The Carlos Tevez transfer saga has taken another twist with news that Corinthians have pulled out of their bid to acquire the Argentine’s services overnight. With the Brazilian transfer deadline closing tonight, Tevez’s former club have moved to confirm their interest in the deal has now ended by releasing an official statement:

“While acknowledging the efforts of Manchester City, and everyone involved in the negotiations, there wasn’t enough time for the transfer to be completed. We are aware our fans wanted Tevez to join our club again and we hope we can have the player with us in the future”

Although City were willing to make certain allowances for the deal to go through -including agreeing to various staggered payments- Corinthians appear to have little financial muscle and were reportedly unable to even afford the initial £8.7m down payment.

The collapse of the deal leaves Roberto Mancini with an unhappy star player and the City boss will surely still want to move Tevez on in order to avoid any squad unrest. A move to Inter Milan has been cited, once again, and although this will hardly help alleviate the player’s homesickness, Tevez clearly wants out of Manchester as soon as possible- both Samuel Eto’o and Wesley Sneijder have been linked with possible swap deals.

The collapse of the deal also may also have a knock-on effect for Sergio Aguero. Aguero was considered to be on the verge of moving to Eastlands as Tevez’s replacement and his club Ateltico Madrid have already acquired a new forward in anticipation of his departure, snapping up Adrián López from Deportivo La Coruña. City still look likely to complete the Aguero purchase over the next few days, thus beating the likes of Juventus to his signature.

It’s not as if City are lacking in top-class forwards- both Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli could fill the breach in the likely event of Tevez leaving and Balotelli has also had his say on the matter, moving to assure City fans of his intentions for next season:

It doesn’t matter if Carlos is here or not. If Carlos is here it’s good but if he goes away I’m sure someone else will arrive. I’m excited about the way things are going at the club. This is a good club, the players are amazing. I hope there will be a lot of goals to come from me this season. I know I can score a lot more. I will show this season what I can do.

With six weeks left till the closure of the domestic transfer window, this story is likely to run and run.

So what are peoples thoughts on the Phil Jones move to Man U?

I dont know, personally when your one big request is playing time, why move to a team that already has 4 starting defenders with another 2 or 3 ready to go. I can understant the lure of being at a big club like Man U but not at the expense of sitting on the bench for over half the season.

He'll get plenty of game time with Rio's injuries needing to be managed - I think Smalling played 33 games for Utd last season.

Didn't he play most of his games last year as DM?

Utd's only DM at the moment is Carrick.

C'mon, you can figure this out!

Last season Smalling started at 5.0, Johnny Evans started at 5.5(!), so something like that.

No idea about his value. I bet it's more than 4.2 though. He'll be like all Utd backup players: about 5m.

So if he was to get some decent playing time, he might not be a bad pick-up then. Especially if he was to pick up some time playing in the mid.

Regarding his playing time at Man, you brought up some good points there PFOR, I also didnt realize how young Jones was. At 19 years of age, being at Man U will deffinitly help him to grow as a player, even if he doesnt get tons of playing time.

He'll get plenty of opportunities, him and Smalling will probably play the majority of the CL Group stages, and fill in when Rio/Vidic are injured/suspended. He can play in midfield too so he'll get his fair share of games. Training with the likes of Ferdinand and Vidic (and the rest of the squad for that matter) can only help him and is probably more important than playing a full season. I can see him getting 15+ appearances in all competitions next season. He was bought as a long-term option you know.

Im not overly bothered about the delay to the launch of FPL but would like it open as most of us would.

With the delay i wounder when the guys at FPL decided that they were going to change the desing of the site?

Surley they would of started testing in Janurary or something so they would have it ready for July rather than now having problems going into late July.

Im sure they'll have it ready in plenty of time but i bet they wished they tested it earlier.

But then again im not expert in seting up websites!

Yeah mate but holograms weren't available in January. Now it will be marvelous. When u r gonna click on a player to transfer in u'll see him in front of u how is shooting, heading, defending etc. He will give u statement is he injured or not? U'll be able to keep track of the managers while they are having bath and thinking the weekend lineup. Plenty more to come, stay put boys and girls.

        Great idea that would be.

Each player has to give a statement each gameweek explaining why you should pick them.

And then watch them deliver none of what they said!

