After examining the beneficiaries of the forthcoming fixture schedule in yesterday’s article, today it’s the turn of the less fortunate sides. A number of last season’s high flyers have testing schedules over the next four to six Gameweeks that could counsel caution over their Fantasy assets.

Man City

“involvement

The champions hammered all comers at the Etihad last season and will be hoping to maintain that form as a couple of title rivals pay visit. With a dressing room full of world-class talent, Manuel Pellegrini’s outfit could well emerge from their upcoming fixture list with a barrel-full of goals and a pocket-full of clean sheets. But history says caution may still be required when faced with (LIV, ars, CHE) in the next four: of those same three fixtures last season, City won one, drew one and lost one, scoring just four goals and conceding in each game.

Anyone eyeing up David Silva after his goal against Newcastle may want to hold fire until easier fodder heaves into view, and a gamble on Sergio Aguero’s nascent fitness seems similarly risky. Likewise, with so much potential for rotation in defence, looking elsewhere may well be the safest option, at least for the time being. Gameweek 6, however, is a different story. A glorious period of fixtures will prove extremely tempting for Fantasy managers and many will doubtless be trying to figure out how to squeeze two or even three pricey Citizens into their squads.

Leicester

“involvement

A well-earned point against Everton signalled a bright start for Nigel Pearson’s side but there are tougher tests to come: the Foxes prepare to face Chelsea, Arsenal and Man United in the next four Gameweeks. Liam Moore got the nod to provide Fantasy managers with a precious 4.0 budget starter in defence, but few owners will be keen to start him over this schedule. Chris Wood came off the bench to grab a goal but is unlikely to tempt much investment, though Leonardo Ulloa was on a few radars following a successful campaign with Brighton. These fixtures suggest monitoring the Argentine and his strike partner, David Nugent, before investing, however. The Foxes’ schedule does clear markedly from Gameweek 7, an ideal time to invest if any of their players manage to impress in the interim period.

Aston Villa

“involvement

Touted for relegation by no fewer than nine of the scouts in our season’s predictions, Paul Lambert steered the Villains to a narrow victory over Stoke. The next two fixtures – home ties with Newcastle and Hull – look winnable too. Following that the Midlands club will need to batten down the hatches as they face a hurricane of title-chasing opponents in the shape of Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and City. Of course, after last season’s disappointments, few Villa players are gracing Fantasy Watchlists, let alone our squads, but the 4.0-priced Alan Hutton’s clean sheet in the opening Gameweek has caught the eye of some. Anyone holding him can make hay while the sun shines on the next two fixtures but clean sheets look improbable in the subsequent five.

BE WARY OF

Everton
Their winless record in pre-season was carried over into the opener as the Toffees struggled to close out a valiant Leicester. Such insipid form does not bode well considering the step up in quality of their upcoming opponents – encounters against Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man United in the next six Gameweeks suggest that Roberto Martinez will have his work cut out to ensure a favourable start to the league season, particularly with Europa league commitments to fulfil.

Last season’s hugely successful campaign has had the inevitable effect on the prices of the Everton defence, with even youngster John Stones being elevated to the upper mid-price bracket. With such hard-hitting adversaries on the agenda, investment looks too pricy for most. Aidan McGeady and Steven Naismith, on the other hand, seem very kindly priced and may be ready to step up this season, particularly with the expected long-term injury to Ross Barkley. However, even their most ardent suitors would surely admit that they’re likely to struggle for points in the short term. It looks wise to use the forthcoming fixtures to weigh up their likely pitch time before committing.

West Ham
A match of two cards eventually resulted in a loss for Sam Allardyce as his side were finally undone in stoppage time by Spurs. Traditionally, the Hammers’ appeal to Fantasy managers is limited to their hardy and well priced defence but Allardyce’s forays into the transfer market have so far suggested an increased focus on attacking prowess. Enner Valencia, Mauro Zarate, and Diafra Sakho are all hoping to announce themselves in the Premier League – the former catching some Fantasy eyes after a decent showing at the World Cup. But with a middling set of fixtures over the next six Gameweeks, including Liverpool and Man United and – crucially – only one truly tempting home game (QPR), points potential at either end of the pitch looks limited. Again, Fantasy managers are advised to use these fixtures for reconnaissance before the weather turns clement for the Hammers around Gameweek 7.

