With many a Wildcard in play, itโ€™s time to present you with our regular trio of left field options to tempt you off the beaten track. Our selection has value in mind, serving up a pair of Gameweek 3 scorers who look primed for back-to-back returns, plus a solid defensive option who looks to have cemented his start in a back four destined for further shut-outs.

KEVIN MIRALLAS

Whilst budget forward Steven Naismith remains Evertonโ€™s weapon of choice for Fantasy managers, Mirallasโ€™ ownership is hovering just under 5%, and the Belgianโ€™s underlying statistics suggest that he could be primed to emerge from his team-mateโ€™s shadow as the Toffees roll up to West Brom this afternoon.

Despite only managing a ten minute substitute appearance in Evertonโ€™s first fixture of the season, Mirallasโ€™ goal attempts outweigh Naismithโ€™s at 10 to 7, placing the Belgian second in the rankings for total shots by midfielders this season, with an average of just over 19 minutes separating each of the wingerโ€™s attempts from one another. This goal threat proved effective against Chelsea last time out, with Mirallas opening his account for the season with a deft header, though with a large share of set pieces in his locker as well, it may not only be in front of goal that the 7.4 priced midfielder rewards his owners.

Todayโ€™s opponents will hold little fear for Everton, with the Baggies having conceded five goals already this campaign, including three in their last match against Swansea, and with Crystal Palace visiting Goodison Park in Gameweek 5, Roberto Martinez looks set to go out on the offensive again for at least the next couple of fixtures: Mirallas is likely to be one of the main beneficiaries.

DWIGHT GAYLE

It took less than a minute for the young striker to find the back of the net in Crystal Palaceโ€™s 3-3 draw with Newcastle a couple of weeks ago, and though that remained his only shot of the game, thereโ€™s no denying the starletโ€™s effectiveness when given opportunities. The Gameweek 3 goal was Gayleโ€™s first league strike of the season in his first league start, though this was preceded by a first half hat-trick against Walsall in the Capital One Cup at the end of August.

A hamstring injury has ruled Marouane Chamakh out of Palaceโ€™s clash with Burnley this weekend, ensuring that Gayle should keep his place at the summit of Neil Warnockโ€™s attack despite being a doubt with an ankle problem earlier this week. Another goal scoring performance from the 5.4 priced frontman today could well cement his starting spot for weeks to come, and with Leicester and Hull on the Eaglesโ€™ agenda in their next four fixtures, Gayle is certainly worth considering for managers eyeing up options in the budget forward department.

PHIL BARDSLEY

After Geoff Cameron underwent surgery earlier this week, Bardsley now looks nailed-on for Stoke at right back for the near future. The Potters have only conceded two goals over their first three fixtures, and will be looking to carry through the momentum from their shock 1-0 victory against Man City two weeks ago when they welcome Leicester to the Brittania today.

Despite being available for 0.6 less than team-mate Ryan Shawcross, Bardsleyโ€™s ownership remains at just 0.6%, making the former Sunderland man the least owned regular starter in Stokeโ€™s backline.

Mark Hughesโ€™ men face three home matches in their next five (LEI, NEW, SWA), whilst trips to QPR โ€“ who have only scored once so far this season โ€“ and Sunderland wonโ€™t daunt them too much either; Bardsley will be optimistic of adding to last Gameweekโ€™s clean sheet and perhaps supplementing that with more attacking returns following his assist in Gameweek 2.

            Say it was in FPL

34 appearances say 60 appearance points.

            4 goals = 20 points

            17 assists = 51

With 6 YC's and say 20 bonus points (which is quite a lot)

151 points or 4.4 PPG which is equivalent of a 7M midfielder.

            Obviously a very rough estimate.

Of course it is, but it's not exactly inaccurate. Don't see how he is worth more than Ramsey, Fabregas, Sterling, even Silva...each to their own I guess! Hope he sets up whichever one of Falcao and Rooney I get ๐Ÿ™‚

It's not the PL though so you can't convert the stats, the Spanish league has a lot of whipping boys in for Madrid, United don't and anyone can beat anyone here.

He will have to adapt and work a lot harder for his numbers this year.

Look at how Ozil struggled last year to hit the heights, he ticked along but that is not enough for Di Maria when there is so much choice at 9m.

                Perhaps but;

                1. Man United won't keep as many CS's as Madrid did.

                2. I was very generous with bonus points, look at the other "assist heavy" midfielders and how often they get BP's.

                3. Even 180 points isn't worth 9.5M

Yeh but he only made 27 league appearances in which he got those 4 goals and 17 assists.

Extrapolate to 36 games (he missed the first 2) and you get more like 6 goals and 23 assists. That's an extra 28 points.

27 starts is acutally quite a lot. wingers usually miss 4-5 through injury at least, add some rests in there(late subs)

yeah, adds an unnecessary luck part to the game (like it didn't involve enough luck the way it was)

          This.

It's a calculated move now as to who gets the armband and that's what separates the sheep from the pros. Not like last season where every man and his dog had Suarez(c).

That's the 'skill' part of the game. Nailing your captain choice when there's no obvious choice.

This. Analyzing the stats and picking the right choice among loads of options is 'skill'.

      3. The Machine
        • 12 Years
        11 years, 4 months ago

not really. the skill part of the game is having the correct players. a bad captaincy choice can ruin your whole gamweek no matter how many "correct" picks you have in the rest of your squad

        1. pundit of punts
          • 12 Years
          11 years, 4 months ago

Correct players+Correct captain choice among loads of options= Both 'skills'.

If you fail with your captain choice for more than 3 gws then you're just not good at this game. Simple.

Excited for this week. So many potential differentials.

Happy with my side, just striker choice and who the armband goes on.

I had Costa - Falcao - Naismith but I can't risk having two big hitters not start so have swapped Falcao with Aguero for this week. I know they have arsenal away but he can score against anyone. Current first XI

    Begovic

    Moreno - Azpi - Clyne

    Stirling - Fab - Siggy - ADM

    Costa - Aguero - Naismith

    Who to skipper.....

    Improvements/Thoughts?

    Begovic, Krul
    Clyne, Ivan, Rojo, Moreno
    Sterling, Fab, Sigs, Mata, Hendo
    Naismith, Costa, Welbeck

    1. Flipping the coin on Rojo, only in 1% of teams
    2. Keeping Hendo for Pool's easy run the next couple of weeks then will possibly downgrade to Zaha which will give $$$ for elsewhere
