After a two-week hiatus, our Friday evening analysis of the armband options in the Gameweek ahead comes around again. Our three-part approach takes in the weekly poll standings, the Opta player statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the Captain conundrum.

The first section is free to view for all visitors to the site and will analyse the chief protagonists, as selected in our Captain Poll. The latter two parts are restricted to our members, as we delve deeper into the Opta and Rate My Team data.

Captain Poll

Unsurprisingly, Chelsea’s Diego Costa leads the way after notching four times in his first three appearances. The Spain international once again heads into the weekend with hamstring doubts hanging over his pitch time but, after recovering from a similar problem to bag a brace at Goodison in Gameweek 3, he has earned the nod from over 29% of Fantasy managers so far as Jose Mourinho’s side welcome Swansea to the Bridge.

Despite scoring just twice in their first three matches under Louis van Gaal, United are still heavily backed for their home encounter against QPR. Radamel Falcao and Wayne Rooney sit second and fourth respectively in the Captain Poll and the Colombian’s previous ability to settle quickly in his new surrounds have persuaded 15% to select him compared to Rooney’s 13%. Harry Redknapp’s side have shipped four goals in their only road trip to date but a switch from 3-5-3 to 4-4-1-1 earned the R’s their first clean sheet of the campaign last time around.

Liverpool’s attackers are also high in our collective estimations. Raheem Sterling is the favoured option from Brendan Rodgers’ side – after scoring in two of his first three appearances, the youngster has picked up over 13% of your votes for a plum home clash with Aston Villa. With Daniel Sturridge sidelined for the Merseysiders, Mario Balotelli could be a real differential for this one, bearing in mind he’s owned by less than 6% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers.

In spite of a testing clash with City at the Emirates, Arsenal new boy Danny Welbeck remains on the radar. A double for England against Switzerland has certainly had an impact – 3.55% of Fantasy managers fancy handing him the armband, more than either Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard for Chelsea’s encounter with Swansea.

Best way in to United attack - Rooney or Di Maria?

Best way in to Saints' attack - Pelle or Tadic?

Don't think that's a smart way to look at it to be perfectly honest. I'd more be asking myself - who's the best 3rd striker option? If Pelle happens to be the answer, then thats a way into Saints attack. Ditto with the others.

They played 2 of the worst attacks in the league in West Ham and QPR, then got slaughtered by 'Pool.

17 assists in 39 games last season is obviously good, but he was playing with Bale and Ronaldo, and Ozil had similar assist stats in his last season at Madrid, as well as more than double the amount of goals.

    Hi,

    Bumping this.

Need a good GK pairing that rotates well at least for the mid term.
Had Krul and Mannone, whom both disappoint thus far. Would rather avoid the Stoke and Swansea pairing as it is both not cheap and already have Wilson and Taylor.

    Cheers,
    David

Try McCarthy. He cost them £6m and chose them for 1st team football so I'd be surprised if he doesn't start soon.

I'm about to go mad and have a WC team with no costa: (Injury doubt, swans are a tough nut to crack, next week city, CL)

    Bego, McCarthy
    Moreno clyne naylor collo Moore
    Fabregas sterling siggy tadic mirallas
    Rooney baloteli adebayor

A have this team. No costa.

    B have costa for Rooney

C have costa for ade and downgrade mirallas to zaha

    Would you change anything? Transfers/Captain/subs??

    Krul
    Ivanovic - Clyne - Wilson
    ADM - Sterling(VC) - Fabregas - Tadic
    Balotelli - Costa (C) - Naismith

    McCarthy - Siggy - Hutton - Duff

    Thank you…

Looks good. Costa captain could be a risk but I think he'll play.

Duff before Hutton. Prob not needed off the bench though.
I'd be tempted to capt Balotelli.

Oh dear . Really not sure what to do, haven't paid attention all week

    Krul Mannone
    JONES Terry WISDOM CHAMBERS Baird
    Ramsey Mata Sterling Siggy Cattermole
    Costa Rooney JOVETIC
    1FT 0.3 ITB

With those in caps is it worth doing

A -4 to get rid of Jovetic and jones
B WC cos of weak subs

Thanks can't decide if Dzeko best option to maintain coverage or go the budget route to beef up MF.

Who to replace Jones with, for a max of 6.8? Moreno? Evans? So close to Baines, but can't do it.

      Moreno is the popular choice

What do you think of this WC team?

    Adrian, Mannone
    Moreno, Clyne, Janmaat, Bardsley, Hutton
    Sterling, Mirallas, Tadic, Siggy, Chadli
    Costa, Adebayor, Falcao/Rooney

Especially interested in some opinions about my midfield and Rooney or Falcao for the next 3 GWs?

Looks very good to me. Having Hutton will restrict you to only four good defensive options for the next few weeks but your first three are good enough to cope.

You and me both. I feel good about it after taking a hit in GW2 and GW3 🙂

Still, Rooney better come good or I'll regret not moving for Balotelli to save 0.2.