Liverpool
The win over Southampton was hardly convincing, as Liverpool attempt to come to terms with life without Luis Suarez. They may need to get up to speed more quickly if they are to start the season with much needed momentum, which won’t be helped by their next two fixtures against Man City and Tottenham. Investment in double-digit scorer Raheem Sterling has been strong this week but he will tested against those opponents, as will Daniel Sturridge. Brendan Rodgers’ defence picked up where it left off last season – conceding – and as such look unlikely to shut out City and Spurs, meaning the heavily backed Dejan Lovren may need to rely on his goal-scoring prowess to atone for a lack of clean sheets. However, the skies clear markedly from Gameweek 4 as the Reds embark upon a far stronger schedule.

Anyone reckon Pieters could be a decent pick at 5.0?

I doubt Muniesa steals much gametime from him.

HONESTLY I wouldn't be against waiting on him until pre-Hull, especially with the new changes to the price rises meaning it's very hard for him to go up .3 in a week, but it's also tempting to get him in for GW3 haha

    Sorry re-posting

Hi! I am going to stick with this team for GW2 and save my FT for next week.

    De Gea (Gilks)
    Debuchy Cahill Clyne (Wisdom Bruce)
Siggy Ramsey Mata Hazad (C) (Elmohamady)
    Costa Rooney Bojan

I think my defense is too expensive. So I might downgrade De Gea and Debuchy and upgrade Bojan.

Any comments or suggestions? Thanks 🙂

"Eriksen.. has the same influence, on more set pieces, had a season in the EPL, and plays for arguably the better side"

      Tadic for fixtures & spontaneity
      Eriksen for his experience.

if LVG could have his way we'd be playing a 433

in our case, something like this:
      ------ x ------
      x - x - x - x
      --- x -- x ---
      ------ x ------
      ------ x ------
      --- x -- x ---

(obviously looks terrible like that, but it's the only way I could see him fitting Mata/Rooney/RVP)

              Young, Janzai, Shaw etc.
its flexible, Mata can drop back during periods of pressue to make it a 5, the wide mids do have defensive responsibility

i guess he is still the number 10 behind RVP and Rooney. As they lined up to start on Saturday with RVP in Henadez's place?
Problem is they will have 3 brilliant players up top with Fletcher, Herrara, Cleverly, Fellani, Young etc charged with getting the ball to them

That's my worry. They don't dominate that centre of the pitch (got overran by Shelvy and Ki!) to be able to put any decent balls up front.

        Herrara was a tad disappointing.

I have a few questions on my gw2 wc team.

    Krul (Elliott)
    Terry, Clyne, Chester (Hutton, Moore)
    Ramsey, Silva, Sterling, Fabregas, Siggy
    Costa (c), Rooney (Naismith)

I used my wc to change from 3-4-3 to 3-5-2 to load my midfield.

I really like this team but it leaves me with 0.0 itb so if I want Aguero next week it's a problem. To raise the 1.5 to go Rooney to Aguero I was thinking getting rid of Silva & bringing in Tadic. Or I could leave Silva in & replace Terry with a 5.0 defender like Ward.

    So in summary
    (a) Terry & Tadic or
    (b) Ward & Silva or
    (c) Leave team as is & get Aguero gw6
    (d) Terry or Ivanovic.

    Thanks

Planning to play 3 defenders out of Terry, Naylor, Chester, Hutton and PVA. Checked the betting websites and the possibility of cleansheets ranked from highest to lowest.

    Chelsea (home to Leicester)
    Swansea (home to Burnley)
    Hull (home to Stoke)
    Aston Villa (home to Newcastle)
    Sunderland (home to ManUtd)

So it makes most sense to start Terry, Naylor, Chester and then Hutton on bench in front of PVA correct?

Just a tad worried about Hull after Europa, and whether PVA potential attack points could more than make up for the low odds of a cleansheet.

