With Wildcards in play we’ve updated our Watchlist rankings ahead of Saturday’s deadline to offer a view on our mid-term player recommendations. As always, you can locate the full rankings by position in your right-hand menu.

The big movers can be found at the back, with the fixture schedule swinging wildly in favour of a number of teams, promoting their defensive assets. The likes of Liverpool, Stoke and Southampton all face a run of opponents which look set to offer ample opportunity to add to their clean sheet quota.

While Villa’s Brad Guzan has been the most popular keeper pick going into Gameweek 4, his evil schedule of fixtures suggests that Paul Lambert’s defence will struggle to maintain their early-season form. For our money, you’ll need to spend more over the next six Gameweeks to secure a stopper likely to bring in points – namely Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet, Stoke’s Asmir Begovic or Southampton’s Fraser Forster. Vito Manonne could offer value with an improved array of fixtures to come, while QPR’s Alex McCarthy is undboutedly one to watch given his 4.0 Fantasy Premier League price tag and propensity to pick up save points: he could be the only active first choice stopper in the 4.0 bracket if he debuts at Old Trafford.

While Branislav Ivanovic rightly remains rooted at top spot in our defender rankings, Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren and Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne edge him close. In both cases, there are clear alternatives: Alberto Moreno and Ryan Bertrand are available in the same price bracket and should certainly be considered.

Elsewhere, we see the next six Gameweeks as the perfect window to take a chance on the attacking talents of Burnley’s Kieran Trippier. With 12 assists in Burnley’s promotion sesason, we’re expecting a spell where he emerges as a genuine option for our backlines and, given the Clarets run of fixtures, we could be set to flourish.

In midfield, Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling makes the climb to the summit with strong fixtures and form ensuring that he creeps ever closer to “essential” status. Aaron Ramsey’s knock in last night’s international seems him suffer a slight dent, although the latest noises suggest he’ll line up against City at the weekend.

Elsewhere, Southampton’s Dusan Tadic continues his ascent as he goes on recording statistics that suggest that consistent returns could be around the corner. He certainly has the fixtures to thrive.

There’s an array of lower priced talent to be considered, with Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha ousting Jason Puncheon as our weapon of choice at Selhurst Park. Tottenham’s Nacer Chadli, Sunderland’s Seb Larsson and Burnley’s George Boyd complete a cast that offer clear differentials as fourth and fifth midfield options.

There’s a degree of uncertainty up front, with the likes of Diego Costa and Daniel Sturridge nursing injuries. The latter drops out of our reckoning to be replaced by the cheaper and more “secure” Mario Balotelli, while our confidence in Costa is strong enough to see him maintained at the top of the rankings: we’ve already seen him recover from one “hamstring injury” to devastating effect.

There’s no place as yet for United’s Radamel Falcao, with Wayne Rooney still preferred as our Old Trafford striker – that situation will undoubtedly be questioned following Falcao’s debut, when we’ll have more clues on Louis van Gaal’s preferred set-up.

Arsenal’s new capture Danny Welbeck and Southampton’s target man, Graziano Pelle, share a price bracket and an ability to add effective differentials to our squads: we’re tipping both for strong returns in the next four to six Gameweeks. Indeed, with Steven Naismith, Mame Diouf and Leonardo Ulloa all making effective starts to the campaign and staking claims for our consideration over the next month, it’s clear that a big spend in attack is currently not a necessity.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Well now I'm really confused, I was leaning towards Moore, because Stoke - Leicester has the potential to be one of those boring 0-0s 😀

      play siggy against chelsea
im saying this even though im a chelsea fan.. dont bench him

captain ; ehtier sterling or costa.. id have said costa but with his injury concern and tough swansea fixture, sterling looks the better option

I'd definitely play Siggy out of those three.

Captain-wise I'd go against the grain and play Rooney. United are an unknown quantity blah blah but Swansea have only conceded one goal so farand QPR have defended woefully.

    Cahill Blackett Chambers
    Fab Ramsey Siggy Sterling Sliva
    Rooney Costa

    Myhill Naismith Wisdom Hutton

So love my front 8 but defence in chaos.
    Blackett - Likely dropped
    Chambers- Likely dropped
    Wisdom - Likely dropped
    Hutton - terrible fixtures

just downgrade ramsey to a cheap priced midfielder and upgrade your defence

I have the same problem! Gona stick with Hutton at 4.1 untill fixtures improve.
Chambers > pieters?? It will be annoying if someone gets injured and chambers plays!

      Wisdom Blackett Cahill

Ride this gw out with them 3 at the back and assess it then. Maybe a few will surprise you!

Currently on WildCard, really considering doing Ramsey > Silva, is that stupid? Feel that not only is he kinda injured, has tough fixtures and by the time the fixtures clear up, Walcott will be back and he could get a role slightly more defensive.

