Our Monday afternoon regular is rolled out once again, as we scour the Premier League treatment rooms to assess the players who picked up injuries over the weekend action.

Injuries

Arsenal
Olivier Giroud picked up an ankle problem towards the end of Saturday’s draw at Everton. Post-match, Arsene Wenger was a little pessimistic with his initial prognosis:

“It’s a stretched ankle. At the moment it doesn’t look too good.”

Reports today suggest that, although Giroud told the French media he hoped to be fit for the midweek Champions League clash with Besiktas, Arsenal have some concerns over his availability.

Aston Villa
Aly Cissokho was subbed off towards the end of Saturday lunchtime’s goalless draw due to injury, the club’s official website has confirmed.

Chelsea
Withdrawn just after the hour mark of the weekend home win over Leicester, Andre Schurrle took to twitter to proclaim:

“Hope my leg is getting better the next days.”

Crystal Palace
Joe Ledley was a late withdrawal from the side that lost to West Ham on Saturday after picking up a groin problem during the warm-up.

Everton
Steven Pienaar was forced off due to his groin early on in the Toffees’ home draw with Arsenal. Post-match, Roberto Martinez revealed Romelu Lukaku had been hampered by a toe problem during the match:

“Romelu has been struggling with a knock on his toe and he did incredibly well to be available today. The fans need to know and it is an example of our football Club that he did everything to be available for the game to help the players. To last over 70 minutes was an incredible gesture and he was terrific for Naismith’s goal – I couldn’t be prouder of his attitude and the way he represented our Club today.”

Leicester
Midfielder Dean Hammond was withdrawn during the loss at Chelsea with leg cramp, Nigel Pearson has confirmed.

Manchester United
Louis van Gaal’s injury worries at the back show little sign of abating. Chris Smalling became the latest defender to make his way onto the treatment table after limping out of the 1-1 draw at Sunderland due to a groin problem.

QPR
Charlie Austin missed Sunday’s hammering at White Hart Lane due to a hamstring injury.

Stoke
Glenn Whelan was forced off during yesterday’s draw at Hull due to an ankle problem, allowing Bojan Krkic to take his place off the bench.

Sunderland
The Black Cats wide man Adam Johnson missed yesterday’s home encounter with United due to illness.

West Brom
New left-back Sebastien Pocognoli and Victor Anichebe were both replaced in the weekend draw at Southampton after picking up injuries, confirm the club’s official website.

West Ham
Kevin Nolan missed the trip to Palace due to a shoulder injury, according to the Hammers’ twitter feed. Sam Allardyce has since conceded:

“It could be six weeks and it’s a massive blow to him and us. We’ve got five out. Those missing play a big part in our squad and our team.”

Suspensions

Hull’s James Chester disappointed the 128,000 FPL managers who drafted him in last week with a red card and a haul of minus two points at home to Stoke. The centre-half sits out the weekend trip to Villa but will be available for the Gameweek 4 home encounter against West Ham.

Use two free transfers for Aguero and Ward Prowse for Giroud and Mata?

    Or

Just use one transfer to transfer out Giroud for either Dzeko or Adebayor?

    Rooney Costa

    Hi all!

Imagine I'm you're rival and we're neck and neck. Imagine I took an 8 point hit this week.

Would this team for GW 3 worry you?

    Krul

    Clyne, Debuchy, PVA

    Mata, Ramsey, Sterling (VC), Cabella

    RVP (C), Rooney, Bojan

    Bench: Foster, Chester, Marney, Duff

Please tale into account fixtures for GW 3. Any suggestions?

Unproven in FPL... Siggy is a much better choice, cheaper and rising in value

Michu was unproven tbf when he first came to PL.

Siggy is great but his fixtures in GW 4 & 5 are taking a turn for the worse, will bring him in as soon as they are nicer (even if he costs £6.5m+).

Yes but people brought Michu in AFTER he scored goals... what has Cabella done thus far to suggest he will score well? Bad choice in my opinion at this stage but it's up to you

I had Michu from GW 1. I think I also had Siggy from the moment he joined the PL.

I really can't describe what I see in Cabella but it's the exact same feeling when I wanted to bring Gervinho in 2 or 3 seasons ago but couldn't as my transfer was used - I was also heavily advised against it on this site as he hadn't won any points on FPL in the previous few weeks, although I believed he got into the right places etc. He went on to be MVP against Chelsea and did really well in FPL for that bit of time - would have been a game changer differential if I had him.

I just feel Cabella has settled enough in his first 2 games and is ready to smash the next few games (it will also help that De Jong is in the team too).

I would look to lose Bojan as well... couldn't understand why everyone was buying him in the first place. You ideally want 3 proven, decent hitting front men and Bojan isn't one of those.

            1. Brutus619
              • 14 Years
              11 years, 3 months ago

Agree Bojan is worrying. But I learnt my lesson on being patient with players (from last season). I want to see Bojan play QPR & Leicester in GW 4 & 5 as I think there's a real possibility of him getting 2 or 3 goals in those games.

The transfers are Fabregas, Eriksen and Costa to Sterling, Cabella, and RVP.

I really think the new lads can get at least 8 points more than the old lads this week.

I've not made the moves yet though.

Eriksen is the only one worth keeping imo.

Fabregas has been great. But I REALLY don't fancy him vs Everton, City, Arsenal, (United) & Liverpool in the next 9 fixtures.

Fabregas will hold his own. Chelsea will score in those games and there's every chance him and Costa will be involved.

If you really want to sell them, ok. But I would rather go with Siggy over Cabella for sure.

Hmm I guess Fabregas could go on doing well. I just think Sterling is going to continue being deadly and that Liverpool will once again dismantle Spurs.

I see the transfers like this:

                Eriksen to Cabella

                Fab to Sterling

                Costa to RVP

RVP could be a huge differential captain for the next 3 weeks - especially now that Di Maria will be involved.

Looking at the stats, Eriksen has been unlucky not to be involved in the goals. He also struck a perfect free-kick that rattled the bar. If only that had gone in, I doubt anyone would be considering removing him.

Lescott is a greater FPL Legend than Baines imo. His 07/08 season was off the charts. Only Ivan has the potential to do something similar in the PL at the moment.

😀 I think all his goals that year were penalties.
Not sure any defender has ever cleared 200 points, Lescott getting to 196 must be the closest

    Aguero // Costa // Rooney

    Elliot // Albrighton // Dummett // Wisdom

Not for me. If you're playing wild card this early you can't expose yourself to further risk and your defence is made of tin foil. Have you seen villas run coming up? I don't think aguero is ready to be brought in at that expense. Wait for tonight obviously, but I'd prefer dzeko and a full 3.5m extra to upgrade the defence or even albrighton to Eriksen or lamella

What's the higher priority, Bego to Krul to avoid Stokes MCI away game next week and free up funds or swap Caulker before price drop?
