at all.

Fergie doesn't let his players fail and that is why Man U remain winning trophies, while Wenger considers finishes in the top 4 an achievement. Wenger buys relatively cheap or brings throught the young so when trophies don't follow, he can point to his philosophy and not be criticised for wasting money.

However it was Wenger who wanted to move to the Emirates from Highbury so that we could compete on the World Stage. That was his vision and it has proven to be an awful choice. We have swapped the World Class team for a World Class Stadium and with it has gone countless trophies that we used to enjoy with regularity (even before Wenger, under George Graham).

If only the Champions League qualification wasn't extended down to 3rd/4th place, as Wenger would either have to spend to get in the top 2 or would by now have parted as a failure!

If they're employed by FPL and the FPL are resolutely refusing to put a set date on it, then whoever's working on the site is probably contractually obliged not to give a set date.
      Vague soon/shortly promises: OK

Not too long left to the RWC now! What do you reckon your guys chances are of retaining it? It's difficult to look past the All Chokers isn't it.

We got a chance. So do the Aussies. Reckon the Cup's definitely staying south. But it's very difficult to look past the ABs. Here's hoping they meet the French in the QFs. Or they crumble under the weight of expectation. Go the BOKS!

Frenchies are in the same Pool as The ABs iirc. Scotland, if we get out of our group as I feel we should, are going to have to play one of them in the QF (probably New Zealand). England/Argentina will play the other.

Just checked. Pool A France & NZ. Good luck to the Scots though. You might get a chance to exact some revenge for your 2007 WC QF loss to Argentina.

        ---------Iniesta Xavi-------
        --------------Cesc----------

I though all the former Yugoslav states wouldn't like being conflated with other nations of that regime, least of all the dominant country.

An analogy would be foreigners calling Scots, Welsh, Irish people English or confusing the terms GB/UK/England.

Seemingly FPL has been the reason for 90% of the breakups amongst couples in 2010. The subject matter consultants proposed that should the couples wish to stay together then the FPL player at concern should not refresh for more than 5 times a day. Since that has epicly failed the ministries have formally requested from FPL that they posrpone their services for season 2011-2012 till the right controls are put in place as to ensure FPL players can enjoy the game while having a life - FPL obliged for an undisclosed fee.