Right! I'm off for a pint. I expect everyone to stop moaning by the time I get back.

FPL will start sometime, in the meantime,do some other leagues to get your hand in.

Metro or Mail for the prem.
    Texaco for the Championship.

Although Texaco will require some football knowledge or reading outside the pampered and over-rated overpaid players of the prem.

Mmmmm, a nice pint of Guinness would go down nicely, but have poxy VAT returns to get done, so i'm afraid it's a nice cold bottle of Kopparberg and about 2000 invoices to go through...not great, but it could be worse....Sláinte

Funny watching Mourinho with his "chin up" gesture to the Chelsea fans.

I find it laughable how the British media are throwing all these VB-Mourinho similarities around. They're desparate for another character like José, and they won't find him in Villas-Boas.

Sadly, I fear I may be partial to a few hooped players in my team.

Kenny definitely and, if Taarabt stays him too. Bothroyd or DJ if he signs. Naughton too if Spurs let him come.

In relation to the article rather than when will the game launch...

Tevez is the single worst human being in the sport, worse than Busquets.

"Oh woe is me I'm home sick, I miss the one woman on the entire planet who agreed to have sex with me, I want to move closer to Argentina...like Spain."

This rotten little swine of a man is earning £59,000,000.00 from his 5 years of 'hell' with Manchester city.

He has lived in England by his own choice (not shipped over in chains as he would have you think) for 5 years and not learnt any English at all and complains about not being able to intergrate over here.

He complains about Manchester repeatedly but grew up in the slum of Ejército de Los Andes.

He's a rotten little sot who needs a massive reality check, the sooner he pisses off out of the premiership the better.

He will be remembered for being a massive whining Blanka looking tool before a great footballer in this country and every country where this situation will no doubt arise from in the future.

    F**k Carlos Tevez.

He and Kia Joorabchian are one of the three main reasons why West Ham are in their current mess. It's not all about the football - we have suffered from very weak management and it's getting worse. A huge hole was blown in our already weak finances ...

            Why do you blame Tevez?

it wasn't him that f*cked up the paperwork. Nor was it him that sued West ham because they stayed up by accumulating more points than at least three teams, nor was he in the court that ruled against West Ham for that reason.

even as a united fan i dont understand that kind of criticism
he works harder than any other player, SHOULD have been player of the year last year and scored some phenomenal goals, makign him immensely populer with the fans of all the clubs he's played for.

I'm not trying to tell him where to ply his trade, he's contracted to City in one of the most lucrative contracts in football history and should play out his contract there.

I'm saying if his situation is as unbearable as he constantly makes out he should make a huge financial sacrifice to rectify it or shut up whinging.

He won't give up the money.

When did he say he wanted to go to Spain or Italy? Exactly never. He said he wanted to return home.

If he does move to a European club, then he can be abused and whatnot, but its not like hes trying to force through a move to either of those.

        It's utter crap Soup.

He is incredibly rich, Euro lottery rich, he's not in an ugly people's concentration camp.

He could easily resign and retire from the sport if he was serious, he could easily buy his way out of his contract or agree a settlment deal with city and go back to Argentinian club at a massive pay cut.

There are a million ways he could be closer to his kids at home but the one common denominator in all of this is money massive amounts of it, almost every transfer story you hear about him the interested party are put off by his huge wage demands.

He wants to be somewhere else, fair enough, but don't cry yourself a river for this mercenary's awful sob story.

Corithians could not afford to make the £8.3million down payment before the deadline or provide bank guarantees for the full amount.

He was going to be on in excess of £150k a week, hardly poverty is it.

No it isn't, but it's still less then he's making now. You're making out like hes leaving for more money. Im not sure how Corinthians not being able to afford the installments to City is Tevez' fault. That's between City and Corinthians.

If he was serious about ending his 'awful' predicament with the massive resources he has at his disposal he could find a way to move back to Argentina, continue playing football and be close to his family...just not earn £1million per month.

My point is he is not willing to do that.

    Suarez or Bent?

Suarez: Instrumental part of Liverpools attack, mixture of easy and tough fixtures, slight concern over being rested.

Bent: Easy fixtures, spearhead of Villa's attack, maybe less offfensive under Mcleish and currently lacking in support.

    Currently thinking....... Torres, Zamoura, Suarez/Bent
