The Carlos Tevez transfer saga has taken another twist with news that Corinthians have pulled out of their bid to acquire the Argentine’s services overnight. With the Brazilian transfer deadline closing tonight, Tevez’s former club have moved to confirm their interest in the deal has now ended by releasing an official statement:

“While acknowledging the efforts of Manchester City, and everyone involved in the negotiations, there wasn’t enough time for the transfer to be completed. We are aware our fans wanted Tevez to join our club again and we hope we can have the player with us in the future”

Although City were willing to make certain allowances for the deal to go through -including agreeing to various staggered payments- Corinthians appear to have little financial muscle and were reportedly unable to even afford the initial £8.7m down payment.

The collapse of the deal leaves Roberto Mancini with an unhappy star player and the City boss will surely still want to move Tevez on in order to avoid any squad unrest. A move to Inter Milan has been cited, once again, and although this will hardly help alleviate the player’s homesickness, Tevez clearly wants out of Manchester as soon as possible- both Samuel Eto’o and Wesley Sneijder have been linked with possible swap deals.

The collapse of the deal also may also have a knock-on effect for Sergio Aguero. Aguero was considered to be on the verge of moving to Eastlands as Tevez’s replacement and his club Ateltico Madrid have already acquired a new forward in anticipation of his departure, snapping up Adrián López from Deportivo La Coruña. City still look likely to complete the Aguero purchase over the next few days, thus beating the likes of Juventus to his signature.

It’s not as if City are lacking in top-class forwards- both Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli could fill the breach in the likely event of Tevez leaving and Balotelli has also had his say on the matter, moving to assure City fans of his intentions for next season:

It doesn’t matter if Carlos is here or not. If Carlos is here it’s good but if he goes away I’m sure someone else will arrive. I’m excited about the way things are going at the club. This is a good club, the players are amazing. I hope there will be a lot of goals to come from me this season. I know I can score a lot more. I will show this season what I can do.

With six weeks left till the closure of the domestic transfer window, this story is likely to run and run.

So after reading all that twitter stuff this morning, it turns out I vaguely know one of the guys working on the FPL launch. All I can confirm is they're working hard and genuinely don't know an exact date. He obviously couldn't give me any specifics, but they're doing their best.

I realise this is pretty useless information but possibly very slightly better than nothing!

Adebayor is a better goalscorer than Crouch is, better with his feet and they are both good in the air.

Adebayor is a very good player if the right manager has him, Crouch is just an average player, above average in height and average in footballing ability.

Crouch is so much more than an average player, in every way, in my unfashionable opinion.

Adebayor is a clutz with above average ability, and an appalling attitude, and an arrogant sh*t to boot. Also has no positional sense whatsoever ...

He showed pretty good attitude with Madrid last season, he had a bad attitude because of how he was being treated.
I don't even have words to describe how little I think of Crouch.

He's better than any current Spurs striker, but I can't see Spurs fans warming to him and he seems to have a habit of ruining team spirit wherever he goes. Some teams can afford bad team spirit, Spurs aren't one of them.

i think he's about the best spurs will get so they should risk the questionable temperament and go for it if they can. he may sometimes take about 3 good chances to score but he always seems to get the chances and that's a good thing imo.

After the final, it was announced that Lloyd had been signed by Syco Music.[42] Her debut album has been confirmed and is due for release on 7 November 2011.[54] She has worked with songwriter Autumn Rowe and producer RedOne.[55][56] Her debut single is called "Swagger Jagger", which received its first airplay on 20 June. The single was leaked onto the internet on 15 June[57] however, this version was later confirmed as only the demo of the track on Lloyd's Twitter account.[58] Lloyd performed at T4 on the Beach in 2011.[59] After "Swagger Jagger" bombed with the public, selling only 38 copies (mostly to family and friends) Cher decided to look into street prostitution as a viable career alternative. She was last seen on a darkened corner of Crwys Road, Cardiff sometime in mid-July 2011.

So reasons for FPL delays.....what do we think? Can't be going for a fee per entry model as a late launch is counter intuitive if they want to maximise revenue. So is it because they have big changes to the format? I think this must be the core reason. Our ruminations on vice captain changes etc might just be the tip of the iceberg. Maybe they are delivering something much more radical. If so what??? Ideas?

What does everyone think of these possible bargains:

Gibbs - could fill the void left by clichy.

O'Shea - With the captains armband a potential could be a star performer.

Walcott - Started last year with a bang maybe he'll bring consistency into his game. Wont be cheap cheap but certainly a potential to add value.

Pratley - Scored on his Debut for the trotters and given their new style of play could be involved in the goals.

Adam - Brilliant last year but will he even get in the team this time around at the kop.

Ethrington - Everything good from Stokes usually goes through him.

Sinclair - Can he transform his Championship form to the prem?

N'zogbia - Brilliant towards the end of last season and an even greater potential for a good points haul if he makes his switch to Villa.

O'Hara & Jarvis- With Wolves lacking in creativity everything seems to go through him or Jarvis.

    Sessegnon - Good potential

    Odemwingie - Great gw's after GW3

Ba - took to the prem like the proverbial duck.

      Adam will be an anti-bargain.
      Odemwingie may be too dear.
      N'zogs will be 7ish.
O'shea will be priced as you would expect a SUN defender i.e. 5-5.5.
Sinclair will depend if he's a MF.

    TOUR DE FRANCE

Can someone explain to me how it works, how they decide who wins, what the green / yellow jacket stuff means?

Yellow jersey is the GC (General Classification) which is the overall time, Green jersey is done in points which are picked up for being first passed certain points (most at the finish line and flat areas of the course), Polkadot jersey is for the best climber and like the green jersey is decided on points awarded for being first passed certain points, White jersey is for the best young rider (under 25) who completes the tour in lowest overall time.

The teams can act as pace-setters to get their lead rider where he needs to be (either catching riders ahead of him or leading a breakaway).

It is such a tactical sport the teams are very important and have different types of riders who are good at the different aspects, and they will help each other depending on what kind of stage it is, they also have domestiques who go to the team car and carry food and drink to the leaders.

The riders are timed and whoever finishes the tour with the lowest time wins. The yellow jersey is worn by whoever is in the lead at the end of the previous day's stage.

The green jersey is for sprinters - each stage is divided into sections and points are awarded for crossing the line first, second, third etc. Whoever has the most sprint points wears green. Similar for pola-dot jersey (king of the mountains) and there's a jersey for best young rider (white, I think?).

The way they calculate the times is a bit weird - if a large group of riders finish together they are awarded the same time, although in the case of the main group (known as the peleton) it can take a while (a few minutes?) for everyone to cross the line.

They do the time like that because it stops big groups fighting to cross the line, preventing unnecessary accidents.

the are also individual and team time trials, usually over shorter distances (around half an hour's spinning) where the team or individual start a minute or three apart and where they all race against the clock only - usually a damn good watch!
