With the international hiatus almost over, we thought we’d take the opportunity to revisit PlayON to remind you of the new methods of play that the game has recently introduced, ahead of tomorrow’s player picks.

PlayON’s new mechanics are very different to anything we’ve seen in Fantasy Football games to this point but the potential of the strategy involved is promising to say the least.

Daily Games

Last weekend we saw PlayON provide the first set of daily games, allowing us to pick lineups and enter teams for multiplayer games across Saturday and Sunday’s fixtures, in addition to the weekend as a whole.

Selections for daily games are made by first using the dropdown in the left-hand corner of your PlayON dashboard, which shows the current Gameweek by default: this allows you to select either Saturday, Sunday or Monday daily games

You can enter up to three teams for each game – so, effectively, over a Saturday/Sunday weekend programme, you can have nine teams active and can still be picking new teams on Saturday and Sunday.

In-Play Tournaments

Whilst Fantasy managers are well versed with dealing with deadlines, PlayON have broadened their offering to provide In-Play games, which allow us to go on competing for prizes even after kick-off.

PlayON’s team selection deadline is still two hours before the first kick-off of the day or Gameweek. However, once this is passed, you can now jump into In-Play games for one-on-ones and limited entry multiplayer match-ups (3, 4, 5, 10 or 20 player games). You can also opt out of any In-Play game before it fills up using the “unjoin” function.

Adopting Teams

While you may want to meticulously tinker with an array of lineups, PlayON also introduces a new dimension to competing in In-Play games, enabling you to use a lineup created by another user.

This can give you a quick and simple method of joining new games. PlayON even gives you the facility to search for teams which include a particular player or set of players, so, if Wayne Rooney has scored a brace and you want to take his points into an In-Play game, you can search and find a team which includes him and adopt that.

There are layers of strategy to this. In-Play teams can include players who have already played and earned points but, of course, you may wish to gamble on a lineup that includes more players who are yet to play rather than get points in the bank. To see all of this in action, just click into the “Use Other People’s Teams” button on the Matchday page once the team picking deadline passes.

Earning Income From Your Teams

When you adopt another user’s PlayON lineup for In-Play games, they will earn a commission should you win. The flipside of this is that you can earn money from your PlayON lineups if they are adopted by other users. So, if you create three PlayON lineups each week and your selections score well, you could earn an income from your teams without entering any games and with no outlay.

You might, for example, select a team with Danny Welbeck up front ahead of Saturday’s early kick-off with Man City. Should Welbeck score a goal, there will likely be a clamour for PlayON teams that include him in order to bank his points for In-Play games.

Your team with Welbeck will be available to others to see and use and you can set the level of commission you want from other users to use your team. You can also adjust this in real time so after Welbeck scores, you may want to increase it a few percentage points. If others are successful with your team, you will earn that percentage of their winnings.

You can set commission levels from 2% right up to 20% but, of course, the lower the commission level, the more likely your team will be an attractive option for others.

Look out for our PlayON picks tomorrow lunchtime ahead of another round of PlayON games. This weekend there’s a guaranteed £1,000 pot up for grabs in the full gameweek, plus a guaranteed £500 for Saturday’s daily game and a guaranteed £250 pot for the Sunday and Monday daily games. Check them all out at www.playon.co

Clearly your article planted the idea 😀 He's always been an FPL hero of mine, but I do fear he may be outmatched.

However, in this team I actually can't afford Coleman. I've had a look at the stats in more detail and I feel better about Baines now.

It's very similar to mine. Benching sig?

I like it overall, but definitely think it's worth downgrading one of the 4.5s to fund Ivanovic over Cahill.

    For anyone who will know.....

When Drogba was at his peak for Chelsea, was he captain material for every week (like Suarez last year)

I'm asking, because I've just read a good article on the importance of Costa to Chelsea (& comparing him to Drogba at his peak)

Now taking into account his injuries & the knowledge we will gain in advance on whatever injury he would get is Costa a 'must' captain every week?

    1. Snevitz
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member
      • 16 Years
      11 years, 3 months ago

I was going to rotate captaincy between him and Sturridge depending upon fixtures.
I think Sterling is good enough to do the same whilst Sturridge is injured.

    2. Bootsy: Snoddy's Reven…
      • 14 Years

Drogba wasn't a captain every week guy as far as I remember, maybe he had a lot of competition at the time.

Can only remember Henry, Ronaldo, Rvp, Suarez being captain every week guys.

