After examining the beneficiaries of the forthcoming fixture schedule in yesterday’s article, today it’s the turn of the less fortunate sides. A number of last season’s high flyers have testing schedules over the next four to six Gameweeks that could counsel caution over their Fantasy assets.

Man City

“involvement

The champions hammered all comers at the Etihad last season and will be hoping to maintain that form as a couple of title rivals pay visit. With a dressing room full of world-class talent, Manuel Pellegrini’s outfit could well emerge from their upcoming fixture list with a barrel-full of goals and a pocket-full of clean sheets. But history says caution may still be required when faced with (LIV, ars, CHE) in the next four: of those same three fixtures last season, City won one, drew one and lost one, scoring just four goals and conceding in each game.

Anyone eyeing up David Silva after his goal against Newcastle may want to hold fire until easier fodder heaves into view, and a gamble on Sergio Aguero’s nascent fitness seems similarly risky. Likewise, with so much potential for rotation in defence, looking elsewhere may well be the safest option, at least for the time being. Gameweek 6, however, is a different story. A glorious period of fixtures will prove extremely tempting for Fantasy managers and many will doubtless be trying to figure out how to squeeze two or even three pricey Citizens into their squads.

Leicester

“involvement

A well-earned point against Everton signalled a bright start for Nigel Pearson’s side but there are tougher tests to come: the Foxes prepare to face Chelsea, Arsenal and Man United in the next four Gameweeks. Liam Moore got the nod to provide Fantasy managers with a precious 4.0 budget starter in defence, but few owners will be keen to start him over this schedule. Chris Wood came off the bench to grab a goal but is unlikely to tempt much investment, though Leonardo Ulloa was on a few radars following a successful campaign with Brighton. These fixtures suggest monitoring the Argentine and his strike partner, David Nugent, before investing, however. The Foxes’ schedule does clear markedly from Gameweek 7, an ideal time to invest if any of their players manage to impress in the interim period.

Aston Villa

“involvement

Touted for relegation by no fewer than nine of the scouts in our season’s predictions, Paul Lambert steered the Villains to a narrow victory over Stoke. The next two fixtures – home ties with Newcastle and Hull – look winnable too. Following that the Midlands club will need to batten down the hatches as they face a hurricane of title-chasing opponents in the shape of Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and City. Of course, after last season’s disappointments, few Villa players are gracing Fantasy Watchlists, let alone our squads, but the 4.0-priced Alan Hutton’s clean sheet in the opening Gameweek has caught the eye of some. Anyone holding him can make hay while the sun shines on the next two fixtures but clean sheets look improbable in the subsequent five.

BE WARY OF

Everton
Their winless record in pre-season was carried over into the opener as the Toffees struggled to close out a valiant Leicester. Such insipid form does not bode well considering the step up in quality of their upcoming opponents – encounters against Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man United in the next six Gameweeks suggest that Roberto Martinez will have his work cut out to ensure a favourable start to the league season, particularly with Europa league commitments to fulfil.

Last season’s hugely successful campaign has had the inevitable effect on the prices of the Everton defence, with even youngster John Stones being elevated to the upper mid-price bracket. With such hard-hitting adversaries on the agenda, investment looks too pricy for most. Aidan McGeady and Steven Naismith, on the other hand, seem very kindly priced and may be ready to step up this season, particularly with the expected long-term injury to Ross Barkley. However, even their most ardent suitors would surely admit that they’re likely to struggle for points in the short term. It looks wise to use the forthcoming fixtures to weigh up their likely pitch time before committing.

West Ham
A match of two cards eventually resulted in a loss for Sam Allardyce as his side were finally undone in stoppage time by Spurs. Traditionally, the Hammers’ appeal to Fantasy managers is limited to their hardy and well priced defence but Allardyce’s forays into the transfer market have so far suggested an increased focus on attacking prowess. Enner Valencia, Mauro Zarate, and Diafra Sakho are all hoping to announce themselves in the Premier League – the former catching some Fantasy eyes after a decent showing at the World Cup. But with a middling set of fixtures over the next six Gameweeks, including Liverpool and Man United and – crucially – only one truly tempting home game (QPR), points potential at either end of the pitch looks limited. Again, Fantasy managers are advised to use these fixtures for reconnaissance before the weather turns clement for the Hammers around Gameweek 7.

Liverpool
The win over Southampton was hardly convincing, as Liverpool attempt to come to terms with life without Luis Suarez. They may need to get up to speed more quickly if they are to start the season with much needed momentum, which won’t be helped by their next two fixtures against Man City and Tottenham. Investment in double-digit scorer Raheem Sterling has been strong this week but he will tested against those opponents, as will Daniel Sturridge. Brendan Rodgers’ defence picked up where it left off last season – conceding – and as such look unlikely to shut out City and Spurs, meaning the heavily backed Dejan Lovren may need to rely on his goal-scoring prowess to atone for a lack of clean sheets. However, the skies clear markedly from Gameweek 4 as the Reds embark upon a far stronger schedule.

I know the term 'coverage' is frowned upon on here but long term if i wanted involvement in the 'big' teams im thinking along these lines

    Haz/Fab + Ramsey + Sterling
    RVP + Aguero

Obvious worries being Costa and Sturridge.Nothing really to say just so bored at work!

Thanks, Spurs always seem to flatter to deceive. Maybe its because i am a bit older and have seen them offer promise nd potential for so many years but deliver relatively little.
Eriksson and Lamella have exactly that potential, if they had a decent striker it would raise the appeal of those 2.
Who was Spurs last 'decent' striker? Klinnsman, Sherrigham? Does Keane count? Sure i am missing someone

I'm really surprised they haven't put in a bid for Bony. I'm guessing Swansea can play hardball with them though as Spurs aren't a champions league club.