On another note, will you bench Henderson (away to ManCity) for any of the defenders above?

With Leroy Fer signing with QPR - are we expecting Fraulin to miss out on a starting berth? Fer|Barton|Mutch to be the starting centre midfield of choice for Redknapp?

I'm a little skeptical about whether Costa will be a good FPL prospect.

    - In the Burnley game he only had two shots
    - Tended to drop deep a lot.
    - Mourinho doesn't go for the kill and with a two goal lead he will instruct the team to close the game out without trying to extend the score.

    - There is also the usual Chelsea striker issue and the fact he is new to the league.

For these reasons I'm very reluctant to give him the armband this weekend. I'm wondering whether Rooney(sun) or Siggurdson(BUR) are better captaincy picks. Thoughts?

      I'm not sure too Ryan.

But he's odds on to win the gold boot, ahead of Sturridge, Aguero, RVP, Rooney.

I sitll think it's safer to have him and asses if you want to drop him after a few games.

No other better alternative for a big price tag at the moment is there?

I'm not sure I want to drop him. I just feel like he's not going to get big scores very often. He'll chip in with 7 or 8 points each week as he gets a goal or an assist, but I doubt whether he will be very explosive. I want a captain who is capable of getting massive hauls.

He could still be explosive I reckon, good touches inside the box and finishing is excellent. A brace will be considered excellent for his owners.

We would all like Chelsea to win a penalty to see who of Hazard, Fab and Costa steps up to take it.

Old man Drogba's hold/link up play, eye for a pass and finishing would still be lethal in this Chelsea side.

All good points. Personally I'm sticking with the popular captains choice. In the past I've tried something different at the beginning of the season and spent the rest of the season doing 'catch-up'.
Look for differentials later in the season.

I think Rooney is a safe bet. We know what he can do and he is certainly capable of getting double digit scores. If United get back to playing as they were in pre-season there could be plenty of goals in this one too.

I felt that before the season started but he scored a few in pre season and is 1 from 1 so certainly warrants a starting birth in our teams. For this week I can't see the alternatives, haz / fab are no more likely to do well IMO. Rooney good away record but Sunderland away tough fixture. Don't think siggy quite deserves big hitter status for captaincy and spurs assets all a little risky as well

Yar if I have to rank Ryan's choices for armband it is still Costa, Rooney, Siggy for me.

I have Fab and think he gets points, but not putting the armband on him till he shows he is back to his scoring form.

Siggy would certainly be a big captaincy punt but Burnley were terrible against Chelsea and I don't think Swansea would let the foot off the pedal if they found themselves in a similar situation at half time.

Yeah when comparing team vs fixture that Chelsea game definitely looks attractive. However Sunderland away for Rooney and Burnley at home for Siggurdson are good fixtures too. Its not as clear cut as it seems I don't think.

I read somewhere, that both Rooney and Siggy's records are better away from home.

Rooney could come good but Sunderland's defence is way better than Burnley or Leicester.

Siggy playing at home - my worry is the swans may choose to play Bony and Gomis up front and push Siggy to the wings. Unlikely after siggy's performance against Man Utd but the risk is there.

Yeah thats a good point going against the Siggurdson option. I still think Rooney can be a beast away to Sunderland though. United and Rooney do tend to be better away and I wouldn't be too quick to praise the Sunderland defence, its ok but certainly not solid.

Ultimately, Chelsea scoring less than 2 would be a surprise. United or Swansea drawing blanks is conceivable. I can easily see 0-1 at Swansea. So you have to play the fixtures on the captaincy choice in my opinion. Matic (c).

Chelsea could have beaten Burnly by 6 if they tried. I was shocked to seem them shut up shop at half time and not bother going for the kill. The same thing could occur against Leicester.

I wouldn't say it is inevitable that Mata will drop before Saturday. He only lost 7.6% yesterday and is still about 24% short of a drop. Yes, transfers will pick up again as the deadline approaches but there's an increased tendency later in the week to look at the next fixture as well as last week's score. And Sunderland away is quite a nice fixture on paper...

I'm not saying he won't drop, just that I don't think it is inevitable.