Not all that stupid. Depend on who you back to rack up more points.

Silva is fit and has been playing relatively well. Also played well for Spain in the past week.

You could hold and if he plays then great, if not then ship him to Silva next week.

Away to Arsenal for Silva is not an easy ask.

7/10 - play Siggy ahead of king.

Welbeck may need time to settle (?) (2 goals for England does provide confidence though). I'm always for playing strikers over midfield.

Tough call but maybe Clyne over Coleman?

    Suggestions Welcome, On a WC...

    Bego (Murphy)
    Shawcross Ivanofish Lovren (Clyne Trippier)
Zaha Di Maria Fabregas Sterling Siggy
    Rooney Welbeck (Jutz)

Maybe swap out 1 of MUFC to avoid the double up? Zaha & Siggy too weak?

siggy never too weak.. even against chelsea. chelsea arent holding cleansheets. not as defensive as last season. theres every chance for swansea to score. and if they score, siggy will have a major role in it

Can someone give me some feedback on my team, ive used my WC so have room for change

Courtois/Lloris - gna start Lloris and switch in Courtois in 3 weeks time when Chelsea v AV

    Dier/Taylor/Janmaat/Shawcross/Duff

    Ramsey/Siggurdsson/Sterling/Fabregas/Dyer

    Costa/Naismith/Ulloa

    £3.4 in the bank

Courtois/Lloris together is way to much money spent on GK IMO. Downgrade one of them and use the money to upgrade Ulloa or Naismith. If you are going with either Courtois or Lloris you just want a 4.0 2nd GK.

Hey, I've been wondering this since the start of the international break:

I have Fonte on the defence but I have Ivanovic, Kompany, Cahill and Jagielka too. Then I have Dzeko, Pellé and Riviére on the offence. Question remains, is it worth putting Fonte on the defence instead of Jagielka and taking Riviére off the offence or putting the whole attacking trio in and putting Jagielka in instead of Fonte for the upcoming GW.

    Please help!

Personally I have faith in Everton this weekend! They are certainly due a win and a clean sheet and I think given they play West Brom this May be the week that they kick start their campaign! Stick with jagielka!

Im a fantasy football newbie! One of my teams has had a pretty decent start to the season and I am particularly keen to make sure that doesn't slide! I have replaced sturridge with falcao due to injury but I wondered if you pros could take a look at my team and offer any thoughts or advice? I will put who they are playing in initials too....

    GK- De Gea (QPR)
    DEF- Ivanovic (SWA)
    DEF- Baines (WBA)
    DEF- Fonte (NEW)
    MID- Adam Johnson (TOT)
    MID- Schneiderlin (NEW)
    MID- Ramsey (MCY)
    MID- Lamela (SUN)
    MID- Cabella (SOU)
    STR- Costa (SWA)
    STR- Falcao (QPR)

    THANK YOU!

I'm using my wildcard this week as 5 of my players are injured, but not sure if the balance is right. Can you please RMT?

    DeGea ( / Krul)
    Moreno / Terry / Janmaat ( / Monreal / McShane)
    Fabregas / Di Maria / Henderson / Sterling ( / Siggy)
    Costa / Welbeck / Naismith

Or should I start Siggy instead of Henderson? Chelsea will be much tougher to score on than Aston Villa.

Still £1.8mil in the bank so I could make some more changes.

    Thanks.

    Krul or McCarthy

Pieters / Clyne / Van Aanholt

Siggy / Fabregas / Di Maria / Sterling

    Costa / Balotelli / Rooney

I've spent the last 2 hours tweaking this using my wildcard and am finally sort of satisfied. I'm going to wait and see how this weekend goes but the plan is to ship out Balo and Rooney for Welbeck and Falcao.

Any comments or suggestions? I got rid of Rambo to get in Di Maria. That's the only decision I'm not 100% happy with

Any hints tips on my changes I am really thinking of using wildcard this round?

    Trades:

    Krul - for Myhill
Reason: Easy Myhill is not playing NC has a decent setup the next games (first goalkeeper is Howard)

    Duff - for Bruce
reason: Bruce is not playing and Duff has gotten allot of playtime. Burnley also has a decent fixtures next

Shawcross - for Debuchy - Arsenal has a heavy setup and Arsenals defence has not impressed me. Shawcross always Picks points and Stoke has a good fixture next matches

Dyer - for Young - ill probably bench Dyer in the first match and play him in the remaining, Young injured and has not impressed me. At the same time I dont see how he will get playtime now.

Schurrle - Di Maria - Using saves on the rest of the team I can fit in Di Maria....

I am really unsure about Rooney at the same time as I would like to put in Falcao for Rooney....

As a captain I am going to do Sterling or Costa as C.....not sure

Does anyone of any thoughts of my team and on the question of Rooney out and doing another adjusment to get in Falcao since I will be a little short?