Costa is not yet at that level but the hamstring means you cannot captain at all

Cheers, although technically so far (albeit 3 GWs) for me personally, I should've captained him every week

Credit goes to Camzy who wrote and posted this on FFS just a year ago to help the new joiners of FPL. It's helped me and I'm certain it will help you. Since we're still in the early stages of the season, I thought I might re-post this on Camzy's behalf.

    Camzy:
I started writing this post a couple hours ago then got sidetracked by work. Yeah, work is a distraction 😀 But anyhow, here it is.

What works in FPL from experience (some which might not be applicable this season):
    - Getting at least 3 DGWers each DGW
    - Picking cheap rotating goalies
    - Picking 4.0 bench fodder from promoted clubs
    - Having 3 bona fide captains (RVP, Bale, Suarez)
    - Doubling in defense on good fixtures
    - Doubling in attack on high potential players (Bale + Van der Vaart)
    - Playing 3-4-3
    - Splashing the cash on the front 8
    - Choosing team talismans over 2nd best players from better teams (i.e. Snodgrass over Ramsey/Wilshere)
    - Taking early hits/getting on bandwagons at the start of the season (broad, but even if they don't perform, they raise team value)
    - Playing wildcard early (again, situational, but I've found it works. Last year, the winner used his GW 2)
    - Captaining one of the top 3 picks from the weekly captain poll (RvP if undecided)
    - Using TotalFPL or Fiso to keep track of price changes

What doesn't work in FPL (again, some may not be applicable this season)
    - Playing 4 defenders regularly
    - Having expensive goalies
    - Having non-playing cheap players (Ferguson springs to mind - they lose value and are deadweight)
    - Staying with off-form players because their fixtures get better
    - Making transfers early in the week (injuries do happen and muck things up)
    - Waiting until the very last minute to make transfers (do them Friday night)
    - Choosing players based on popularity (not really a problem on here)
    - Planning transfers more than 3 weeks in advance (almost never pans out, not really a case of it not working, but it's wasted effort)
    - Making starting probability/fitness a decisive factor over points potential(I remember the first year I played seriously, I captained Drogba first week even though he was "an injury risk" and he hit a hat-trick. Last year, I got hurt by it. I picked Cole over Ivanovic because he was more nailed on. Ended up 12 points worse off after just 1 week)
    - Picking players for coverage (sometimes you've got to avoid that burst of nice fixtures from Everton because they are just in terrible form)
    - Picking differentials because you need to make up ground (this is controversial, but I firmly believe that unless there are less than 3 weeks to go, you can make up any number of points with smart, logical transfers and some luck with the captains armband. If you need a differential, use the armband not your players)

    A) -4 and get bertrand for bruce

    B) -8 get bertrand + rojo (leave for long run and hope at least one of them keeps a clean sheet to justify the -8 hit ) for jones and bruce

+2 and +1.5 allows both to lose by one though and nothing more why the odds difference?

Further to this, depending on the bet, if +2 results in a draw you will get half your stake back. Check the T&C for confirmation this is the case with what you're looking at.

+2 on normal handicap ending in a draw means you lose.

+2 .. money refund if your team wins by 2.. You win the bet if they win by 2+
+1.5.. You win the bet if they win by 1+

Just checking to see if I'm good to go for this week.

    Courtois
    Clyne Colo Moore
    Hazard Ramsey Mata Sterling(c) Siggy
    Aguero Adebayor

Subs: Gilks, Vaz Te, PVA, Wisdom.

    A few questions for you:

    Captain Hazard or Sterling?
    Moore or PVA?
    Correct sub order?

Is Ramsey really just a "flat-track bully"?

    His goals last season:

    Sunderland x 2
    Stoke
    Swansea
    Norwich x 2
    Liverpool
    Cardiff x 2
    Hull

Average position of teams scored against = 14th

Too soon to tell really. He has scored against both City and Everton this season though.

I think it's more that Arsenal struggled more against the big teams last season. If they do score goals in any given match, though, Ramsey has a very good chance of being involved.

He has to do more defensive work when the big teams come to town. Explains the diminished attacking output.

Isn't it just that it is Arsenal who are "flat-track bullies"?
They mopped up against the bottom half, especially good away record, but flopped against the top 6

He does have an amazing ppg record in the last season and a bit though - could maybe be worth it for Gerrard or ADM if you prefer fixtures to form.

Arsenal need Ramsey against City. With Rojo available for selection LVG may bench Jones initially.