What I think is perhaps frowned upon is coverage for coverage sake. Like just brininging in any top 5 team player because they play for a top 5 team. Your selections here are obviously not in that category.

Understand. I would personally feel happy with a set up like-

        Haz/Fab + Ramsey + Sterling
        RVP + Aguero

If form and fixtures hit in a positive way for Rooney/Costa/Sturridge etc you have flexibility to move easily.
Same applies to injuries/ poor form to the set up, can easy shirt to the forwards just mentioned above/ Sanchez/Silva/Giroud

Not planning on it yet obviously, as i said before real bored at work and just thinking!

I'm one of the few who think that RVP returning will not help Mata but diminish his appeal.RVP might take away some of his set pieces as well. I think Roo and RVP will run the show

I'm fine with it, more so for you. I could get trolled by the Troll. 😯

Bummer that the thresholds look to have been enlarged so the wagon won't rise as quickly. But I still think it's a solid move long term. And especially before Saturday against Leicester.

And yet Sterling still haunts me. 🙁

What move did you make? Just saw you talking up Naismith a couple of pages ago too 😯

I'm still fairly convinced that Fab will rise by 0.1 more and Mata will fall by 0.2 more till Sunday morning, resulting in a swing of +0.4 at this stage.. And if Fab gets 5 or more points against Leicester coupled with a Mata failure on Sunday, then it could be one way traffic lol

Same here...But I think I'll bring him in for Rambo in gameweek 4...Ramsey plays City,Spurs and Chelsea in the four games after gameweek 3..Best part is that Sterling's fixtures would have eased out as well(although I still believe he could do well against City/Spurs)

Yaya>Fab. And wasn't talking up Naismith. A few others had mentioned him and thought it odd as I don't see him playing consistently.

Yeah, I agree on the money side of it. And truth be told Yaya looked so uninterested Sunday it's not him I'm worried about. But in the end Sterling should be an easy add later on. Just hope he doesn't go mental against City on the break which was my gut feeling.

    GW2 Team:

    Bego
    Terry - Clyne - Naylor
    Ramsey - Sterling - Fab - Siggy
    Rooney - Costa(c) - Jovetic

    Bench: 4.0 - Chambers - Bruce - Marney

    0.5m in bank.

Already used FT for Mata -> Fab. Now am contemplating a hit to do Jovetic -> Bony/Dzeko. Worth the hit? Or will Jovetic survive one more week somehow?

I'm another Jovetic owner and I'm giving him another week. There's no way Kun will play the 90 so Jovetic is almost certain to play some part, and even if it's as an impact sub against a tiring Liverpool defence he could pop up with a goal.

Seeing a lot of Aguero love in the DZ today, let me re-iterate some points I made yesterday as well:

*Pellegrini will not throw him in for 90 minutes straight away (not before gameweek 4 I would think)
*He's made of glass, can get injured if not eased in
*Sure the fixture against Stoke is a tempting one, but after that City face Arsenal(A),Chelsea(H) in the next two..
*When Aguero will be sticking it out against Arsenal and Chelsea, Studge will face Villa and West Ham...Costa also plays Swansea at home in gameweek 4

Food for thought...Don't pre-plan to bring him in just yet

      1. he doesn't need 90 mins just to grab points.
      2. Injury prone but can get you a goal/assist before he leaves the pitch.
      3. Arsenal: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1888783-analysing-sergio-agueros-performance-vs-arsenal and I think same could be told against Chelsea at HOME.

I think you should consider that
        a) City scored once against Arsenal at the emirates last season
        b) City failed to score against Chelsea at the Etihad last season

Hence the chances of Aguero getting points against these two teams are significanty low then say Sturridge against Villa or Costa against Swansea

That's why he's a punt, though I suspect you're wrong about Willian playing more. I prefer to go only with nailed-on players unless the price is just ridiculous, but if you want a punt, Schurrle seems good.

    Jovetic young chambers naughton etc

Now ppl have to sell them just after 1 week or risk price drop/sub appearance

Bruce said whoever didn't play in gw1 would play mid week so I think Chester will be rested. Obviously some will play 2 games but I think he's more focussed on premier league.

This is all only if Diouf doesn't get a haul against Hull, which he may well do...

Diouf>Dzeko leaves me .5 ITB and gives me...

          Studge Roon Dzeko

If Kun makes himself undroppable at any point Studge>Kun

If not once Negredo is back Dzeko>Lukaku

          Quite like it.

I'll be getting sterling in for mata if he doesnt perform pretty quickly. If he does it's a big ask to drop Cesc, but Liverpools fixtures look tasty enough GW4 onwards

I'm confused as to why everyone is so excited about Fab. He has one masterful assist, one set piece assist, one other chance created, and no shots. He's playing deep and Mourninho has confirmed that this will be his primary position. I have a hard time seeing him score goals like Ramsey or Toure, and it doesn't seem like central midfield distributors normally do well in FPL.

I'm hoping he'll go to the Lampard role against tough opposition. Would make him fixture proof.

I got Cesc in for GW1 and 2 with a look to switch from there. He does look good though. It might be hard to take him out.

Same here. If he doesn't get points this week, in which case I'll have to keep him for the price rise, he's on my list of players to get rid of. I got him in for the fixtures, and I need to seem an attempt or two to make me reconsider.

My plan was pre-season to do Mata > Sterling after United play the promoted teams consecutively, but if Mata gets 2/3's over the next 2 fixtures, I may have to do it early.
